Sam Raimi is rad...if he wants Venom dead at the end of the movie, then that is a smart idea...could you think of a movie that will be two hours with Venom as a villain? Besides the fact that Venom wants Spidey dead, and that's all, how else could he be a good villain for a movie? He has no other important roles...he's not trying to steal money for his daughter, he's not trying to re-create a fusion machine, he's not trying to keep OsCorp or anything like that...I thought he should live, but if Carnage never makes it to a Spider-Man movie, then Venom will be useless for anyother storyline.
Seriously? You couldn't figure out a way to make Venom a bad guy for two hours?
Heck, I would have developed him over two movies. In this one, I would have had GG2 and Lizard be the baddies, and finish up the Villian saga as well as set up why Eddie Brock hates Spider-man. I would show how the suit also corrupts Peter, and at the end of the movie have Peter rid himself of the suit and find Brock.
For the next movie, I would introduce Sandman, and begin to play out his role, but also as Spidey's trying to fight him, strange things are happening to him. He finds threatening notes webbed to where he stored his clothes on a rooftop. Threatening phone calls, a stranger bumps into him in the street, shoving a note into Peter's pocket, but when Peter turns to see who it was, he's gone, and he picks up the note, which reads
I can find you anywhere. Peter becomes nervous, wondering why his Spider sence didn't warn him.
For the first thirty minutes of the movie, we wouldn't see Venom. It would be the Jaws effect. Build a sort of Horror around him, even though you never see him. Have Spidey be having some troubble with two villians (maybe Mysterio and Rhino or something like that) and when he gets knocked out, he wakes up to find them both webbed up with a note reading
You're mine, and no one else ala TAS style.
Eventually, Eddie Brock would show himself, scraing MJ in their apartment, then showing up at Aunt May's and helping her around the house, simply to taunt Peter. Eddie tells Peter that no one is safe, until he gets his fight.
Eventually, Peter would go out into the city, and begin to swing around, in hopes to Draw Venom out. When Venom finally emerges, he tells Spidey tauntingly that he had been following Peter for hours, just to see him search for him futiley. They fight, and Spider-man realizes how Outmatched he is, he runs.
Peter is nervous and scared, the next day, he finds that a tree had fallen down in Aunt May's yard, narrowly missing her house. As Peter inspects the damage, Brock walks up offering to help, but whispers in his ear "your loved ones will die unless you give me my battle. Tonight the construction site, don't be late."
Peter would wonder who can help him and how, but realizes that he has to do it alone. When they meet up, Sandman also shows (I haven't addressed his story, but we would be developing that throughout the movie as well) And it would be a huge Battle.
You could end it easily, ala TAS style with the Rocket, Comic style where Spidey gets the Symbiote to try and leave Brock because it still "loves" Peter, or where Pete Forces the Symbiote to loose too much of itself using up it's webbing ect...ect...
Now, I've just thought that up off the top of my head. If I really wanted to, I could write up a whole script with Venom as the main baddie. It would be easy to fill a movie with Venom, saying he's not interesting enough is simply laziness.
