Best Picture Oscars tend to go to films I've never seen and usually aren't interested in seeing. So I'm not holding out much hope for my favorite hero.
Huh? You've never seen return of the King? Slumdog? King's Speech? The Artist? All great films.

Titanic and Silence of the Lambs were two that surprised me.

I happen to really dig 60ish aged men, by the way. I think they get better as they get older. Just saying it ain't Dark Knight's best demo.

Memo to fans who saw TDKR- 60ish white older men will never think that's their idea of the best film of the year. Adjust accordingly.

Any idea on how to take this?

She/he is saying that older folks aren't the demographic for the film. Means nothing.

No, she's saying it won't win best picture because the older Oscar voters won't give it that many votes cause it's not their type of movie. It will be nominated for sure now that the category can have up to 10 nominees, but it won't win... unless Lincoln, The Master, and Django Unchained all really suck.

I thought for some reason that she had just left the LA screening and that it was full of 60ish year old white males so prepare yourselves for less than thrilled reactions. The oscar explanation makes more sense. Thanks!

It's weird to think that all those old voters were young during the 60's and the 70's Hollywood golden age, when films like "A Clockwork Orange" could get a nomination for Best Picture.

It's sad to think that we will probably end up like them :csad:

I can definitely see it possibly getting a best picture nomination, but no way it'll win. It'll probably be nominated/win a few other awards, though, so ehhh.

Can anyone just for god's sake tell me what time and channel will TDKR cast will be interview please????????!

I forgot about Return of the King. I did see that one. None of the rest. I'm not a huge movie goer. It has to thrill me or be something I'm interested in.

Very rarely does a bad film win best picture (i think Crash was the last one) but most of them are films I'd rarely consider the best of the year, The Artist, Kings Speech, Forrest Gump, Slumdog, Million Dollar Baby, Beautiful Mind, English Patient etc etc...I mean you get the ones that truly deserve the award like Return of the King, No country for old men, the departed etc etc...but there's clearly a pattern with most of them...the academy has a certain taste, and it's just outdated.

EDIT: oops meant to say truly not rarely, changes the whole thing now.

You guys really need to watch more movies. There's more to cinema than just comic book films.

Batman 89, Returns, the Nolan films and the first two Xmen are the only comic movies I've gone to the theater to see.

I prefer books and documentaries. I'd be bored stiff watching most Oscar winners.

Can someone I don't care who just tell me the info I need and ill stop asking lol I need to know this.

They vote for the film they think is best based on its artistic merits. They don't go for what's the most popular movie or the most entertaining and engaging.

It's not going to be televised. The press will interview them and post a write-up on their respective sites.

Yes and no, they still cater to the more sentimental and soppy fare, which is why "oscar bait" has become a term. If they really based it all on pure artistic merit...then half the films they chose wouldn't have been nominated let alone win best picture. No one can ever convince me or most film audiences and critics that Forrest Gump was a better film than Shawshank and Pulp Fiction, and that they were simply more "popular". It's just Forrest meets the criteria a little more.
