He's a mantle just like James Bond is. :o
Noone would have thought Sean Connery could be replaced but I bet many of those people now enjoy ranking their top Bond actors and eras. There are areas where no one will match Connery but different Bonds have brought different strengths. And I think the imagined recast usually feels like it will be worse than it actually is when it happens.

I meant Steve Rogers is a code name just like James Bond. :oldrazz: j/k

Which is one of the stupidest ideas. So if this james bond dies we just get a new guy. Means there isn't anything special about this james bond he's just one in a long line. We don't know his history. He's just a bloke.

Looks like we're going to get another Transformers case. Can't say I'm happy.

Let’s see how much legs this thing has before we start to panic.

I think this may have more staying power than people think. For me personally, I thought it was a dumb movie that managed to be entertaining despite its flaws. Audience I saw it with seemed to love it, and the current RT audience score is 88%. By the time something like TLJ had nearly 9,000 user ratings, it was much lower. I think the general public is going to like the movie more than critics or comic fans in general.

For every Sean Connery there’s a George Lazenby. If they recast Steve Rogers there’s no guarantee that it will work out, and to be frank I still think Terrance Howard is a better Rhodey than Don Cheadle. If the new Steve Rogers doesn’t turn out great or accepted by the fans, what will Kevin Feige do?

Evans is 37, plenty of time for him to come back. It's not like he has said he is not coming back. His contract is up that's all. Let him have a break and do some other stuff then a few years down the role see if he wants to come back again. It's unlikely he'll make as much money in a different role unless he hits it big on another franchise. But there aren't any as big as marvel now.

Deadline is reporting that Venom has exceeded Thursday night projections with $10 million.

That would mean if there isn't a huge drop off the rest of the weekend then it would gross close to the higher end of the projections which would be near 70 million. If that happens Venom will be fairly profitable and more uncertainty regarding Spider-Man in the MCU.

‘Venom’ Springs To Best October Preview Of All-Time With $10M, ‘A Star Is Born’ Croons $4.6M – Thursday Box Office

Bah. I botched my response. It somehow got stuck in the middle of the quote. It's the second paragraph. Short version: It's doing slightly less well than Ant-Man and the Wasp which = respectable profitability and more uncertainty regarding Spider-Man in the MCU.

The other problem, which didn't effect the various Bonds or Batmen, is that Evans is part of ongoing inter-connected cinematic universe. If you cringed the first time RDJ called Don Cheadle Rhodey - And I did! - get ready for never ending full body convulsions after Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan say "We're with you, Cap!" to KJ Apa.

In regards to what Venom's success means for the MCU (should it not have some type of crazy drops or something like that), I am wondering if Sony won't try to negotiate a Tom Holland appearance(s) in their movies as a condition for renewal.

Double Toasted reviewed Venom. They all gave it "Some Old Bull****!"

Two of them were going to give it a very low rental, but certain things happened that pushed it over the edge in the end.

Doubt they will get it. Marvel wouldn't want their character appearing in a film they don't control. They also wont want films they don't control linked to the mcu. The mcu is the biggest brand in film these days they will not let anything jeapordise that.

I am not speculating whether Sony will get that or not. I think the MCU could always exist without Spider-Man. I'm just wondering if this is something they will push for. Maybe that was Sony's long term game plan all along? Let Marvel redeem Spidey, associate him with the MCU and give Marvel a taste of using him, and then come time to renegotiate, weasel their way into a loose MCU association and force Holland into their films after he was associated with the MCU. I definitely think they will try and make that happen. This whole situation is unique and odd, and I can see this all going like 1000 different ways.

Exactly. Similar to Hemsworth. Even RDJ makes bank in other leading roles, but not on the level he can as Stark, so any negotiations aren't totally one-sided. The more doors left open for the future the better IMO. But I will concede that Avengers 4 IS the time to kill a major character or two if they believe they need to. Finally the bloodlust of many posters can be temporarily sated. :funny:

Some fans have been trying to kill Cap since AoU, LOL!!! Their lust for blood shall never die :csad:

Imagine if Marvel had listened. We'd now have a skeleton crew for Avengers 4 with multiple characters dead in AoU, CW and IW.

My guess is Tom Rothman is going to play hardball, figuring that they have a decent landing spot for Spidey if Marvel Studios doesn't extend the deal. Tom Holland appearances, cameos and references to other MCU characters and a % of the MCU grosses for films in which Spidey appears will all be Sony demands. Iger, Horn and Feige will remind Mr. Rothman that they have thousands of popular characters coming home in a few months and they can either extend the deal under the existing terms or shake hands and call it a day.

One potential problem with the Venomverse is Mr. Hardy's involvement. His casting was considered a huge "get" for the Rothman/Pascal/Arad dream team when he signed, and it's doubtful he signed a six movie MCU-style deal. He certainly was under no pressure to do so. After the dreadful reviews for this one, will Hardy be willing to come back for the sequel? Even if the weekend holds for this one, the franchise is still quite vulnerable due to the poor reviews and the possibility of having to recast the lead.

I think Hardy confirmed he signed a 3 movie deal. So he has 2 sequels/appearances under contract.

Some fans have been trying to kill Cap since before the opening Marvel logo of The First Avenger!

What's this obsession with wanting him to die?

And giving the shield to bucky or falcon. They'll still be bucky and falcon, just now have a shield. It's not going to suddenly make them better characters.

The Avengers 4 title reveal is coming much sooner than I thought. I was thinking end of October early November the train doesnt stop.
