So it's okay to give this man all this money to direct/write a movie to fund his pedophiliac fantasies all because we want a sequel?

We might as well let Bryan Singer come back and do MCU X-Men while we're at it.

I'm just not with it guys, I don't care how you justify it. But that's just me.

Meh. Having been lukewarm on Guardians 2 I was actually looking forward to Guardians getting some fresh blood and would've been open to another director bringing a new take to the franchise.

I feel like Gunn was treated unfairly by Disney admittedly. I'm glad he gets to come back and finish what he started. I just hope he does justice to the new characters should he include them.

It would have been nice to see a fresh vision too

:funny:

Damn.

Maybe part of the plan was to see if any other studios would hire him? WB hiring him for basically their version of the characters probably made him more desirable. Disney still ****ed up tho now hes contractually obligated to complete suicide squad before he can start Guardians. Unless Disney and their legal team figure a way out.

I doubt many directors would want to take it on considering the situation and how beloved Gunn's films have become. Their work would be scrutinized to a much greater degree (fairly or unfairly) and they know it. This was Gunn's to finish.

The arrival of the Fox properties and some time away might just be what James himself needs to reinvigorate the franchise.

Also this probably means James Gunn will be the 1st person to introduce some of the Fox properties. Wonder if they will rewrite the script to account for the F4 now being back.

Unlikely. Gunn is still working on Suicide Squad(unless he somehow leaves the project to start production on GOTG Vol. 3) later this year.

The deal will already been long closed by the time Black Widow and Eternals begin principal photography so any director on those 2020 Marvel movies will have access to the Fox properties by that point.

Happy to have Gunn back, myself. There is a difference between jokes and action. Gunn's firing was unfair. Singer is getting what he deserves because he has allegations of actual wrong doing. But, that's all I will say on that matter. Super pumped for GotG3 now!!! I was dreading it but now I am happy

So I guess the GotG3 stinger is gonna have them knocking a spaceship out of a cosmic ray, and it crashes into Earth and then BOOM, there's the 4.

I understand why Disney felt they had to do it given the strong negative reaction at the time and the way these witch hunts were getting out of control, especially when they were at a crucial time for the Fox acquisition. But yes, it was unfair. There is a big difference between a few jokes and a list of actual criminal accusations a mile long like Singer has. Who knows, maybe Disney always planned on bringing him back once the Fox approval became certain and the outrage from the Twittersphere died down. It would explain why they never made any progress on GOTG3 the last few months if they were just waiting for the right time.

Rehiring James Gunn may not exactly be like rehiring Bryan Singer back on a project after he was fired but I still feel Gunn should've remained fired and moved on to new things like Suicide Squad. Currently, it looks like he's still doing Suicide Squad but I have a sneaking suspicion he'll leave the project as far as directing duties are concerned to work on Guardians and Warners will just use his script with another director.

If I were him I'd bask in the glow of this 'controversy' resulting in two big projects he's writing and directing as opposed to just one.

I don't want to make it a race thing, but since we're living in the "woke" era, let me just be real and tell you guys that this is a textbook example of white privilege. If you act like you didn't know what it was before, James Gunn getting rehired by Disney is a prime example. Powerful white man has a scandal, powerful white man gets a slap on the wrist and his job back.

Let's just say if this was Ryan Coogler who made these tweets about urinating on little kids and doing all that nasty stuff, you can bet your ass they'd never rehire him. Quentin Tarantino probably would've been directing Black Panther 2.

I'll give Disney one thing, they know how to keep us talking. Never a dull moment in the MCU.

Disney almost definitely fired him to avoid bad pr before the completion of the merger and with no negative reactions from the general public over his hiring to direct SS2 and the negative reception they feared would result in the loss of a majorly profitable franchise they were better off getting him back. He definitely said dumb things and I can understand his initial firing as well as understanding from a business viewpoint the logistical reasoning for his rehire. He didn’t hurt anyone and certainly made some bad jokes but I don’t think anyone truly believes he believes in what he said and he did deliver a sincere apology. However if he doesn’t include Silver Surfer in GotG 3 than I hope he is jailed for life!

As Tom MacDonald would say, "Saying you're 'woke' doesn't make you a prophet...." I won't post the rest and derail the thread with more political BS.

Needless to say, comparing Gunn to the people you have is ridiculous.
