The Batman/Gordon relationship is the best relationship in Nolan's trilogy IMO.

If there's a lot of changes between the theatrical cut and that published script (and there are) who do you think came up with those changes and additions in dialogue? Would it be only Chris? Things that were taken out during editing would certainly be his call, but what changes in the writing?

^ Chris or the actors involved in the scene. I'm guessing more of the latter though since Chris wrote the published script so deviations from that would most likely not come from him. It might also be a combined effort between Chris and the actor/actress.

Seconded. It's the one aspect of the Batman mythology that Nolan nailed 100%. The fact he did it three times in a row is even more impressive.

See, I like the Batman/Gordon interactions a lot in this franchise, but I don't really think they've had much of an actual relationship. There have been glimpses of one, but I don't think we ever got anything resembling a fully realized relationship. More of a working relationship.

Dunno about you, but I went a little bit :hrt: at the hospital where Bruce was holding Gordon's hand.

In the novel, Bruce felt angry (at Bane) when he saw Gordon lying at the hospital bed and he subconsciously made a sound (he growled I think :funny:) because of the anger that he felt which is what woke Gordon up. :hrt:

Nobody ever seems to mention that Bruce is holding Gordan's hand as he's lying there... so sad.

What more did you want? For them to go on picnics during weekends and have sleepovers too.

They still had "intimate" moments if you will and TDK solidified that when Gordon's family was being held captive by Two Face. That's not even scratching the surface either when it come to moments of sentimentality shown between them. It's pretty clear that they each cared and respected one another.

I loved it in TDK when Gordon 'scolded' his team (I think it was Ramirez?) when they raised their voice at Bats.

The scene of Batman popping out of the birthday cake for Gordon's son must have been cut from the script. Without that, zero relationship between Batman and Gordon. The rooftop discussions, Batman's rage and sadness after Gordon is "killed", Bruce holding Gordon's hand in the hospital, his subtle reveal to Gordon before taking the bomb, all those things didn't convey a deeper relationship beyond a working one. At all.

They might as well have been distant facebook friends.

Honestly? For their working relationship to develop into a friendship of sorts. Would have been nice if maybe Batman asked about Gordon's family in the hospital. Maybe they have a bit of a discussion about the cost of their respective missions, prop each other up a bit. Maybe they acknowledge that they're friends and not just allies. Something other than "shop talk".

I didn't say there was no relationship...I said there wasn't much of one beyond their working one. Their conversations are pretty much all confined to work. A few subtle hints of caring about each other isn't a fully realized personal relationship/friendship.

Again...I didn't say "zero relationship". I never said they didn't have a sense of a deeper relationship than a working one. I said there wasn't much of a fully realized one.

Yeah, Batman visiting Gordon and holding hand in the hospital was a nice touch.

Maybe lose the sarcasm until you've properly interpreted (read: read) someone's statements.

I had hoped for more reflection on the cost that the lie had brought them in TDKR. Also for Batman to call him Jim... just once. But it was still the best relationship in the trilogy.

And how 'bout those Gotham Rogues??
