The Rebooted "Keep Hope Alive" (that the rights can revert back to Marvel) Thread - Part 8

Well Zendaya may or may not turn out to be MJ, whose initials might not even stand for Mary Jane but Michelle something else (Johnson?). And her character is nothing like classic MJ's at all: she's a socially awkward bookworm who dresses in frumpy dresses. And even if she becomes the "MJ" we all supposedly know by the end of the movie, having gone through a transformation, that is the wrong character arc for her completely.

And MJ is certainly what you would call iconic. Now she may not turn out to be MJ, but she could very well still, and it would fit in with all the unnecessary changes they've made to all the characters. Having her classic character almost seems now that it wouldn't fit in with their pattern. And why cast Zendaya in the role, who is normally known for her looks, if they're going to go so deliberately out of their way to dress her down and make her seem very plain? It feels like they will make her look like she normally looks by the end of the movie.

And that is about as bad as anything from FFINO.

Take the Spidey talk to its forums folks.

Posted at the same time as you so didn't see your post.

Betty, Liz, Flash, Michelle(MJ) and NedGanke are the main HS supporting characters in this movie, Bored guy. Ned Leeds is literally Ganke: Miles Morales' best friend. If Zendaya turns out to be MJ (which fits with the Breakfast Club theme) they won't be able to just ditch her for a sequel. She'll have to carry over.

But yeah, Marcvader is right, better off discussing in the Homecoming forums

Back on topic:
So, When Fiege said phase 4 would "blow our minds", I have to admit that this old fogey of a fanboy said "yeah, right."

Only one thing would blow my mind for phase 4. If during that announcement for the slate, at the very beginning, as phase 4 appears on the screen, the number gets a circle, then morphs into a certain letter inside that circle. Only that would blow my mind. Mainly, as I do NOT see any chance of Fox letting go of either, short of some miracle.

Still, I'd love to suffer a heart-attack being proven wrong about Fox not being nice and letting things go home.

I think that even if Marvel Studios got the rights back they'd probably sit on it till it was time to refresh the MCU ranks the way they are starting to do with BP, Strange, Spidey and Captain Marvel. I would see them dipping in to F4 lore though before hand, maybe using some villains, aliens, or locations.

Not at the expense of the well known characters & especially the ones that play an important part in Peters life down the line. This Flash they have here will never be taken seriously as Venom / Agent Venom the overall side cast just sucks & it feels like they started with the idea of making original characters but realized down the line they wanted the characters people knew but it was to late

What they do to Flash?

Which technically does prove the idea that MARVEL is bad with side characters

????

People's "opinions" (even if somewhat widespread; which may not be the case here) don't "prove" anything other than some people have an opinion.

Personally, MY opinion is that people are WAY too nitpicky with regard to how the movie looks, side characters, villains, moan....moan....moan. The last time I checked, most movies aren't perfect and faulting a very good movie because the color wasn't to exacting standards says more about the person than it does the movie.

Most movies that suck, however, suck for a multitude of reasons.

On one hand, it would be cool to have Silver Surfer and Galactus in Infinity Wars.

On the other hand, with that presumably epic story-line finishing off Phase 3, it would be nice to have Galactus, Surfer and Doom waiting in the wings to give them something big and new for Phase 4 (rush Surfer and Galactus to squeeze them into the story).

With that in mind, if it were my call and I had the rights, I might hint at the existence of Galactus and maybe show a young Reed Richards and Victor Von Doom in Infinity Wars, but hold them off until Phase 4 before really getting into them.

If Marvel did get the rights back to FF, they've already lost out on the most perfect casting for one of the characters. They already used Stan Lee as Willie Lumpkin in the first Story FF. Would Marvel use him again? Or would they prefer to cast someone else in the role simply for the sake of being different and to distinguish him from that movie?

Maybe he'd now be a young Hispanic tech guy who simply sits in a room sending out the mail electronically. Or maybe the role will be played by a hot female who delivers these while doing double duty as a strippergram, which would make the name Willie Lumpkin sound like her porn name.

Why wouldn't they want to use Stan Lee again? He's appeared in all the MCU films, they could use him again.

In light of recent news. Could Marvel finally have FF back and is now moving forward with Namor with Sue as love interest?

Maybe it could be a way to introduce FF in the MCU.

I doubt it, but at least it gives us something to think about/discuss

It doesn't take much to do that.

The Marvel 101 video, the fact that Marvel advertised Legion despite it being within the X-Men universe- even if some speculated that it was part of the MCU- the smallest theory can lead to, I suppose, page or two worth of discussion.

Ignoring it's co-produced by Marvel I see, a fact pointed out in the speculation covering the 101 list.

And who said it was part of the MCU?

I said speculated, not said. And more than one writer or two got the idea:

Heroic Hollywood-

Yet a new article on Marvel.com breaks down all of the upcoming heroes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe seen at SDCC and Legion is among them. Does this mean the show will take place in the MCU? If so, mutants are now available to Marvel as the word ‘mutant’ is said during the trailer.

Screenrant-

The world is not exactly clamoring for another Fantastic Four – at least not anytime soon – but with Marvel and Sony bringing Spider-Man: Homecoming into the fold, Fox could use Legion as a relatively low-risk way to hook into the immensely popular MCU, especially if it takes place in a supposedly parallel universe.

Just for starters.

It wandered into a Spider-Man discussion yesterday though.

I meant here, seeing as in the same sentence you stated the 101 videos were leading to a page a or 2 of discussion here. Note those sources you found make no mention of the 101.

Now I can't be bothered to check over every post here commenting on the 101 stuff to see what was said, but of those I have read I have not seen any thoughts that Legion might be in the MCU.

It has however been noted a few times that the Legion show is a co-production with Marvel, which would explain why he has gotten the nod for a slot on that list over the vast multitude of other Mutants.

Yup, they'd find a spot for Stan, especially for the FF.

Not saying they wouldn't have a Stan Lee cameo. I was questioning whether they'd use him again as Willie Lumpkin since that's been done before even though it would be great casting.

Not to be an alarmist or anything, but "fixable in a sequel" was the mantra of the Fant4stic defenders. :cwink:

But, despite some general concerns, there's just about zero chance Homecoming will be as bad as Fant4stic.

Spider-man fans need only imagine for 30 seconds what it's like to be a Fantastic Four fan to know how good they've got it.

I'm not too worried about Spider-Man right now. The character was already reset in Civil War, and a lot of people already like this version of the character. I like this version so far. Now parts of Homecoming might not work, but I like most of what I've seen so far.

I don't think we have a Fant4stic situation.

Fox's dirty grip on the FF rights is an abomination, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe will never feel like the Marvel Comic Universe without Galactus, Dr. Doom, Kang, Silver Surfer, Reed Richards, Annihilus and the Negative Zone etc. etc. etc.

So the FF and related characters joining the MCU would be the biggest story since Disney bought Marvel and any slight hint or suggestion that that might be closer to happening will generate discussion here and across the internet.

Think about how much discussion was dedicated to organic web-shooters vs mechanical web-shooters and then compare the significance of that detail to the significance of having Galactus, Doom etc. in the MCU.

They should do a typical cameo with him hanging out doing something stupid while some huge battle is going on.

... then have an after credit scene of him walking with unusually black sky behind him. As he walks, he morphs into a huge bald man wearing a toga, and as the camera pans around, we can see a lunar landscape.

I always pictured Stan Lee being revealed as the One Above All. Watching over the entire Marvel cinematic universe and multiverses.

he is the Creator
but Marvel barely ever mentions the one above all
Watcher would be a more fun role
