[The Joker]

Haha, yyyup. The irony is amazing.

And Hardy is playing Rick Flag.

That's great. I am thrilled Hardy is doing another DC movie. He was so unrecognizable as Bane that he is primed to play another character without looking or sounding like Bane.

I'm not really excited with B V S at all. The SS movie hype is the first time I've actually cared about the DCCU.

I honestly could not care less about B vs S. Partially because it's a sequel to MOS which left me cold, Snyder is directing again, and also because I have not seen or heard anything to make me remotely interested in the movie. It looks like a cluster mess of characters being jammed into Superman's sequel so they can fast track to a JL movie.

The Suicide Squad on the other hand looks like it could be a ton of fun. After watching Batman Assault on Arkham, I've seen the potential that's there for a movie like this. The casting so far has been excellent. If they get a great actress for Amanda Waller then I am sold completely.

I am feeling a little sad to see another actor step into Joker's shoes this soon. I know it's been 6 years since TDK, but Heath was so darn good that I just wasn't prepared to see the role played by someone else so soon. I thought it would be at least 10 years before Joker showed up on screen again.

That said I wish Leto all the best, and hope he rocks in the role.

Yeah, it's definitely happening a bit sooner than most of us would've expected. Heath will always have a special place in my heart for that amazing parting gift he left us with. No way will that ever be forgotten.

I definitely think Leto is very well cast here though and I'm expecting good things. He'll also very likely end up being the first actor to play The Joker in more than one film.

I honestly could not care less about B vs S. This is the fastest turnover rate for a live action joker that we've ever seen. It usually takes 20 Years before we see a new version. It is interesting that Ledger got replaced so soon. Leto has tough shoes to fill for sure.

It's so weird how open I am to seeing Leto as the Joker. I never expected that. I guess it's because he has that manic energy that makes it easier for me to imagine him as the Joker.

I really hope they get Davis as Waller. My god. That would be amazing.

The big fight showdown at the end is between Deadshot and Joker.

Hell Amanda Waller was more of a nemesis to the Squad in it than Batman was.

Unlike the Sinister Six, which absolutely relies on Spider-Man, and we know their movie is just a desperate move by Sony because of TASM 2's lukewarm response.

That's why I have no faith in it. Plus it's connected to the god awful TASM universe where the villains are like Foxx's and Giamatti's goofy Electro and Rhino, and the troll doll looking "Goblin".

It's a ballsy move. I do wish Leto all the best. Joker comes in so many flavors that it's easy to do another interpretation that fits the character and does not feel like a repeat of Heath's style, or even Jack's.

I don't think Oprah would be too bad of a choice but Davis (and Spencer) are much better choices. I'm not confident that Oprah can disappear into the role but she's still a better choice than say Kerry Washington (who I love but is wrong for the part IMO).

Hate to say it but I find the SS cast to be much more exciting than the BvS cast. This is the first casting news I'm been super excited about in the new DC verse.

I'm a big fan of David Ayer's and with Michelle MacLaren directing Wonder Woman I am officially on board for this DCCU.

That said, it's insane that BvS leaves me cold. That should be the killer app, but it isn't.

I wasn't a fan of the animated Suicide Squad movie. My issues? Ugly looking, excessively violent and the usual stuff they resort to to push the PG-13 rating...

I thought AoS used Batman in a brillant manner. In using him sparingly throughout the film, they captured Batman from the Supervillains POV.

Absolutely agreed. Sinister Six is not its own movie, it should be a Spider Man film. I would just scrap a Sinister Six film, and make them the main villains of ASM3.

Apparently her, Viola Davis, and Octavia Spencer are in the running. I remember her making a bit of an acting comeback in "The Butler" a while back too. I think Oprah would be a huge get for this movie. Maybe it would bring in the soccer mom demographic, lol

I don't think Oprah would be too bad of a choice but Davis (and Spencer) are much better choices. I'm not confident that Oprah can disappear into the role but she's still a better choice than say Kerry Washington (who I love but is wrong for the part IMO).

Yeah, Davis and Spencer are fantastic. I do think Oprah would be the most interesting casting choice, but these are excellent options all around. Kerry should be nowhere near the list, lol. They need to cast someone who resembles classic Waller, not the modern slim version.

Heath completely obilterated any notion people had about that role and it's truly a shame he never got to see the overwhelming appreciation his work received. His version became a cultural touchstone and it's unfortunate that he will (effectively) be competing with another version 6/7 years after he made it legendary.

Ignoring animation... Cesar Romero had 20 years to bask in Joker glory and Jack Nicholson had 19. It's a shame Ledger wasn't afforded the same.

In saying that, it had to happen at some point and I'm sure if Heath were alive, he'd shrug it off and tell Leto to have fun with it. Plus, I know everyone said that Ledger was ''brave'' to follow in Jack's footsteps... but this time, I think we can all agree, Leto is really, really brave to follow in Ledger's footsteps.

It's a very bittersweet feeling. I'm happy that the character of The Joker is moving forward and into the future on film (as he inevitably had to), but it's also kind of too bad that Ledger's version didn't get that same type of breathing room to become a truly generational thing like the previous versions were. And it calls to mind once again how much it sucks that he never even got to see how much his work was celebrated.

Yeah, it is a shame that Ledger didn't live to see how much people appreciated his performance. Weirdly enough a friend of mine insists that Ledger's Joker wasn't as deep/complex/etc. as Jack's Joker, but then again he thought Wolverine: Origins was better than Dark Knight so to each their own...

Really, the only SS casting choice I have any issue with is Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang. Everyone else is spot on. (Well, I'm somewhat meh about Cara Delevigne only because I've not seen her in anything lol)

I'm probably just suffering post Dark Knight Trilogy/Marvel Phase One fatigue but I really could care less about the B v S and SS or anything else at this point. I think I'm more excited to see something different like Star Wars at this point. Hopefully new trailers will change my mind and get me more pumped up.

I never saw Leto as Joker but I learned my lesson, casting Daniel Craig as James Bond is this wait until you seen the film so I waited until Ledger as Joker until I saw him in the film

Im now pretty stoked for this universe going forward, but only until 2017's Justice League. After that? It's too far away and im not looking forward to Flash, Aquaman, Cyborg, etc. I dont have faith in those projects, yet.

Im MUCH more excited for Star Wars, Tarantino's new film "The Hateful Eight" and Paul Thomas Anderson's "Inherent Vice" than any comic book movie. Including B v S or Suicide Squad.

Well, I won't go as far as Ryan, it's not that I don't care at all about BvS and SS and the whole plethora of superhero movies on the way. SS especially sounds badass. I'll be seeing those movies opening night I'm sure. But right now Star Wars is just the thing that's really feeding my inner fanboy and making me giddy with excitement. It's so monumental, people have speculated about a sequel trilogy for decades and now it's finally a reality. The superhero genre has been chugging along like clockwork for about 15 years now. We're talking about the return of the original blockbuster franchise here, and it looks like it could end up being something pretty special.

It's funny cause in 2005, Begins and Episode III were the two big movies on my radar. I was probably slightly more excited for Star Wars, but ended up loving Begins even more and seeing it more times in theaters. So who knows what I'll wind up loving the most...I just know that as of right now, nothing touches my anticipation for The Force Awakens. After that teaser, it has been placed up on that pedestal for me.

Recasting in a new universe is a very different thing from recasting in the same universe. It's all for the best, the stars have aligned for Leto to accept this role at this point in time, and hopefully he'll knock it out of the park.

Yes, but Nolan had recast Katie Holmes, and Maggie looked very different. You surely could have recast Joker without having him look very different (Ledger barely looked like Ledger under all that make-up). IMO, TDKR needed Joker very much.
