The Xbox One - Part 6

The Wii's successor is already out ;)

But yeah, I don't know how it'll turn out. They've mentioned that the next set of consoles will have an OS based on the Wii U, with one reason being to carry over games easier this time, but I wouldn't be surprised if that small upgrade isn't gone.

Like most people I don't know the difference between a Wii and a Wii U. :cwink:

But seriously, they need to tie the games you buy to an account. That would be a start.

They actually are tied to an account. Common, and easy to understand, misconception about their current online structure. Your Nintendo ID is your account, and it does keep track of all of your purchases and everything. It's just, stupidly, tied to a single hardware (or potentially two, if you own both a U and a 3DS). You can unlock this account, but you have to, stupidly, go through a Ninty rep to actually do this.

So, yeah, it's an account, but just a hidden one (stupidly).

why in the hell would microsoft want to keep it to themselves? having xbone be backwards compatible would be a major MAJOR advantage it would have had over the ps4. sheesh.

For several reasons. Back when the Xbox division was run by complete ass clowns, they didn't care about adding in backwards compatibility because they really didn't view the Xbox One as a video game console. To quote Don Mattrick "If you're backwards compatible, you're really backwards." I think that backwards compatibility would have been included if Phil Spencer were in charge of the division when it was in the thinking stages.

Yeah the big games will get remastered but they don't need to do remasters in order to re-sell the game. As long as they can sell it to you digitally and that being the only way to get access to it on the new system, there is incentive to keep B/C out

Of course, another reason I believe is that they and other companies have seen a lot of profit via remasters. It's not a leap at all to think BC would cut into those projects. That's the main reason I'm skeptical that we'll really ever get full BC patched in. Too much easy money to be made with remaster.

But, there's really no reason why they would make that a feature, since they want to sell those games to you again.

But between the remasters, digital sales and streaming, that ain't happening. .

And you're right, they aren't going to remaster everything, but they're still looking to sell you those franchises you mentioned, so unless they are going to do selective BC, then I could easily see the thought that BC would cut into potential sales of those titles.

It might still boost sales, but it's not a game changer. Plus, they want to make money on all those easy HD rereleases. I think Nintendo set the new standard. They've sold some poor sucker Mario World four times (SNES, GBA, Wii, Wii U).

There you go :)

There you go :)

There you go :)

thank you, I really do appreciate you taking the time to lay that all out for me. Some people on other forums can be ****in *******s about everything.

Anyways I recall someone a few pages back saying that there's no reason BC and remasters can't coexist, and I both agree and disagree with that. If you think about it last gen, the first batch of Ps3 owners had BC, and then a few years down the line they started having remastered ps2/(1?) games. The only one of those I ever bought, was Tekken Tag, even though I have the Ps2 version ever since I had my Ps2 when I was like 9 or 10, for one of those birthdays lol.

But anyways, the only purpose I guess it serves for me now is receiving trophies. I have only one platinum and that's Me3 but I wanna platinum TTTHD and get another one. Working on Uncharted 2 now.

but yeah my point being, it's easy for BC and remasters to coexist, if it offers something with it for incentive to purchase again

Most remasters don't offer anything, though. I mean, okay, trophies and achievements, but I think that's mostly something only a small subset of people really care about. The hardcore fans will rebuy the games again, sure, but you want those remasters to reach a broader audience than that. And I have no problems imagining the average person passing over a remaster because they can just pop in their original PS3 copy of The Last of Us.

I won't say that it was the only, or main, reason BC was taken out, but I definitely feel like it was a factor considering how HD remasters became so popular late last gen.

:csad: i care

well like I said, I have the old fat Ps3 that plays Ps2 and if you put those gamers in perspective and in line with all the HD remasters that the Ps3 got, it's them both coexisting. But the only one I ever bought was Tekken Tag HD.

Well, yeah, they literally can co-exist. That's just a fact. We're talking figuratively. The original copy of games aren't going to explode or something when a HD remaster is released.

Liar.

I don't really care for remasters, but collections are great if you ask me.

Who here who never had a PS3, but bought a PS4 wouldn't pick up an Uncharted collection?

Or in this case, the Halo collection.

You actually get your money's worth. As opposed to paying full price for an old game.

Once they're both at about 20 bucks, I will pick up Tomb Raider and Last of Us remastered.

One thing iv learned over my time spent gaming, is if I like a game enough, ill buy multiple copies of it over the course of a generation. Metal Gear, Prince of Persia, Splinter Cell, Resident Evil, Hitman, all are series where iv purchased the same games multiple time over. Either in new packages or HD versions or ports. I don't see that changing any time soon for me. So I really have no issues with remasters or collections.

I have no issues with them, either, but I don't buy them really. I still have my PS2 Slim that functions, so I have access to the games. They don't look particularly good on my HDTV, admittedly, but I still find them playable. The only HD remasters I have of games I already own are Metal Gear Solid 2 & 3 (but I got that package purely for Peace Walker) and Wind Waker HD (it came with my Wii U).

Once I move on from a console, I typically don't like looking back. I still have my 360 plugged in next to my PS4 and X1 and im impatiently waiting for the day when I can finally unplug it for good.

I have a damn Nintendo next to my Wii U.

Course, with Microsoft I generally don't have that issue. I'm surprised this 360 I have now is still working.

Haha nice. Iv still got an SNES in my closest and still own an N64...somewhere.

I do actually still have my Gamecube plugged in though. Its got a nice thick layer of dust over the top of it, but its still plugged in. Altho one the REmastered REmake comes out, ill finally retire that thing for good.

Liar.

yeah man I was talkin figuratively too! I essentially bought the tekken tag game twice since I have it on Ps2 and bought the HD version when it came out on Ps3! obviously the obsolete versions aren't going to go up in sales when remasters come out, they're probably just there to boost sales

I totally forgot that I also downloaded Beyond Good & Evil HD on the 360 even though I still had my original PS2 copy. Rare instant when a less popular game got a remaster, and I bought it as a show of support for a sequel. I did replay it, though.

I thought the HD remasters for the PS2 games served a purpose. Those games look like crap on an HDTV bc they were not made for this technology. I can also see the trophy argument. Remasters of PS3 games though? Those are already HD. While going for, 720 to 1080p does improve visuals, its unnecessary. And those games already have trophies. I feel they are largely redundant, but if they are making money, they will continue to exist

I dunno.. The Last of Us Remastered is pretty darn impressive. If other devs put the heart in their remastered games as ND did.. If buy all of 'EM.
