The Dark Knight Rises The TDKR General Discussion & Speculation Thread (NOT A LOUNGE) - - - Part 58

For TDKR, Nolan has made a Superhero a flesh and blood character that is capable of dying and making the general audience (not just CB fans, EVERYONE) CARE about a fictional character.

This is what I love most about Nolan's films and it's a testament to Bale's talent. It may sound lame but the thought of Bale's Wayne dying or even getting a beating from Bane upsets me. I want the character to prevail so much that I'll probably make a show of myself in the cinema. :o

What eveyone needs to realise is that by making a series of 'dark, serious' CB films, Nolan has achieved something that NONE of the Marvel films have done so far.

When Iron Man 1 came out, everyone's thoughts were 'What's the fight between him and Iron Monger gonna be like'

For Iron Man 2, it was War Machine and Ivanko, and how IM would beat him.

For TIH, it was the Hulk/Abomination fight.

For Thor and Captain America, it was the title characters vs. Loki / Red Skull.

For The Avengers, all everyone has thought is that ALL these characters would meet up in 1 film, but WHO were they fighting?

For TDKR, we have Bane and Catwoman. BUT the number 1 thought on everyone's minds is: 'Will Batman die?'

For every Marvel film including Avengers, the audience has always known that the superhero will prevail at the end. Its the action and story that everyone's looking forward to.

For TDKR, Nolan has made a Superhero a flesh and blood character that is capable of dying and making the general audience (not just CB fans, EVERYONE) CARE about a fictional character.

Think about that.

It may have taken 26 more years, but Christopher Nolan has achieved ON FILM, what Frank Miller achieved in comic form in 1986. THAT is the true achievement of BB/TDK/TDKR.
Nice post, I quoted you in the Avengers thread over at nolanfans. You break it down quite nicely

I certainly hope the reboot's story will be better than the mess Dini wrote for both Arkham games.

Indeed, but he catches most of the characters right, particular the relationships between the characters.

He usually does, but even the characterization was awful in those games. Look at what he did to Hugo Strange or Roger Goul, or even Ben!

It's interesting you mention this because, by Feige annoucing the next set of sequels, he's taken away any serious stakes out of the Avengers narrative. We know they'll make because the press releases for the sequels say so....

Does knowing that James Bond is going to survive his movies each and every time take away from his movies?

Did knowing that at the end of the day John Connor was going to live take away from the first 2 terminator films?

There are very few action/adventure type movies where protagonists die, and i don't believe figuring that out beforehand takes away from the movie at all.

Bane is awful in the Arkham games. Just absolutely awful.

Yeah 10 foot guy who has about 300 Lbs of muscle feels the need to beg Batman to not lock him in an elevator...because for some reason he can't break out of that

he was horrible and Funnily enough, so is Catwoman.

Sefton Hill and Paul Crocker were primarily responsible for all those flaws... not Dini.

He has to work within their perimeters.

Alright, got that out of my system, back to brass tacks. I 100% agree with this post. I think that for all its "lack" of buzz, TDKR is going to completely shock people. That's why there almost IS no promotional work being done until May..word of mouth after opening night, PLUS repeat viewings, are going to get people to see this because it's going to do something no superhero film has done to date. And it's all because Nolan has the balls to do it.

The most shocking to me was Bane, in both games, everything from the look to the chracterization, was awful!...............but we´re going a bit off topic here:whatever:............now.....how are the bets that the next trailer will be with the Avengers....!????

I didn't know that. Thank for the info. that doesn't make it any better though.

I certainly hope so, but I'm afraid we'll have to wait a few more days :csad:

Well the reboot will supposedly be only inspired by the semi-realistic... yet somewhat fantastical elements of the games.

Its a step in the right direction after Nolan.

When is that expo, where they might show it first!?

IMO Hugo was one of the better characters, it's his plot that sucked.

Yeah...he had the bald head.

best written character was Talia and Batman.

Worse: Bane/Catwoman/Alfred.

Some of the things he said were like so odd. I was sure Batman was dreaming when alfred was talking.

I mean I was LITERALLY SURE this was a dream.
