The Dark Knight Rises The TDKR Box Office Thread II

I think everyone here should stop worrying about the olympics, spider-man, avengers and whatever else. This will be the highest grossing film of the year, and maybe the most critically acclaimed too. (and possibly the film event of our lifetime.)

The loki comment is so ridiculous I'll just pretend you never mentioned that anyone said it.

Hell, I wish I hadn't read those comments myself.

Don't get me wrong, Hiddleston's performance was great but it was nowhere near Ledger's. Heath was just astronomically outstanding.

To be fair, apparently according to this board, TDK helped Obama win the presidency! :whatever:

Don't remind me. Ugh. :barf:

WOW. Some peeps are either really insecure or are too sensitive to enjoy life... It's a shame that society has become a reflection if this as well.

I understand that there will always be a line not to be crossed, but it seems that that line is being moved constantly.

It would've been a killer gif though...

Well, to be fair, those little flamewars have been stressful to The Mods trying to keep the place calm and friendly. I can see why the crackdown has been more severe nowadays than it was four years ago.

It's gonna get ugly after July 20th. I mean Marvelites and Avenger Superfans are already claiming ridiculous garbage. From Hiddleston's Loki being superior over Ledger's Joker to claims that the film has cured depression in America.

:lmao:

No worries, The Dark Knight Rises is poised to bring us back into depression!

I get sad just thinking about it. :awesome:

:word: I do like the possibility and the sound of that!

It will cure aids. Bring world peace. Dig Osama from the depths of the ocean, mangle the dead corpse, and put it back in there again.

Well, TDK did delay The Apocalypse, bring forth World Peace, and was responsible for first contact with extraterrestial beings. :oldrazz:

Why would it? The olympics start on the 27th, TDKR's opening is completely unopposed.

Not to mention that TDK came out 4 years ago when the last Olympics also took place, and I didn't hear too many arguments that it ate at the box office then.

And the words that forever went down as the first spoken by an alien visitor were "**** off, Dark Knight starts in 20 minutes!"

Well 2008 Olympics started 3 weeks after TDK OW, 2012 Olympics will start just a week after.

Indeed. The film has been an ambassador to all alien life in the universe for finally uniting.

Let it be known that TDKR will stop the universe from expanding and solve the world's economic issues.

In all seriousness, there is a very real chance that an "extended" cut of the Avengers is coming out. Could this be the final stroke which seals the notion of TDKR equaling Avengers in Box Office off? How much more did Avatar's Extended cut make it?

Avatar made 33.2 million from a 12 week re-release (worldwide). So I'd say it's not a huge factor, but you never know. The Avengers' gross is a huge mountain to climb as it is. If it even manages to come within a margin of 35-50 million that would already be beyond what's expected.

Yeah, the odds of The Avengers making more than 15-20 million In a re-release are slim. I mean, it was just released two months ago. Incidentally, some theaters around here are still showing The Avengers.

Marvel would be stupid to waste a re-release to get a couple of extra Million. If I were them, I'd wait a few years, so they could bring in a couple of extra hundred million, like Titanic 3-D did.

180m on OW would most definitely be a statement. Now we'll see if TDKR can get there. The Olympics could prove to be an obstacle.

The Olympics opens on the 27th of July so there will be no threat from that to the OW.

Edit: Late in the game.

Very true. Would be a pretty foolish move IMO.

Hiddleston was excellent as Loki, even more so in Avengers than in Thor but Ledger as Joker I would guess comes in at no.2 on many people's all time villain list. And The Joker needed much more of a performance than Darth Vader to get to that level.

I still believe Hiddleston's Loki was far more complex and enthralling in Thor. I didn't see the same Loki in The Avengers, in my opinion.

As for Ledger's Joker, he undoubtedly found a spot on my Top Ten list for on-screen villains of all time but it's arduous to try and rank him.

Ledgers joker is truly one of the most iconic movie villians of all time...i cant say that about hiddlestons loki...although i do think hes the best villian in any marvel movie...that really isnt saying much since marvel movie villians have kinda been underwhelming
