The Rebooted "Keep Hope Alive" (that the rights can revert back to Marvel) Thread - Part 7

Read my post again, I said FF characters being off limits: That memo to trading card artists specifically stated no use of the FF and related characters, not the X-Men.

Some X-Men stuff has been cancelled (the diorama thing), and they have been removed from some merch with art that originally included them, but they are still big enough names for Marvel to use them in other media (in their comic form, not any movie based variant) and to make new toys: There's a new line of X-Men toys coming out this year from Hasbro.

The same cannot be said for the Fantastic Four. You can still find old stuff online, but anything new?

More fuel to the FF merch fire:

The Watcher was on the list in that memo btw.

Bottom line: X-Men merch and games based on the comic versions is still being made, but still nothing based on the movie versions. Fantastic Four merch of any kind it seems remains 'off limits'.
The Marvel Legends Hasbro is making are new.

For X-Men.....I already stated that in the post you quoted....

Is there anything new for the Fantastic Four?
Yes, they revealed Fantastic Four Marvel Legends last July that are in the works.

Just had a search and all I've found is something for Herbie and the Invisible Woman. Is that it?

Hasbro does these waves by theme. Be it Avengers, X-Men, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, etc. The theme for that wave will be Fantastic Four.

I can't find anything on Fantastic Four either. I'm finding a lot on X-Men, but nothing for Fantastic Four.

I'm going to look for a countdown to post, just to p**$$ a certain someone off :p

 I don't care about pissing anybody off. I just want to count down the days. I'm using D23 (or Comic Con on even years) as the point to mark off the years. If we don't get any announcements regarding FF from any studios by D23, that's two years since Fant4stic and that much closer to the reversion date.

This year's D23 will basically take us to 1/3rd of the way to the point Fox will have to either s*** or get off the pot (by my estimation, they have to be in full production within 7 years of the last film, so that means they'll have to be hiring a director, getting a script etc. within about 6 years of 2015). That makes 2018 the half-way point. :woot:

Tick Tock.

That's all we've ever done really. Hope we get something, and if we don't, we keep on hoping. Something has to happen eventually.

 I think realizing we're already into 2017 helps illustrate just how short Fox's window is.

Like I mentioned, by 2018 Comic Con, we'll hit the half-way point. I haven't forgotten how awful Fant4stic was, and I think by 2021, that mess will still be very fresh in people's minds. Fox may think that by 2021, the old film will seem like ancient history, but I think the depths of their screw-up was so bad, it won't easily be forgotten in the short window they have to start ramping up for the next film.

I don't think that we'll hear anything about Hulk or FF this year at D23. Marvel won't get the Hulk solo film rights back until next year if I'm right about a ten-year timer.

The Fantastic Four right won't revert until 2020 at the earliest and 2022 at the latest, assuming that Fox don't decide to do an even cheaper film and release it direct to video. I don't think that Fox would do that since it would jeopardize the partnership built around Legion.

I doubt very much a DTV film would be allowed under the existing cinematic licensing agreement.

I'd guess at least another 2 years before there might be confirmation of a reversion, even if there is already an agreement in principle.

Judging by Fant4stic, there's no such thing as too small a window for Fox.

Their executives probably practise climbing through this every day:

Should we put all of you guys on suicide watch if the worst happens & FOX announces another reboot or worse a sequel ?

If that happens, you should be more worried about Fox executives than us. I can imagine fans, and more importantly shareholders tearing apart the internet if something like that happens.

I think some of us (myself included) have a small part of our psyche hoping they'll be that stupid just so we can watch them burn. :cwink:

If the news leaked that FOX was even exploring the possibility of producing "Fant4sti2: Blood Wars" the company stock would drop and Mr. Murdoch's baby would spend an extended period as the laughing stock of the internets.

We'll get word from FOX about "Independence Day - Onslaught" and "Assasin's Creed - Unhooded" long before we hear the latest on "Fant4sti2 - Chipwrecked".

Amen. On all of it.
Even in the worst case scenario at least the LOLs would be epic.

Yes, definitely. If Fox is determined to f### the FF over for a fourth time, I'll be happy to root for it to be an even bigger flaming cesspool of suck than Fant4stic was. I will cheerfully watch the disaster unfold while petting my cat like Dr. Evil and getting mellow on medical chronic. Rupert and sons will piss millions more down that rathole and I hope that the loss of every penny brings the bros closer to throttling each other. It couldn't happen to a nicer family.

Ah, schadenfreude! Sometimes, it's enough.

Okay, after some more searching, I found this, which I assume is the same thing Wobbly found, but this is the only thing I can find:

So they're putting out a H.E.R.B.I.E. figure. Woo. Hoo. This clearly shows that Marvel is doing a major licensing push for the FF. Using an obscure character related to a long-defunct cartoon show is all the assurance we need that FF isn't being neglected. :o

Just seeing that one executive even suggest making a sequel in the FOX boardroom would be worth the price of admission alone.
