Yup I would have been concerned had it been delayed that would have been an indication they were going to trial but in this case it seems like Disney caved. And figured its not worth dragging it out. Especially while peoples jobs are at stake.
Precisely. From the article:

Disney Chief Executive Officer Bob Iger failed to get a better deal after flying to Brazil to meet the antitrust board. As a result, the companies decided hanging on to the sports channels wasn’t worth jeopardizing the takeover, said two of the people.

I think this was Disney's strength in getting this deal done. This is why AT&T ended up getting delayed for 2 years, because they weren't willing to make the neccessary divestitures to ensure approval.

Looks like we'll be able to close this chapter in the book very soon and focus on Marvel development of these properties

Hope Iger does an in-depth interview with CNBC on the day the deal closes and reveals some more of his plans for Fox.

Is there anyone else now after Brazil and Mexico? Or are they the last 2 hurdles?

What about Constantin films? Will they prove to be a major roadblock? :o

The X-Men and F4 will be home soon. Spider-Man is next

I want to also see Hulk and Namor. All the Universal stuff. It's not just those two characters but everything else tied up with them. I'd like to see She-Hulk, but if she's in the same boat as Hulk when it comes to solos, then she'll never get her spotlight.

I mean, Hulk and Namor are still technically owned by Marvel. Spider-Man is on lease from Sony

It will be interesting to see how marvel handles the x-men and f4 introduction when they aren't forced to get a movie out by a certain time. And can go at their own pace.

Can anyone crunch the numbers for us on much Disney stands to probably make on divestitures of Sky and Fox Sports etc so we can compare to the initial $71 billion winning bid.

Seems like they’ll make at least a third of it back, right?

What a great day everyone. After following this thread since like 2010 or 2011 (I think), we are so close!

I wish Inhumans would have been good in the first place. Even if it was a show, if it was a good show, I would have been happy. But I am glad the show as it exists right now bombed.
Yeah, as soon as Scott Buck was attached the whole thing went down the pan. Why would you reemploy the only guy to make a bad first season of any of the shows after they started so well. That Netflix universe really could have been something if the shows had carried on with the quality they started with. Defenders could have been a major streaming event - the Avengers of streaming. I was really hoping for a lot more.

Really hope they work out a new deal. Imagine if Spider-Man left the MCU just as the other franchises were coming home. That would suck.

There is this silent rumor that Apple bought Sony . That’s why your not hearing to much from Sony about venom and it’s “Sony marvel universe”. They are probably about to lose the character. They’ve been quiet lately. They use announce dumb movies left and right.

That tin-foil hat is a great fit on you!

That would explain they being so quiet lately.

That just means they already have people who want to buy the assets they're divesting. So they should be easy to sell.

Ahhh... I read it too quickly and thought the assets they were talking about was the company itself (so basically another Comcast situation), and I was like "Say whaaaat?" :funny:

Part of the problem with the Inhumans is. . . even with the best of efforts? They are a problematic property. The TV show may have made everything much much worse, but it didn't create the problems from scratch: at heart, Attilan is authoritarian caste system built around eugenics and a long history of slavery. Usually, Black Bolt and his inner circle are trying to reform it, but. . . that is still where they come from.

I think it's good for the deal - it means they'll sell them easily because there are other companies ready to buy.

Definitely good for the deal. It'll help with getting it done easier, and alleviate concerns of Disney getting too monopolistic. I know they're still being conservative with a June estimate, but if we have impending approvals from countries as bullish as Brazil and Mexico, I think the other markets should approve in short order.

By the way, Willie, I also wanted to say thanks for getting back to me on the PM and sharing your much appreciated insights.

Spider-Man needs to come home. The only thing that worries me is Disney not continuing with the Spider-Verse movies but I don't think Marvel would throw away all that money

I could live without any more spider-verse movies if it meant spider-man back under Marvel Studios permanently. I wouldn't trust Loeb with the spider-verse anyway.

It would be a shame. Spider-Verse is easily one of the best Spider-Man movies ever made. I'd hope Loeb wouldn't get his hands on it. Surely Horn would have a place for Spider-Verse like Iger had a place for Deadpool

in a perfect world they would work out something where Sony can keep making spiderverse movies but marvel gets the film rights permanently.
