The Dark Knight Rises The TDKR Batsuit Discussion Thread

If there's one thing the Nolan brothers really succeed at with their Batman stories, it's adapting themes and bigger ideas from the comics. They may not be verbatim, but they translate well. For example, the idea of Joker's influence on Harvey up to and especially in the hospital scene is a great adaption of the idea from Killing Joke of the Joker taking one of Batman's allies and driving them mad to prove a point. This in mind, I can definitely see Nolan taking the overall theme from Knightfall of Bruce having to retrain himself to take on Bane again being adapted. At least I hope so.

I'd like to see them adapt Bruce's return from retirement in Dark Knight Returns, at the beginning(he wouldn't retire in the movie of course, but the scenes where he goes around the city, shrouded in shadow, and just goes hog wild on all kinds of criminals would be great to see) after Batman comes back from being beaten by Bane.

And then, I'd like to see them go the route of adapting the fights between Batman and the Mutant Leader. With the current Bruce and Bane in the place of the Mutant Leader.

Batman gets his ass handed to him the first round. He's put in a wheelchair(not with a broken back, but it's needed for recovery).

I've mentioned this elsewhere, but this would be a great place for Bruce to visit his parents' graves.

He's sitting there, in his wheelchair talking to them both. Trying to figure out if he was cut out for this kind of thing. If he's at all capable of keeping the promise he made to them.

Then Alfred walks up behind Bruce and places a hand on his shoulder, who then goes on to say something heartwarming(like his parents are definitely proud of him) and awesome and maybe even a little funny, which would give Bruce the confidence he needs to get out of the wheelchair and hobble back to the manor with Alfred, leaving the chair behind at his parents' graves.

Then they install a big high tech workout center in the cave and get Bruce back in top shape.

And then we go into the "Batman is back in action and tearing through the city like a title wave, making his way back to Bane" scene.

No? I can't conceive of the very end of Nolan's Batman trilogy occurring without Batman there to stand against the muddy darkness of Gotham's midnight skyline, as a totemic statement of justice in the face of iniquity.

He asked me if I want the final scene to be Batman-less, and I said no.

I was just saying that a suitless fight would be a good fight because the actor wouldn't be as restricted and slow looking. Doesn't have to be at the end, it could be anywhere. I'd just like to see it - and I'd also like to see it because it shows how vulnerable Bruce is to Bane, how Bane can figure him out and get at him when he least expects it.

I totally agree with this. Especially the bold.

I would get chills in the theater for sure.

Yeah. The suggestion I was making is that the suit makes it hard for the actor to move so the movements are really stiff looking and the choreography is slow. If he weren't hindered by the suit in a full-on rumble with Bane, it could be pretty sweet.

Would it not be cool for Bane to "break" Batman, then we see Bruce go through healing and rehab, then in his second encounter with Bane, He fights him without the suit, and totally kicks Bane's rear? Maybe just with a ninja style mask to cover his face, and the whole time, Bane is trying to take Bruce's mask off to reveal him to the world. Maybe even news crews show up, and start to broadcast it?

No, I got enough Batman in TDK.

There has been criticism, even from out of the comic community that there was a problem with a lack of Batman in TDK. That might not make for a bad movie, but it doesn't necessarily make a better Batman movie.

I kinda feel like that's the opposite of rewarding. He should be stripped down when he defeats Bane. It can't just be about getting new equipment. I myself admit that I'd like a new suit in the movie, but the whole point of Bruce coming back from a defeat at Bane's hands should be about him rebuilding his confidence and not relying on technology.

A roided out mountain of man being defeated by a "normal" man seems a little too David and Goliath fairytale-ish to me. I've thought since the beginning that Bane would be very similar to Bruce in his training and history, but better than Bruce in most mays. If theyre similar in size, a stripped down Batman defeating Bane would translate better.

I think Bane's size should be around the way he was originally depicted (without venom) where he's a big dude but not cartoonishly so.

Bane shouldn't just break his arm like it had been discussed here lately, a broken spine is the way to go. Literally and metaphorically.

It would actually be interesting to see Batman redeem himself early on in the film, only to be broken by Bane. Imagine when the city regains it's hope, it is crushed by Bane. Imagine here Bane is talking to Gordon and the GCPD, or doing a broadcast ala Joker.

That looks like an amalgam of the Arkham Asylum suit and the TDK suit. Andh the Long Halloween ears as others have mentioned... which I don't like.

no dialouge is needed... i hate when they have people talk to graves... just the act of being there is enough...

Yeah, I don't care for the ears either (or the flames). And the face of the cowl is way too relaxed looking or something. It doesn't evoke the moody, phantom-esque drama that I think Batman should visually.

The suit itself has TDK's issue of trying too hard to look high tech and detailed.

Earle's example is awesome, I'd like to see a realistic manip of it.
