From the way that it's described in terms of materials and weight...it almost sounds like even more of a "knight's armor"....maybe like...

...which I wouldn't mind in a movie, to tell the truth.

Nolan bearly even uses CG for flipping trucks in the middle of a chicago street or hospitals blowing up, you really think hes going to use it for a gorram mask?

Looking at some of the behind the scenes stuff, its incredible to see that quite a few things were actually CGI. Those ferries in the water were completely CGI. Its not that Nolan doesn't use it at all, he just uses it wisely and judging by the amount of people who don't realize what exactly is CGI he's done his job.

As for the cowl, if they had to CG anything they could CG the neck part and I don't think anyone would even notice and he would actually be able to turn his head.

I know Nolan does use CGI, he just doesnt use it so arbitrarily. practical solutions are not so far out of reach.

Well so far they havent been able to produce a cowl that can combine looks and practicality. They tried in Begins by giving him a thicker cowl that is solid on his head, allowing him to press against the neck and move his head a bit without deforming the whole cowl. That gave him limited mobility though.

Even if they find a material to make the perfect cowl, they still wont be able to make it look one with the cape. So just give him a cowl and a cape, and just CGI the neck to make them look like one piece. Hell, they could even CGI his cape during action scenes so that the stunt guy will be able to move around freely without being hindered by it.

And to show you how good CGI can be, Nolan was thinking of doing the Arkham staircase gliding scene in CGI but later opted to do it for real. I think its in the BB extras where they compare the two scenes and you cant tell which is real and which is not.

Also, dont use Green Lantern as an example. His suit is supposed to look flashy because its made from energy. If they wanted it to look like real fabric, they would have just created a fabric one.

Wasn't it the other way around? Nolan had to be convinced that a digital stunt double was a viable substitute for certain shots, so he had them recreate that landing in CGI. It was more of a test to see if he could rely on digital wizardry for the more complex scenes.

Yeah--they recreated the shot in CG after it was filmed practically.

I wonder how they chose to have him be able to turn his head without any rubber, but a suit made of leather, titanium, and chainmail.

I have a feeling WB's keeping their eye on Hammer for something since he would've been Batman and was up for the Superman reboot as well. I think he sounds a lot like a young Conroy.

What do you guys think of this?

I think this Batsuit has potential. It has a number of problems that prevent it from being fully viable for live action but it is easily fixed;

1. The 'actor' in this image is far too lanky.

2. The cowl needs slightly shorter, thicker bat-ears.

3. The grey needs to be darker, almost charcoal.

4. There needs to be an indication that there is armour underneath, no 'folds' in the material.

If these changes were made a lot more people would be into this kind of suit.

I think I might like that.

Brilliant work JAK

I'm hoping for something light-weight like this, to emphasise that Batman becomes a shadow this time around. Like he was a 'creature' in the first, and a 'knight' in the second, this time he's a living shadow. I don't mind a bit lankiness, Bale's physique can be bulk as well as very thin but in the end he manages to pull off Batman really well. As a thin, shadow-like entity, the suit itself can take a step towards the legendary, classic 'Batman' while still being different enough to be both its own thing as well as give the impression of a Batman in his younger years.

Nice work Jak. Things i dont like and which are not your fault:

1) Zippers in gloves.
2) Ghastly belt. I'd like a more high tech one in gold please.
3) Cape and cowl are not one. Still better than Nolan's combo though.
4) He's kinda thin.

Maybe not skinny, but definitely lanky. I tried to add some bulk by shortening his body but to no avail.

Call my old-fashioned, but I prefer it when CGI is only used when it is absolutely necessary. And since I believe that a physical non-rubber cowl can be made to work, I absolutely hate the idea of a CG cowl.

Other than that, I don't know what to tell you. Let's just agree to disagree .

You don't get more real than a real mask. I don't care how authentic CG is made to look.
DOUBLE WIN

A CG mask for Batman is a terrible idea. (Green Lantern is an awful argument for this topic I might add) because his mask is emitted from a power ring from space that creates green light. LMAO.

Batman...just...wears a mask? hahaha right?

soooo, bad argument.

I agree with everyone saying that we live in 2011, and coming up with a material that is flexible but looks sturdy and rigid should NOT BE IMPOSSIBLE...should not.
