Eh, but that's the problem... Venom is a popular character, that's why his movie is making good money. All these other characters, on the other hand? No one is asking for a Kraven or a Morbius movie and I suspect not many people would show up to watch it.

I do think Silk has some potential, though... potential that I doubt Arad and Pascal will be able to exploit, but still.

Nobody was asking for a venom movie without spidey, still making $.

Venom's success doesn't mean Holland's Spidey is out. We have many options on how this will all go. We'll sort of have to wait and see.

That is true. Hell, ASM2 made $709 million coupled with bad reviews and that was the trigger to get Spidey in the MCU.

Venom probably won't be any different.

Once we get the F4 and X-men back the spider-man rights are gonna be the only thing left to discuss in this thread lol should be renamed to

No, there's still Universal Hulk and Namor rights. And the title as it is is broad enough to refer to Spider-Man.

Hulk is already like 95% home minus distribution and Namor is honestly rather insignificant at this point. Namor would be a nice to have but is not required. And regarding the thread title I was joking for the most part...... :funny:

Maybe we'll get a Maximum Carnage SONY Crossover event with Venom, Carnage, Jackpot, Morbius and Silver & Black.

I wouldn't be surprised if that was their end game. With the hope of spider-man popping in at some point.

We still need Lauren Shuler Donner and Constantin to give up the rights.

At the time this thread started (2013) I never would have imagined Spider-man would ever be close to being in a situation as bad as FF. We hadn’t seen ASM2 yet, and ASM seemed like a promising reboot - giving us a fun-loving Spider-man that was missing from the Raimi films.

But then ASM2, was perplexingly bad, and Venom, besides being a bad idea to start a potentially terrible series of films, is undisputedly the worst-reviewed film in the history of Spider-man films, and now the Spider-man franchise seems to be as far off the rails as FF seemed in 2014.

I’m much more an FF fan than a Spider-man fan, but it’s still depressing to see Marvel’s most popular character headed down a potentially very ugly path.

its a ****ty situation all round. Accepting this current deal was a bad idea on Marvel's part IMO. Sony basically leeching of Marvel's success while they get to retain the full rights. While this deal is a win for Sony and a honestly a bit of a lose/lose for marvel. Its too risky to make Spider-Man the new face of the MCU which is what I bet they want to do but cant given the risk that Sony could pull out once the deal expires.

Again, Sony already gave the golden goose to Marvel in 2015 with the merch rights.

Marvel gets creative control of Spidey in the MCU which serves their story and their merchandising profits. I don't know how I'd classify that as a lose/lose unless you think the only win is to have Marvel get everything completely.

Marvel doesn't have full creative control tho Sony still has that. They must consult Sony on everything they do with Spider-Man. There was an idea going around a while ago that Feige had Spider-Man dusted by Thanos and Amy Pascal didn't know. lol. That just cant happen. But it also works both ways. Sony must consult Marvel on everything when their in the MCU sand box. (So I still dont know how they screwed up the timeline in homecoming) They even approached Marvel about Venom being in the MCU but Marvel declined.

Marvel has creative control but Sony has final say, which obviously doesn't mean they will say no to a bunch of things, although I understand it's tempting to assume they will.

Marvel obviously doesn't want Venom in the MCU yet because they are working on their timetable, not Sony's. That should give us an idea that they aren't in this deal to appease Sony, but to serve themselves as much as Sony is being served with the association.

Marvel already had merch control before they struck the deal with Sony. If they had had control of Spidey merch there is an pretty good chance they would have went ahead with ASM3 and we never would have gotten Spidey in the MCU.

They had control but figure in their hands Spidey related movie merch is much more valuable then it would be if Sony were making these movies.

You must be joking? In 2013 if we told you that spiderman would appear in 4 marvel films you'd have been upset?

They claim to love cap but I don't know why they would want him dead. Everyone wants Cap gone, I hope marvel disappoints them.

I need him to appear dead, just so we can see if that Banner trying to off himself was canon...
I remember in it, Cap was outside the Valkyrie bird... in Cap he was inside when found....
One of those is a Skrull, obviously

I don't even know if that deleted scene was even canon. Especially after TFA and Avengers.

Since this thread is about the rights, I was talking about the rights and the fact that Sony now seems to be becoming as poor a steward of those rights as Fox was regarding FF in 2013 - making crap films instead of the good films they had made prior to 2013.

Fair enough. Can't argue.
