The Rebooted "Keep Hope Alive" (that the rights can revert back to Marvel) Thread - Part 8

I would want this type of Reed Richards this time round rather than the Ioan Gruffed or Miles Teller types.

Although Ioan is now much better suited to playing Reed than he was back in the FF films. When he was in the TV series Forever a couple of years ago, he constantly gave off a Reed Richards vibe and seemed far more intelligent and also more sure of himself. He was very charming and more able to handle himself too. Age has definitely helped, but also I think his Reed just wasn't written well. If he hadn't already been cast before, I would definitely consider him for the role.

Picture Hamm in a scene with RDJ and whether or not he'd be overshadowed by RDJ's screen presence. If he is, he's not your guy.

I've never considered RDJ to have a particularly imposing screen presence. He's fun, but doesn't have a lot of weight. If anything, I think Hamm might make him seem like a clown.

Since we're talking about Reed Richards potentially great casting I really think Timothy Olyphant is idea he can be corny yet confident... intelligent yet bad ass...etc.

And he has the right look for Reed. Almost identical to the Kirby run.

OK. The point I was trying to make is that Reed (and the actor who plays him) should be at a Stark level in the MCU (even beyond) when he's in the room. The gravitational pull so to speak. I like Hamm, but having only seen him in Mad Men, I envision someone with a little more charisma.

Got the look for sure, but I've only seen him in Justified. Great actor. He was actually my pick for Hawkeye back in the day.

Couldn't see Jamie Bell as a former football player and gang member either. Oh wait... :o

I'd like Blake Lively for Sue. She has a real warmth to her and a charisma. I loved watching her in The Age of Adaline and The Shallows.

Jon Hamm wouldn't be bad. I think he'd need a slightly different hairstyle though. His hairstyle might suit Mad Men, but it isn't really a Reed hairstyle, which is more tighter curls than straight and slicked back.

They could do a team up movie with the Avengers and she could be completely invisible to Black Widow.

I did like her in Age of Adaline.

Watch him in his new show on Netflix with Drew Barrymore Santa Clarita Diet. He plays, like, a campy dad that has a very exaggerated version of Reed.

Plus I want someone who can play comedy and drama and action all well and he definitely can.

Well he definitely has the look. I remember seeing him in Hitman, and he didn't seem particularly compelling as a lead back then though. I don't know if that's a judge of his ability however, because there aren't many films based on video games that are very good.

She was fantastic in the Shallows. She's also very bubbly and fun and likeable, and has that maternal quality for Sue. Definitely more maternal than Alice Eve seems, who can feel a bit cold at times.

If they decided to go with a somewhat younger Reed, I'd like to see Joseph Gordon-Levitt or even Jay Baruchel

Ok, I watched an interview clip with Timothy Olyphant to remind myself what he's like, and while in that photo above he looks like Reed, I don't find him actually that much like him when you watch him on film. And his personality seems wrong for Reed. He seems more like an alternate version of Sam Rockwell and doesn't sound super intelligent when he speaks.

I would rather have someone with more of a commanding presence and gravitas, and who just sounds immediately super intelligent when he speaks.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll check out Santa Clarita Diet.

Dude the thought never crossed my mind but wow! He does have the look! :wow:

This thread was originally created in the FF forum and the title referred specifically to the FF rights. It previously won thread of the year.

The Fant4stic defenders tried to shut this thread down, and for a while it was closed, but then it sprung back to life in defiance. Since the FF forum was closed after the rousing success of Fant4stic, this was the only thread that survived and was moved into the general Marvel section. So it had the last laugh.

Technically, I think all the FF forum threads are on this board now. This is just the only thread to remain active.

Find an actor who is 19 who fits the role. He'll by 37 by the time Marvel makes the movie

A better question is if you hate the F4 so much, then why do you post here?

The FF situation directly impacts X-MEN. And I've always said FF should go-to Disney so im not going against the hive mentality anyways. I've seen every Mar el movie on Wednesday/Thursday night showing so I should be able to talk MCU.

A better question is if he's been here for over a year and has over 2,000 posts, why doesn't he have a 100x100 avatar yet?

Because I post on mobile and don't see avatars anyways. Not a big deal to me. Ill change it just for you

I'd argue it's more the other way around: If Fox didn't have the X-Men do you think they'd have held on so closely to the ever diminishing returns of the FF? Seriously, say the FF was the only horse on their stable. They'd have sent it to the glue factory by now.

But nope, they have been chasing the idea of an FF/X-Men crossover since 2009, when Mark Millar first stated that as an intention soon after the FF reboot was announced, even though they cant legally do one (Millar soon back-tracked on that score, as did Kinberg when he suggested the same idea later on).

Fortunately FFINO tanking leaves little chance of them pursuing that notion in anything like the near future.

And beyond the films the FF has seen their book cancelled. X-Men are still alive and well in numerous titles, and you are even getting a TV series spin-off too.

Bottom line, I think its a myth to beleive any any bad blood over the FF is having any effect on the X-Men. Take the FF away from Fox the situation would have been just the same. Post Disney buyout there would still have been no games, no animation etc.

Stop blaming the FF for that.

If that's the case I hope FoX reboots FF every 7 years until the end of time so it doesn't revert.

Seriously? Because you aint getting what you want from the X-Men due to Fox having them, even though the FF makes NO difference to that situation either way, you want Fox to keep them regardless.

What a spiteful attitude.

Yep. It's beyond spiteful. It's just plain dumb. How will that help anybody?

If Fox continues to just be d***s for the sake of being d***s, it will justify any ill-feelings Marvel may already have and ensure they never have a positive, productive working relationship.
