The Dark Knight Rises The TDKR General Discussion Thread - - - - - - - Part 156

Most of those "If I made...." videos are pretty meh, when it comes to the changes people would make. Almost all of them deviate way too much from the original film that it barely even resembles it.

As far as fan-fic goes, I don't think it's too good.

Black Mask as the only villain in the final film of the trilogy? No thanks.

The Bruce/Dick storyline isn't bad, but it makes the main focus of the story a big rehash of what we already saw in Batman Forever.

He also completely skims over how Batman's reputation is cleared, but really isn't that the first thing you should figure out if you're going to try and do TDK sequel fan-fic?

I'm always up for good fan-fic cause it's fun to dream up alternate versions, but this one barely had enough actual ideas to warrant a video.

I'm happy with the DK Rises we received, to be honest.

Bane gets a hard time from people in regards to his plan, but I think he was a great villain regardless. The voice and mask are recognisable. His theme is catchy and memorable. He has a bunch of good scenes.

Bale was awesome and the arc was satisfying. The action is solid, namely the prologue, Batman's return, the sewer fight, the pit climb, the final Bane fight and the sacrifice with the nuclear bomb.

The movie rocks.

I thought Bane was fine, with the sewer fight being one of the highlights of the entire trilogy. Such a powerful moment made even more special by the lack of a score during it. People say Nolan has a habit of using scores to build emotion but he gave a big massive f u to his detractors in that scene.

Bane's exit from the film was a bit abrupt but to be honest, this was Bale's/Bruce's film. He deserved to have the climax all about him and it was for me a perfect end to the trilogy.

Me too. Loved the film, thought Bane was an amazing villain with incredible screen presence. I'd go as far as saying he is easily top 5 all time villain in comic book movies, if not top 3.

To me this is the last great CB movie i've seen. People can praise all the Captain Americas and Avengers they want, but this was the last time i felt truly thrilled and intrigued by a story in a CB movie. I haven't seen any other CB movie match the level of epicness and emotional tension this movie was capable of. Everything else aside from TDK feels like kid's stuff compared to this. The only CB film i can objectively consider superior to this is TDK.

TDKR was easily the best movie experience of my life. It didn't disappoint me like BvS. I waited years for it,impatiently, and when the day arrived, it delivered. Watched this movie 10 times in theaters and proudly took my mom to one of those sessions. She loved it and even cried a bit. I wouldn't have the courage to invite my parents to watch The Avengers, Captain America or even BvS. That's the difference between TDKR and everything else. It's a proper film that even people who laugh at super heroes can be touched by.

I completely agree.

Off the top of my head, I'd cite introducing Leslie Thompkins, Making Black Mask responsible for the death of Dick's parents and making him the damsel in distress Batman has to rescue at the end are my least favorite parts of the video.

I wouldn't have minded Black Mask being a villain but there are interesting ones to choose from even in the realistic world Nolan presented.

Couldn't have said it better. TDKR is my most favorite from the trilogy. Truly an amazing movie!

Glad to read the love for Rises.

It's my personal favorite comic book movie (maybe outside of Spiderman 2 but I haven't seen it in a long time so I'm not sure). TDK is a better as a film and script is concerned but I have an even deeper connection to Rises because of Bruce's journey and final scene. That head nod and smile will always make this grown man cry. I also took my mom to one of my TDKR viewings in IMAX, and that's a good memory. She loved it. Loves the trilogy and takes Bale over Affleck. She thinks Ben tries too hard to look grumpy haha.

Hey guys, I gota question. Sorry if this has been already asked...

At the end of the movie, before batman flys off with the nuke, Batman essentially tells Gordan "I am Bruce Wayne". Why is Gordan surprised Batman is Bruce Wayne? Earlier in the film, Blake comes to Wayne's house on Gordans orders....and basically says "we know you're batman".

I love this trilogy. I'm a little late to the party with my excitement over these films. But holy cow, they are amazing. Nobody will ever touch this type of storytelling in a legit superhero franchise.

The fire rises!!!!!!!!!!

I'm pretty sure Blake didn't go to Wayne Manor on Gordon's orders. In fact he said Gordon doesn't know or care who Batman is.

Didn't he tell Alfred that he needed to speak to Bruce. Alfred said no. Blake then said he could go get a warrant for investigation of Harvey Dent's death.

Also the conversation Blake and Wayne had talked about Gotham needing Batman. I'm gona go rewatch.

One thing that bothers me about TDKR and please correct me if I'm wrong because I haven't watched it since I saw it in theaters

The manor was donated to become a home for orphans, yes? So John Blake is basically doing batman stuff under an orphanage? That just doesn't sit right with me. Idk.

Yes because he figured out years ago based on a look on Bruce's face that he was Batman *eye roll*

Yeah, that's basically the idea. I don't know, I kind of like the that Wayne Manor is full of orphans and one day in the future Blake could pass the mantle to another one of them, and so on for generations to come. I feel like the bigger picture implication there is that the Batman legacy could theoretically always be tied to the Wayne legacy. And also that Wayne Manor is used for something that you know Thomas and Martha would be proud of.

Hopefully Bruce left him the coordinates to the Bat-bunker in the city too though- that would probably make for a better base of operations given the circumstances.

Also, the Batcave is just the South-East corner of the grounds.

Heard of the Arkham Manor concept? :hehe:

Yup. Also, in my head canon, when Blake returns to Gotham (after travelling the world for 3-5 years to learn as much as he can about fighting, stealth, whatever else) he gets a job at the orphanage, as a counselor (or even a caretaker or something). He'd have access to everything, be able to further his bond with the boys and help them through whatever they're going through, and gets his very own Alfred in the form of Father Reilly.

Yeah! It really does seem like they were setting up his very own Alfred throughout the movie weren't they? Nice. I never really looked at that character in that way. Totally agree about Blake working at Wayne Manor too.

I really like your concept too titansupes. Seems really fitting.

Father Reilly was stubborn but I'd like to think that Blake inspires him and those kids to hope for something better. That scene where Blake just ignores him about how there's no place to hide from a bomb....Blake just keeps going. It's that kind of attitude that made me buy into him being Bruce's successor even more.

I found another What If pitch for a TDK video. Check it out if you have an hour to spare.

Third guys pitch is so far removed from TDKR that I can't even consider it. Even for an entirely different idea for a sequel to TDK. Lex actually kills Bruce? Having Lex as the main villain is too left field; where it wouldn't feel like a natural progression, whereas Bane, Talia and the LOS coming back from Begins did feel like a natural progression.

The second guys pitch was the best, because it does have a lot of the same plot points and structure from TDKR. I'm just glad fanboys don't actually make these films, lol.
