Yea I don't understand why MS doesn't allow the system to have a swappable internal HDD, even tho they do allow the more consumer friendly option of external HDDs. Clearly there is something to the 500 gigs tho and it has to be price, because Sony is doing the same thing with the size.
The 500 GB drive was so ubiquitous at the time, with bulk discounts they probably paid next to nothing for them.
Which really makes it seem even more stupid, since for Microsoft the cost increase for a 1 TB HDD would be less than 20 dollars.
well, Sony packed the PS4 with a 500GB drive, but they let you swap it out.
granted, plugging in a USB drive is much easier, faster, and more convenient, but it still would have been nice to get the option to upgrade the drive.
and as discussed here before, the irreplaceable drive probably had something to do with the initial DRM stuff. they prob didn't want the end user "messing" with the storage. remember, at launch, you couldn't even check how much space was on your hdd, right? They wanted the "system" to handle that for the user.
and the more I think about it, the more I really want to get an X1 with a 1TB drive instead.
as much as I want to get one in time for the Holidays, if a standard 1TB isn't available, I think I'm just going to sit it out and wait. that's the prudent thing to do.
cuz, with a 1TB model, I wouldn't even need to worry about the hdd being irreplaceable, because that 1TB would be more than enough space for my gaming needs.
plus, getting a 1TB model out of the box means I won't have to buy an external drive. if I ever need to, that will be down the line ( and the drives will be cheaper ).
and with the CoD edition bundle coming out in just a few weeks, it just feels like, at any moment, they could announce a standard 1TB model. it just feels like that's something we could be seeing in a few months from now.
