The consensus is that the noise is a coil whine which occurs when a lower level of power is being drawn from the console.

Users report that plugging in a Kinect sensor alleviates the noise (since the console is then drawing extra power for the device).

It also explains the recent number of people reporting the issue in recent weeks - the fact that some Xbox One consoles have this problem is being highlighted as a result of Kinect-less consoles going on sale.


Although mine sounds more like an old hard drive.

well, I hope I don't run into that problem myself. but I did get a 4 year warranty on it, so I guess I'm covered.

my only worry/issue is that I'll have trouble replacing my CoD console with another CoD console, sit it is a limited edition and the supply won't be as plentiful as the standard model.

hopefully, if I ever need to replace my console, by then, the standard black model will come with a 1TB drive. so if I can't replace my CoD console with another one, I'd just have to make do with a standard black 1TB unit.

but, again, hope that never happens.

I actually sold my PS4 for 350... Allowed me to et Sunset, CoD, Halo, ACU and DAI.. Plus have some left over. Maybe I'll get s other one when Uncharted bundle comes out.. Until then.. No big loss for me.

yeah.....I kind of feel the same way with the PS4. looking back on my gaming experience this year, I feel like I wouldn't have missed out on much if I hadn't got a PS4 last Xmas.

I probably should have waited this year instead before buying a new gen console, and then I'd probably go with the X1 over the PS4 ( given their current features and conditions ).

that being said, the circumstances that led to my being able to get an X1 now were kind of unique and "fortuitous." One "lucky" thing happened, and that sort of got the ball rolling. then everything else just started falling in place. from MS adding the features that I want to the current deals and price cuts.

for me, it was Ps4, because i've been playing playstation games ever since i was a child. that was the main thing there.

but i've realized now there's far more to making the right choices in gaming besides tradition.

I love buying new consoles. it's prob why my current ps4 and X1 won't be my last. I'm sure I'll get a new version of both at some point. Hell I almost got that white SO Xbox.

I don't want to drag this out, since I'm sure people are getting tired of me asking, but can people hear their Xbox One's clearly from 6 feet away?

Is it supposed to be louder than the 360 Slim?

I am trying to watch a Blu Ray on it. Fine player, but I can hear it, sitting about 8 feet away.

I can't hear my 360 from that distance playing a DVD.

so far, my X1 has been fairly quiet. though I have yet to play a game or watch a movie.

there's a faint "hum" to it that you can hear, but that sounds normal. it's actually quieter than my PS4, I believe. and I thought my PS4 was fairly quiet.

it certainly isn't as loud as my Elite 360 was. THAT was loud.......lol.

The 360s are definitely the loudest system I've ever owned. Any game I was playing continuously I had to install, cause I hated hearing that disc spin. Way too loud.

My PS4 without a disc was dead silent. I was rather impressed by it.

I don't really mind the fan noise (though I suspect that it's unusual), but the... hard drive struggling noise, that really, really bugs me.

It's also never quiet. I have seen videos of the early Xbox One's that were virtually silent when left idle. This thing always sounds like it's doing something.

Season 1 disc is 20 bucks.. Id say buy that. Free version is only decent if you want to try it out. I'm kind of pissed that I paid 40 dollars for it DIGITALLY for everything and they release a disc version for 20 dollars cheaper. I'm not getting it playing season 2 at all until it hits disc.

...that was uncalled for. i've come to the conclusion that i'm not a fanboy, i just like playstation games more, and that's why i favor that platform. i still think xbox is dope. but if favoring one platform over the other automatically makes one a fanboy, then they needed to be given much more credit.

...that was uncalled for. i've come to the conclusion that i'm not a fanboy, i just like playstation games more, and that's why i favor that platform. i still think xbox is dope. but if favoring one platform over the other automatically makes one a fanboy, then they needed to be given much more credit.

and bro, there isn't really a positive to the word fanboy lol. i thought a general description of one would be kind of like an election campaign. one party will constantly just talk smack about the opposition, not admit or refuse to see any positive in them, and only praise what they themselves offer.

i overall like playstation more than xbox and to me it's always been the better gaming platform, but it has its weaknesses, xbox has advantages to it, and you can't go wrong if you choose either platform. but i wouldn't want to own both. especially since 70% of software exists on both, and the hardware ain't cheap.
