The Xbox One - Part 6

I thought that was already out. There was also a Madden one this month, too, if I'm not mistaken.

So we got external drive support. Media playback off usb devices and DLNA and pre-order/pre-load digital coming next month. Anything major left besides BC (which probably wont happen)?

The pre-ordering and pre-loading thing is company-by-company, so making it standard across the board may be big for some people. I can't think of anything else, though, but I didn't particularly care about most of those features myself.

Actually, at this point, aside from lack of demand, I see no reason why they wouldn't add CD support.

wait.......I thought the X1 already supports CDs??

People got a brand new game and Kinect in the Titan Fall for free earlier this year and that did diddly squat to change sales. Trust and believe that Titan Fall had more push, marketing and financial investment by MS than Sunset Overdrive will. That's a game that caters to the Xbox audience, not SO. The game will do fine, but bundling it with the console isn't going to lead to MS finally overtaking sales for the month. A choice between free SO, or $10 off of Destiny and a month of Plus, I think the majority will go with the latter. Besides there is more to a console purchasing decision than simply the game that is packed in. Neither of these is what will sway people

well fine. Ps4 will win september but like phil spencer said, the battle matters most in the 4th quarter. and i still think the xbone will win this holiday season.

by the way, i'm pretty sure I heard the titanfall bundle selling a million units the first week - I don't see how those types of sales are considered "diddly squat."

I find it ridiculous that it doesn't support something that it can clearly and easily run, when it has a disc drive.

Especially when people make fun of it, when it can clearly run it. Something I hated about the Wii and DVDs. It has the drives to run it, I have no idea why Nintendo didn't release a patch for it? But of course, you could get DVDs to run easily if you hacked it: ridiculous.

Truth be told, I don't really get the Sunset Overdrive bundle. That seems a bit... random to me.

I understand they can't bundle Destiny, since Sony is already doing that, and relations between Microsoft and Bungie are kind of awkward, but it still seems like an odd choice.

what do you mean they can't? they need to get permission from bungie to bundle a game they're making for their console?

and bungie already came out saying they don't favor sony or microsoft and have good relations with them both equally.

I wonder if a Wii U could run a blu-ray. They use a proprietary blu-ray-like optical drive.

But then they would be circumventing Sony's patent, and that could get them into hot legal water.

the wii u has a blu ray drive but doesn't use the blu ray format? where's the logic in that?

Well, you can't exactly bundle a game without consulting the developer. There is a level of close cooperation required. They do get a percentage I believe.

Bungie saying they have close relations to Microsoft is just them saying they have a working relationship. They left Microsoft for a reason. The Destiny bundle to me clearly signals a closer relationship with Sony. Though Sony could just have offered them a **** load of cash, or preferential treatment.

I dunno? The Wii U happens to be the hardest console to ever be hacked. You can do very few things, but not like you could with the Wii.

There's two reasons; one being piracy. Proprietary optical discs make piracy much more difficult. That's why the Gamecube had those stupid small game discs.

Also, if the Wii U incorporated a conventional Blu ray drive, they would have to pay Sony – one of their main competitors, and longtime enemies – royalties on every Wii U they sold.

well, the fact that the bundle is $450 instead of $400 just tells me that the game isn't free in the bundle. I don't get why they would get a percentage in a situation like that.

and yeah, it's likely Sony paid destiny a certain amount which is a first for them; they lost exclusive after exclusive last generation and didn't think for a moment it would be important to pay one or two developers to keep some. however, i'm pretty sure the exclusive DLC is also timed.

sony's not the only one who owns the patent to blu ray. and microsoft - sony's more direct opponent, put blu ray in the xbone.

what gives you the idea sony & nintendo hate each other? wasn't the first playstation the result of sony wanting to try things out for themselves after helping nintendo out here and there?

Because, they're using Bungie's IP to move their consoles. Though I imagine the business deal would vary a lot depending on the game, and the relationship.

Bungie and Sony know how much Destiny is worth. Bungie's name alone sells any game they make. Bungie wouldn't accept the 400 dollar deal.

By comparison, Sunset Overdrive is lucky just to get bundled. Hence the price. But Microsoft needs all the franchises it can get and worked closely with the developers, so they probably had an agreeable... agreement.
