The Dark Knight Rises The TDKR Box Office Thread II

It is a rip off because it's post-converted, and that's all Rises would have been a post-converted rip-off. I don't care if WB lose out on and extra couple hundred million, I'm glad Nolan had enough pulling power to tell them to shove their BS 3D crap elsewhere.

If Nolan agreed to 3D in the beginning, it would have probably been filmed that way and not post converted. I'm glad he held his ground. I'm not a big fan of 3D except for horror movies like the original HOUSE OF WAX and CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON. The only Marvel movie I saw in 3D was THOR, and the picture was too dim; the 2D Blu-ray looks much better. 3D isn't really for sweeping epics, which is what TDKR looks like it is.

I understand that, studios are greedy, but the person at the offices at WB who is shaking his fist in the air and cursing the lost opportunity to rip people off needs to have a long hard look at himself given the amount of cash this movie is going to bring in.

I'm no huge fan of 3D, but I don't see how giving people a choice, amounts to ripping them off.

Any studio exec is only concerned about maximizing shareholder value so they wouldn't be doing their job to bring these things up.

It is a rip off when 2d showings of a movie are almost non existant.....when i seen the avengers there was no 2d showings for it at all

On opening weekend when demand is at its highest, are they really giving us much of a choice when the film is on a single 2D screen while the 3D version is on 3-4 screens? On top of that, the 2D screen is smaller than the 3D screens. At my theater with Avengers, the 2D showing always sold out first and it was playing in a smaller screen. They didn't even give people much of a choice.

If they had actually put the thing side by side with equal screen counts and equal sized screens, then I would say they gave people a fair choice. But when you want to see it on opening weekend and all the 2D showings are sold out, what are you going to do? Probably pay the premium and watch it in 3D.

I don't know where you live, but I can tell you where I was at, every major theater had 2D and 3D showings. Older theaters only had 2D showings. This is probably true for most major theater chains in NA.

I saw Avengers opening weekend in 2D at an AMC theater and it was one of their large screens (not IMAX). For smaller theaters, yes they are going to save their primary viewing screens for 3D and IMAX.

But yes I can see your point. But from an studio exec standpoint, as I said, they wouldn't be doing their job to not try and maximize profit for shareholder value, so 3D like it or not is here for a long time.

It's a rip off because nothing is added to a post converted film. They're charging people extra for complete bull ****. On top of that 3D screenings outnumber 2D screenings. Case in point, Spider-Man at my local was screening 6 sessions in 3D, only 3 in 2D. It's a ****ing rip off.

3D is nothing more than a gimmick and a way for studios to make extra $$$

i personally find 3D annoying. IMAX is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better. there is absolutely no comparison.

Yeah 3D is getting extremely annoying in my area. Countless films have numerous sessions in 3D and just a few in 2D. It's a load of ****.

Couldn't have put it better why I think 3D is a complete waste of time, worse thing is some people honestly believe it's worth it...marketing at it's finest.

The 3d in the avengers was pathetic. I saw it in IMAX 3d and desperately wanted to just take off the stupid clunky glasses and enjoy regular imax not possible of course.

I only noticed it with the cheap 3D shot of Hawkeye shooting an arrow at the audience.

Does 3d have a sustainable future? what do the general public prefer? Not fussed one way or the other

When they are done right they are good, but at least for the first few that came out it wasn't an enjoyable experience. I guess you have to go in knowing you will do 3D in order to look decent, when up converted this experience might not be as enjoyable?

I was fortunate enough to see a 4k display at CES early this year and with so much information and pixels on those screens it felt as real as the world, it felt like 3D without the glasses and without having to be perfectly positioned to experience it like other sets required.

Two pages of pure none sense. Can we stop talking about the history of 3D and why you enjoy it or not? Every time I see a response added I think it's an update about the dark knight rises box office projections at OW only to encounter another response about 3d.

Will u stop it already, please stop derailing the thread.

Sorry dude.

What do you think the drop will be on week #2? And how long will it be on top? I think the Bourne movie might be where TDKR loses the #1 spot.

I somehow doubt it seeing as TDKR was the movie that made Universal move the release date by one week in the first place. I honestly see Expendables 2 beating TDKR.

It'll be on screen at 27th in my country. One week later. ONE WEEK LATER.

Yeah The Expendables, you are right. What do you think the drop from week 1 to week 2 will be? My take is 50%, and I think TA dropped 50% too, so that's really the only reason why I'm going with 50%.

It's usually 45-50%.

Aah so i'm not alone in this. I get it on the 26th, cause movies here are released on thursdays. This movie not having a worldwide release = Very LAME :down

It's the 24th in my country. :(

You are so lucky my friend. I will have to wait till AUGUST 18.

TDK opened one day before the U.S. in my part of the world(Middle East) but because the holy month of Ramadan starts on the 19th of July(three days later) not many people go to the movies and theatre owners save the big hits till after Ramadan ends. That's why i think if TDKR passes the $1B mark it will need more than 30 days compared to 19 for TA.

Domestic BO:

~$200m in 3 days.
$380 on 2nd Sunday.
$500m in 29 days.

World wide BO:

$500m in 5 days.
$800m in 15.
$1Billion in 34.
