Merry belated Christmas TDKR General Discussion thread!

After a nice day with my family, I got home and wanted to test out the new surround sound my girlfriend got me for Christmas. Decided to break it in with a viewing of TDKR.

What a great decision. Dat movie. Dat ending. :awesome:

Although my downstairs neighbors were probably hearing a lot of DESHI DESHI BASARA BASARA at a pretty obnoxious hour.

I got the blu-ray trilogy collector's edition for Christmas and watched the two lengthy special features. They were really quite good, especially the making of documentary. There is much praise lavished on the movies and Chris Nolan, but I gotta say that I agreed with it all. This is a modern classic up there with the other hallowed trilogies.

The more I watch this the more stuff bugs me, I still hate Bane and there's so much stupidity aswell, its just such a shame that Nolan lost his way with this one after two superb fioms.

Ahh i love Bane. Still my favorite comic book villain on film next to Joker. I never doubt the brilliance of Tom Hardy.

I love Nolan and Ledger's Joker to death, but to me Bane is the more complete adversary to Batman in TDKT. Physical prowess, deep adherence to personal ideology, and cunning strategist.

Joker is pure anarchy, and I take nothing away from that. Joker and Batman are yin and yang, complementing each other so perfectly. The film version of Bane is just something else entirely - he's like Batman's worst nightmare.

It's one of the primary reasons I love TDKR so much - as a climax to Batman's arc, Bane is the ultimate antagonist. Joker tests and pushes Batman to the brink, but Bane breaks him physically and mentally.

Funny you think that yet Joker did more personal damage to Batman's life than Bane ever did. He didn't need to get Batman's secret identity handed to him by the LOS to do it either.

I wish I did but that damn voice just ruins it for me. Well that and in the end he's not really the major threat he's the major threats errand boy.

Bane was really really good villain (if that makes sense) until Catwoman kills him

True. But I imagine Bane turning Gotham into a complete apocalyptic dystopia where likely thousands died will have some effect on Bruce's psyche. Fortunately for him, he has grown past that point by the end.

I have to ask people who think this

Is it because she kills him so quickly (though still with a small cannon)

or

Is it because SHE kills him?

And I know it might be "both." But it will obviously be more one than the other for any person with a critique of this.

I am just curious.

It's because a female did it and because it was so sudden. It's one or the other. Or both. Otherwise i dont know why people hate his death. I love it. Bane took a canon to the chest. I think it's pretty badass myself. Catwoman saved Batman's ass just like he did for her.

Cool. I adore the voice. Sometimes it gives me chills in a badass way, sometimes it makes me laugh. Either way it's always entertaining for me and really fun to imitate which is the case usually with a good villain.

It's the only way Bane could have gone out other than blowing up with the bomb. I've never understood how else people wanted Bane to die. Batman wasn't going to outright kill him.

Forget the fact that Catwoman killed Bane which led to a crappy, unfullfilling death.

I'm surprised people haven't questioned the logistics that Catwoman somehow managed to get through the glass door, with a big assed, whirring Batpod without Bane noticing. :funny: Not to mention being able to shoot Bane with a missile launcher clear across the room while Batman, only inches away from Bane is virtually unscathed. Then again, Batman wasn't even bothered by being stabbed in the side with a knife, right up in his ribs after Bane and Talia were taken care of sooooooooo.

I can just picture Catwoman slowly driving up the steps of City Hall and carefully getting off the Batpod to prop open the glass doors open (they're not damaged at all) so she could get in quietly. In reality, Talia and her men should have noticed Catwoman driving up the steps and riddled her with bullets before she ever reached Bane. If Catwoman managed to kill them, then Bane surely would have heard her coming from a mile away, even with all the ruckus going on outside. HELL, in his last few seconds of life (when he says, you know I have to kill you now), he's looking RIGHT in Catwoman's general direction! :funny: Then again, it's just a silly, stupid movie. Bane had to die, what better way than being rocket blasted by the Batpod's super duper missiles.

I think it would have been better (and more plausible) if Catwoman had simply popped Bane in the head with her hand pistol with the Batpod being saved until the chase scene. Those big cannons on the Batpod (the ones that were enough to send park cards into gigantic fiery explosions) was too much. Bane and Batman should have been killed as soon as those missiles hit impact. Catwoman with a pistol would have been "much more subtle" and give a little more credence to, "about the no guns thing/I don't feel as strongly as you do" (which insinuates that Batman does indeed use guns).

Or it lead to one of my favorite endings in the history of movies. So if Bane's demise led to that, then congratulations to the Nolan brothers.

Milost you're just sounding like a hypocrite the more you post. You always like to say that it's "still a good movie but flawed" then you come out with "It's just a silly stupid movie". Make up your mind? You either think it's horrible or you don't.

Nitpicks like how Catwoman fired off the canon, etc..is just hilarious considering that it's a darn BATMAN MOVIE! Begins and TDK had worse things than that.

Oh it definitely made me laugh at times lol

What in Begins or The Dark Knight is worse than Catwoman driving up steps, through a door with glass windows that shows all visibility, whilst Bane looking in her direction? Is that really a nitpick? She got up those steps in a few seconds without making a sound just in time for Bane to not blow Batman's brains out? Bane didn't see or hear or coming? Or his allies for that matter? The missile that we've seen used so often just hits Bane and misses Batman?

Is it just a "darn BATMAN movie", or is it the epitome of cinema like some here make it out to be? If it's the former, you must agree than that "it's just a stupid movie" which is basically just a harsher way of saying it's "a darn Batman movie".

In retrospect, Catwoman driving up, blasting Bane away with a big ole rocket launcher and quipping is silly in a big, dumb, "comic book blockbuster" sort of way. Something that many folks in this discussion blast other films of the same genre for.

Im saying we could take it seriously, more than most of the comic book movies out there because of the themes, the level of talent involved. But at the end of the day it's also just a Batman movie, and we still need to suspend disbelief and just enjoy the action. Begins and TDK had stuff in there that didn't make any sense. The microwave emitter, the fact that batman could kill 2 cops easily by running over them with his batmobile despite having a no-kill rule, yet they just happened to make it out OK so i guess it wasn't intentional? That could be considered a plothole around here and im sure if that scene was in Rises ppl would be desperately adding it to their hate lists. But because it's in Begins everyone tries to act like it never happened. The things Joker is able to do with the bombs. Catwoman blowing away Bane is pretty tame. Suspension of disbelief is always key.

Actually, now that you mention it, it does kind of bother me how easily people can just hop into Batman's vehicles and drive them with ease.

Atleast Gordon had some difficulty/fear driving around in the Tumbler (which, I'll admit, is sort of stupid along with the microwave emitter, I'll give you that). But Catwoman? She gets on it and instantly "gets it", not to mention all the missiles it seems to come with despite only having two canons.

I still abide by the idea that Joker can do all those things he does in TDK because he's the Joker. The buses? He timed it perfectly and has an almost insane intellect level. He owns half the city (the muscle, the gangs, the mob and the police) and stages everything meticulously. From bombs in stomachs to blown up hospitals, he's thought it all through. Catwoman driving a vehicle that makes a loud, unending whirring sound in an area with crystal clear visibility with it's windows? Well, I can only suspend my disbelief so far. She should have been in their on foot, with pistol in hand.

Bane went out like a *****. Very disappointing. For me, it's not so much that Catwoman kills him, but rather they way it happened. I never considered milost's observations about Bane not noticing her, and while it does sound ridiculous, it's just one of those things where you have to accept that this is a movie and silly things happen in it.
