The Dark Knight Rises The TDKR General Discussion & Speculation Thread (NOT A LOUNGE) - - - Part 58

The Dark Knight is a game changer on personal level. I just can't watch any other super-hero movies anymore. The Avengers trailer makes me vomit. So did Cap. America, Green Lantern, G.I. Joe and Iron Man 2. Not sure about the new Spider-man for now. Probably, from the same league.

Batman Begins was great, but it didn't change anything. We got plenty of typical super-hero movies after that. Spider-man movies, Daredevil, Hulk movies and other. Beautiful, nice FX, but empty.

Probably, overall, the real game changer is X-Men or Spider-man. They started the decade of endless comic book movies.
Sorry, but that's kind of pathetic in my opinion

I'm always around, Lois. :yay:

I'm just less enthusiastic than I once was, mate. I watch, but I don't know a lot of the posters now, so find it hard committing to the cause the way I used to.

Ah I see. So you're still enthusiastic for TDKR then?

This may be a little more apparent when TDKR is out, but I've always considered the strength of Nolan's batman to be one of a "cage rattler" (he said it) In the comics the burden a largely falls on him and eventually his bat-family. I think the point of the Nolan trilogy isn't about a man who stood up and made a difference, it's a man who made everyone else make a difference.

Theres only so much a man with money a suit and skills can do, but if he inspires and affects the city, thats where his power comes from, not so much the almost superhuman individual skill. It's why Gordon is such a big part of the series, it's why Harvey, Rachel and the other gothamites are such big parts of the story. It's about their willingness to make a change, just as much as it is Batman's.

He is still a badass who breaks faces though, that I like.

Us newer posters don't bite, or crack eggshells. :o You should stick around once in a while :yay: Many of us lurked during the golden ages and miss you guys just as much as the veteran posters who are still active do.

BATMAN BEGINS had a pretty clear impact on superhero origin film structures and origin film structures, period.
And Begins itself was structured after Superman the movie.

This.

Now is not a golden age?

I think the same can be said about TDK. It's one of the basic critiques about the movie, in that Batman doesn't feel fully formed, and one reason why some feel a bit depressed about the 8 year hiatus that Bruce has been on between films. But of course, BB and TDK take place shortly after each other, so yes, these are Batman's rookie years, but it seems he may stay that way the entire series....we'll have to see what they do with TDKR.

Fully formed compared to what? Maybe this version of Batman was at the top of his game around TDK. He is not meant to be the all perfect in every area Batman of the comics. Again part of why I love this Batman/Bruce Wayne so much, his huge flaws. Maybe the most dynamic superhero in a film ever in my opinion.

I thinks it cool that in the end of this trilogy, not everything this Batman has done will have been good or even for the better. Life is a rocky journey and that's where Nolan's grounded approach shows the most, not in the way of how realistic it is having a man running round in a Batsuit fighting crime.

It's about the journey of the man Bruce Wayne. A troubled soul searching ways and paths to get rid of and/or get an outlet for his guilt, anger and fear.

Yeah, I'm a fan. I'll admit to not being as blown away with what I've seen so far compared to how I was with TDK. I've not written it off, not at all. This one seems much more mysterious. I don't really have a clue wtf is going on, to be honest. I feel like a pensioner in an Apple store.

I've got that feeling of, Oooo what's he gonna do? How's he gonna end it?

That's what's pulling me along for the ride. Not what I've seen.

I'm sure it'll be very good.

Batman seemed pretty smart as he was multitasking in the construction set piece.

That's good to know. It's nothing against new blood, of course. I've been pretty busy this year. But I've got a bit of downtime until late summer, so I'll be sure to pop in more often. :yay:

Eggy!! Good to see you still here. But I too have been busy as hell this year, and have not had as much time to be on the TDKR boards. But regardless I feel the same way, we are in the dark with this one, but I know Nolan will pull it off I can't wait for the next trailer.

It's because Nolan has all the control this time, I'm sure of it. He likes to save all the surprises for the theatre. He did the same with Inception if I recall, even though I barerly followed that one myself.

Yes. The marketing is identical to Inception. Which means, it it follows the pattern, Rises will have a kickass final trailer.

It's one thing to base your interest in a movie on the trailer, that's completely reasonable, I'm not interested in TDKR because of the trailer for instance.

It's another thing to hold TDK so highly that you can't watch any other superhero movies. TDK's a great movie, but not THAT great. That'd be like me not being able to watch Puss in Boots just because I hold Toy Story 3 to such a high regard.

Which means Rises will have a kickass ending.

Which means the score alone will have us in tears?

Oh wow. We'll probably actually get some of the score in the new trailer too! :woot:

When I'm listening to the score, I actually forget about "Time", all the other tracks or so good. :hrt:

I'm sure Hans has some....epic...stuff in store for Rises.

It's nice to see you around more, less and less of "the old crowd" are still strollin' these parts.

It's funny, I was actually just talking the other day in the Catwoman thread about "the good old days," and how the hype/fan uproar for this movie has been compared to TDK. There was a poster trying to say they thought the Joker was accepted more gracefully by the fans then the Catwoman suit has been, and I went into a brief description about the utter pandemonium that was the Hype during the few months before the December trailer in regards to the Joker.

It was a heck of a time. Definitely a hate/love relationship though. It was great to have so many people on the boards, but some of the arguments were simply ridiculous. Still, it seems crazy that it's been four years already.

Hell yes. I've been thinking the same. Still one of my favourite trailers even after the film was released!

People are allowed to rank movies however they want. I do agree though saying you can't watch any other superhero film is kinda silly, but I will say though that watching superhero films post TDK shows just how lacking some of them are.
