The Dark Knight Rises The TDKR General Discussion Thread - - - - - - - Part 156

That’s because the director of the film didn’t tell every interviewer how much of a comic lore simp he was.

In fact, Burton was the opposite. He was dismissive of the comics.

Snyder loved to pound us with the idea that he was a slavish comic book recreator. Hence why Batfleck being a bloodthirsty meathead was so off putting. At least to me.

I never cared for 'The Bat'... perhaps the aesthetic had simply worn thin by that point.

So according to Kevin Smith, Bale was pressured for months to cameo in The Flash and he turned it down repeatedly. Thank god!

I like the film, but yeah... I'm not sure we ever need to see Bale back in the role. Maybe it truly is best to leave things where we left them.

I freaking love the Bat. It's so Blade-Runner-y, it's pretty much a Batman Beyond vehicle. Mix of practical and CG was chef's kiss. Incredibly underrated IMO.

And I'm so glad Bale had the integrity to not cameo in The Flash and avoided any association with this historic bomb .

To me, it's either leave well enough alone or save it for one last ride some day in the future if the Nolans ever had an epic story worthy of a return up their sleeves.

Who knows if a wide audience will even care 10/15 years from now.

I also think the chance of Nolan coming back to Batman is pretty non-existent. It felt like he had half of his body hanging out the exit door while making TDKR.

I agree that it's near non-existent, but I like leaving that .0001% chance open for fun, heh. Also because Bale has maintained he would be down for it if Nolan was, and Jonah once said he'd be interested in revisiting the character at a later point in his life. A lot of stars would have to align and it's extremely unlikely though. Then again Keaton returning seemed like a pipe dream too, so you just never really know with this stuff.

You could be right that nobody would care anyway, but I'd like to think that the pairing of director and actor does matter. Like I fully believe a full-on "Batman Beyond" with Burton directing and Keaton starring would've performed a lot better than The Flash is. The Flash sucked a lot of what made that version of Batman special right out of it IMO. It just came across like bland corporate product, and I think people are getting more attuned to that.

Yeah I doubt Nolan would ever return for another Batman film, but never say never. I used to doubt ever seeing Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man again, let alone being in a movie with 2 others at the same time. The unpredictable has come true, and I think if there ever is a chance, it'll likely be when Nolan is winding down a bit. If it ever does happen, it would be HUGE.

Very wise man. Don't touch that movie with a fifty foot pole. Especially anything that Ezra Miller is in.

Easy to turn down a cameo. I wonder if they gave him Keaton's role and a big fat paycheck in June 2020, would he have considered it more?

He can consider it all he likes. As long as his final answer is no. Bale also never seemed like the kind of actor who was motivated by a pay check more than the work. Especially considering the crazy dedication he's put into some of his roles.

Yeah, and if I'm not mistaken, they wanted him to be

in Clooneys place at the end. after Bale turned it down, it went to him.

It would have been a waste.

Well I'm a huge Bale fan, but I'm not sure I would want him to return to the role now. Best to keep what he did intact.

WB will be charging ahead with Pattinson and B&B (another decision I'm not sure about).

I wouldn't want Bale to return to the role today or tomorrow, but I'm open to a possible future if the stars are aligned for it and it felt right. If nothing else, I'd really love to see Bale and Nolan collaborate again but Nolan seems resistant to cast him due to Bale's strong association as his Batman.

If the rumors are true he was offered a lot of money for BvS. Though it's never been clear to me if that was actually true or not. Regardless, Bale has maintained that he would only do it if Nolan did it, the same thing Keaton used to say about Burton. Not blaming Keaton though, with him being in his 70s and all I'm sure he figured this was probably his one and only opportunity to revisit the role one last time. Sucks he got caught in the crossfire here. I hope Batgirl gets leaked somehow, the leaked pics that came out the other day already look visually more in keeping with the true Keaton Batman to me than The Flash. And at least we'll get the next best Burton/Keaton reunion with Beetlejuice 2.

Yeah, Batgirl actually looked cooler, at least visually. Lots of practical fx, and Keaton's Batman was on the set of an actual practical Gotham in the snow along with the cathedral from 89. I hope it gets leaked as well. WB is in a pretty horrible state right now, and I think it's kinda scary to watch. I pray Superman Legacy is a great movie, which I think it will be, but even that needs to have more than just good reception to succeed. Look at the numbers for The Flash. It's awful, to put it bluntly. Myself? I was meh on the movie and bored by most of it. Seeing Keaton again was cool but it's pathetic how much WB was hyping the movie up

Anyway, I'd be open to another Nolan Batman if it made sense and I'm sure that's the only way the Nolan brothers and Bale would do it. Can you imagine the hype if it was announced?

Dude, WB is not looking good right now. Makes me sad, it really always always my favorite studio, but it's hard to shake the feeling that between AT&T and now Zaslav/Discovery it's just being run straight into the ground.

Superman Legacy might honestly have more riding on it than any WB/DC movie ever.

Yup. I think WB is in serious trouble, which is why I find it hard to believe Nolan will work with themagain honestly.

And yeah, I think so as well. I'm sure Gunn is feeling it behind closed doors. If it means anything, I am definitely looking forward to Superman Legacy and I think it's gonna end up giving the character some well needed life and respect in film again. Loving the choices they have lined up for Clark and lois. It's the wider DC plan I'm skeptical about. I still am not fond of the idea of more than one Batman at once, and muschietti wasn't my choice for Brave and The Bold, if I even had to pick one. Matt Reeves world is the only ongoing live action Batman world I really care about as of now.

I mean its crazy to think that a movie featuring the return of Michael Keaton's Batman is bombing harder than Green Lantern. In no reality should that be happening.
