The Xbox One - Part 8

I don't know why they would talk you out of a sealed game. If you grab a game from the wall and place it on the counter, then they go to the drawer to grab the "guts" from that game, then that means theyre going to have to take another new game, open it, remove the disc then place it on the wall. All that does is create more work for them, so why they would do that is odd. GS employees have enough bs work they have to do, so adding more to that pile isn't something anyone that works in that store would want to do.

I don't really know, but whenever I come in and ask for a game, before I began specifying, they pretty much always tried to give me an open copy. And have, even after specifying, tried to tell me not to worry about it. I don't know why, that's just how they do it.

Yea thats just dumb on that particular employees part. Thats just adding to the massive workload they already have.

one time I shopped at a local used game store. I bought a new game from them where they have the case on the shelf that says "display only." I was expecting them to pull out an unsealed disc and put it in the case. but, the case was indeed display only and they actually took out a sealed copy from their drawer.

that should be Gamestop's policy, too.

with that being said, as I mentioned above, my local Gamestop ( and its employees ) is pretty good and I've never had a real issue with them.

It's just such a bad practice, especially when I can get a full refund on used games. So basically, I'm being charged full price for a game that I can't take back. But if it was used, not only could I return it, but I saved $5. It's pretty ****ed up, if you ask me.

Do you know how much more inventory GS deals with compared to a local place? Its not even f'ing close. Its FAR more cost effective for them to just gut a new copy and place that case on the shelf than to create blank cases and "display only" sleeves for said case.

I agree I think that'd be a better policy, but 1, its not cost effective and 2 it just creates more work for the employee who is already overworked and underpaid.

true.

but to be fair, this local store isn't exactly a small "mom and pop" shop, either. it's a big store with a pretty huge inventory. Have you heard of Vintage Stock?

well, that makes it more attractive for you to buy used. which is exactly what they want.

I remember many years ago, Electronic Boutique ( before it was acquired by Gamestop ) used to have a fairly liberal return policy with new games. can't remember how many days they gave you, but they were one of the few retailers to let you return an opened game for a full refund.

GS would still do that if it weren't for the people taking advantage of that. Their used policy is still treated like a "rental" policy. Its also why the games on the wall are empty. If they weren't people would walk off with them all the time.

I think the opened new items should fall under the same return policy as the used products. I guess the issue you run into there is so many of these games are coming with download codes for extra items and there'd be no way to verify if that were used by the customer you just sold the game to.

yeah. that is true.

although, recently, didn't GS say they were open to the idea of trading in "used DLC?"

wonder how that system would work.........

In the end GameStop is a really ****** company.. But it's not the fault of the employees. More so if they're minimum wage Game Advisors. I see a lot of threads online complaining about the company and most of the time they're justified but when people start saying "I then told that employee what's what!" That's what annoyed me.

It's not the employees fault. Most of the time they're following company policy. The lowly GA's already have it hard enough with preorder and Game Informer Power Up quota's.. Now add on that stupid credit card (also that little survey on your slip? If they don't get three a day they have to have a store coaching) that they're doing a LOT of work for.. Nothing. Quite often if said employees don't meet their quota GS either requests their hours be cut until they're improved (a practice I'll never understand) or request their termination.

So if you're ever in a GS and something pisses you off.. Unless the person behind the desk is making up his or her own policy.. Try not to take it out on them. If you have an issue.. Call corporate.

^^ well said.

unless an employee is totally rude or unprofessional to you, you should never take out your frustration/anger at company policy on the employee. as you said, most of them are just usually doing their job, trying to meet quotas, etc.

that's why, at GS or any other store, when they try to upsell me on subscriptions, cards, etc., I just politely decline and say "No Thanks."

Unfortunately most large companies are like that. The top mgmt is just so far out of touch with the ground level stores, but of the companies Iv worked for, they seem to be the furthest removed.

You've obviously never worked for the dying, yet somehow still clinging to a sliver of life, Sears.

Obviously there is... command responsibility, but the jackass telling me an opened game is the same as an unopened game knew better. I've heard other stories of similar deceptive behavior from "game advisors".

Look, if the store computer won't let you give me more than 40 bucks for Xenoblade Chronicles, that's one thing. But if the employee deliberately lies to me, then he's just being a ****.

Or you know, don't work there. Quite frankly the more I hear about Gamestop, the more I think it closing would be best for everyone. Maybe a new franchise with less asinine policies will pop up. Or lack of sales and bad reputation will cause them to change some policies.

It's easy to say do t work there if you're I have a job.. I've been unemployed.. It's not easy finding a job, more so a full time one.

Who here hasn't been unemployed? But it's not like Gamestop is the only factory in town that hires people.

This generation needs to learn to unionize.

Unionize? lol I will never work under the scummy Union label again. ******** dues, ******** politics (vote Democrat or else!) Keeping worthless employees around just because of tenure or some other BS reason. I'd hate to think about a retail Union.. Ugh..I fully believe at one time they were for the little guy. Now they're just as crooked as anyone else in the corporate ladder.

No offense to any Union member or anything..obviously. I really didn't intend to derail, lol.

Thankfully I haven't worked retail since college and the only company I was ever employed for was Babies/Kids-R-Us. Luckily I never had any issues with them and they were always good me. From all Ive heard, I could never work for a place like GS

The company used to be awesome too. I worked for EB when he two were seperate then I moved to the new GS after they merged. I had a blast in the companies early years..but they literally got rid of everyone that was awesome (upper management) and replaced them with drones. That's when I left.

so, at this stage of the year, do you think there's still a chance they'll announce a standard 1tb model in time for Christmas?

or would they have already announced it by now?

it would have already been announced by now. The only other X1 SKUs one could expect to see, at least in NA are holiday bundles and those will likely just be the standard system + 1-2 games

ah. :(

well, I'll try to hold out as long as possible.

but, if there are good BF deals, or another Free Game promo, and a good deal on an external drive, then I think I'll just get the 500gb model + a 2tb drive.

Unless you really don't play it much you'll fill up the 1TB too before the gen is out so what's the difference? Lol. I have actually hardly played my X1 due to sudden time constraints but just from 2 bought games and 2 games that came with my console plus all the GWG freebies I'm making fast progress to filling it up. Can't imagine how fast it's going to disappear for a regular gamer (like I was this time last year :csad:),and especially anyone who buys any other content aside from games.

EA Access is going to eat up a LOT of space for me. I mean if Plants Vs Zombies is a sign of how much better the service will get I'm gonna need at least 4.. Probably get 2 of them.
