Gambol's death annoyed me, as well. It was a non-issue to imply and not show his death in a statisfactory way. The worst thing in that scene, however, was Joker saying "How about alive?". He told you the other day, idiot, "500.000 dead, a million alive, to teach him some manners"!

I didn't mind Lau's death.

haha yea. Maybe he has so much on his mind he forgot that detail. I didn't like the way that scene was edited. Gambol's mouth movements don't match up to the dialogue at one point. And although it's fine implying death and not showing it, it could have been done better. I mean, people don't silently collapse to the floor after being stabbed in the face or the throat.

It's a shame because the build up is really good, really really good. Then the pay off is just like... ehhhh.

What some of you are forgetting is TDK was not driven into full blow hype until the middle of May. It's April. So just remember that :D .

yeah i mean come on, you can find thousands of little mistakes in movies if you nitpick like that. i'm glad stuff like that mostly pass me by and when they don't they don't bother me, cause that would take a lot of the fun out in watching movies for me.

Ehh i thought it was blatantly obvious though.

At around the 22 second mark. That's just really bad and an easy fix, i don't know how it got out of the editing room.

Like I said, nothing I haven't seen before. Now, if you had mentioned the rooftop scene with Gordon and Ramirez, where in some shots she's holding a cup and/or drinking from it and in the rest she doesn't even hold it close to her head... or during the prologue, where the bank teller raises her hands in surrender twice in two shots (a wide and a medium shot)....

lol i know films have mistakes like that. But i mean, how can ones so obvious and easily fixable make it past the people doing the editing? Were they stoned whilst they were in there or something?

The Gambol one is especially bad because it's a close up of his face. How the **** did they miss that? A film maker of Nolan's calibre shouldn't be letting that **** slide.

There may be practical issues we're not familiar with, seeing as we aren't part of the editing or ADR process for those movies. I doubt people miss ALL of those mistakes and I also doubt they deliberately leave such flaws in a movie.

<TDK fanboy>The bad editing is deliberate. Its chaos is befitting the theme of the movie. Don't you guys get it?</TDK fanboy>

Jokes aside, the film preceding TDK and the film coming after it by Nolan with his editor Lee Smith didn't have as many goofs and odd cutaways as TDK. So it's either unintentionally the worst edited film in his filmography, or it was deliberate.

I hope TDKR is a better edited film, anyway.

Tons if not most films have pretty silly mistakes if you watch them over 100 times like people here do for TDK.

I must admit, no matter how big a Nolan fanboy I am, that the shot continuity of TDK was one of the worst in mainstream cinema.

No. That would be Begins. That's not to say Inception and TDK don't have episodes of bad editing though.

I think he must have just done too many shots of the same scenes. Too many dailies. Then mixed them up in the editing room.

Agreed the problems of Inception and TDK didn't really occur to me until repeated viewings, BB despite how good it was felt like the most rushed mess ever of a film. It felt like instead of making the choice to cut scenes from the movie, he decided to squash them all in while Zimmers music played, it felt at times like an overlong trailer.

There's this one moment, when Bats drives off the bridge into the narrows, gets out of his car, divulges his plan to gordon, and gives him his car all in less than a minute. I'm glad he chose to let his scenes breath in TDK.

I just wish the joker carried some higher quality knives. most of the time he uses a cheapo Cupid OTF knockoff

throw in a benchmade or a spyderco

The entire Spawn scene is hugely problematic though. It seems Nolan was intimately aware of the fact that this film cannot surpass the PG13 rating and decided to compromise the editing and direction from the beginning. As opposed to filming it straight and compromising on the editing floor. Would it have been less of an editing mess done the latter way? Who knows. It's a sloppy scene regardless.

When Spawn just falls down after Joker does whatever he does to him is more of a failure of direction than editing.

Yea, Gambol silently slumping to the floor could have been fixed by having Joker snap his neck or something.

or stabbing him in the neck or slicing his throat

Another problem was Joker just lightly caressing the two men who brought him in and them dissapearing from the scene. I guess he stabbed them but it was so sloppily done. Also, what happened to his other knife? One shot he has two knives seemingly knifing the two dudes at his flank and the next he has one knife on Spawn. What happened to the other knife? Was it stuck on the crotch of one of the dudes?

At first I attributed these problems to editing, now I think this scene is just badly directed.

None of Jokers knives looked like real knives in the movie. They aren’t shiny and don’t glisten the way a real metal knife would, none of them even looked sharp lol.

The scene where it's most notable is when Joker crashes the party and is all up in Rachel’s face with the "blade". Looks like a plastic toy knife to me.
