The Xbox One

EA touted how powerful "cloud computing" made the recent Sim City possible.

I think cloud services are useful for renting games. But buying expensive games and getting tied up in that troubles me.

This maneuver irritates me.

I started the afternoon on an excited buzz for the console, but, now, I am contemplating jumping over to Sony, if they do not adopt this greedy-ass policy.

Nothing is confirmed.

I believe Sony did confirm that used games can be played.

I believe that if you have to pay a fee, like with Xbox One, is totally up in the air. Whatever the catch is, of playing used games on the PS4 is, we don't know yet.

Xbox One to Become More Powerful Over Time via Cloud Computing

If this can be done from the cloud then I'm sure Sony can also take advantage of it but it would be great for consoles in terms of keeping up with pcs in a few years time.

That makes it sound like The Machine from Person of Interest. Gathering information, learning and evolving from all of the data and information it's gathering from watching me and my play sessions.

Kinda creepy.

If they want to leave Microsoft in the dust, Sony should definitely allow used games and no fees.

This is seriously tanking. Like this is the ball dropped, smashed, and the pieces down the toilet. From our perspective, that is. There's a big audience that will eat this TV stuff up and the Call of Duty and FIFA loyalty will likely secure it sales dominance once more, but a system reveal that talked about TV for roughly 3/4 of the show?

Then a stream of terrible 'oh yeah' announcements afterwards attacking pre-owned games, requiring Kinect and letting slip that only one of the regions on the planet will support the thing they talked for so goddamn long about out of the box.

This is a few crabs short of a disaster.

Yeah they can both play used games but with XBox 1 there is a catch of having to pay an install fee. I'm not convinved Sony aren't doing something similar What was that massive pause for from the Sony guy when asked about used games? There will be some catch or he would have been able to answer that question easily without consulting someone else.

You cant return a game if its busted. What retailer allows you to return a game once its open? Almost every single one I know only allows exchange for the identical product when it comes to media.

Whats the point of owning a disc? The HDD is large but eventually it will reach a point where it fills up. You will need the disc to reinstall the game if you delete it to make room for new content. If you get a new system or want to use the game on a new system, you will need the disc to install it elsewhere

Amazon allows returns, with cash back, for already games opened.

I remember reading how "angry" gamers were returning copies of Mass Effect 3 to amazon after being "offended" by the ending. There was one person who returned Bioshock Infinite because his religious beliefs didn't allow him to get past the baptism sequence at the beginning of the game.

I'd imagine all those cases would be different with an Xbox One.

If they want to leave Microsoft in the dust, Sony should definitely allow used games and no fees.

Yeah, could go both ways. Either this gives Sony an open lane to do the same and not get the knock since Microsoft is doing the same. Or, they could go for it and say no fee.

I think going the no fee would be the smart move, seeing as how they're the ones fighting the uphill battle to win back consumers.

Xbox One: live TV available in US only at launch, requires separate device

“Live TV will require a supported receiver device with HDMI output,” which is sold separately.
so you cant even do any of that cool stuff right out of the box? That was the most impressive feature! It sucks that you have to pay for another device to even take advantage of this

.
Their official stance is that they do not accept returns on open software. The ME3 seemed more like a special case bc of all the controversy. The average person cant just buy any game off Amazon, play it and then return. Ive never heard anything about Bioshock and Amazon accepting returns but if some one guy claimed he did it, then that again sounds like a special case and I question if that indeed happened.

Yeap! :woot:

:csad:

I was interested in the X1 during the event..But all this news coming out confirming things has me bummed out,I was really rooting for MS/X1 But this used game blocking BS ruined everything.

I might get interested again after E3 But right now it seems I'll be choosing PS4!

umm what I saw of gameinformer and other gamer news sites that hasn't been fully explained yet. they just said that they'd get back with them with an answer some time later this year and they won't put the gamer in a bad position. But it still has yet to be fully answered

Yeah, better to be the 2nd guy to confirm this kind of policy than the 1st. Are Sony fighting an uphill battle? They've kind of caught up by now haven't they?

But this isn't a decision where they win by not having a fee, similarly to not charging for Live. Both instances they are winning by losing money, which is all they ever wanted in the 1st place. Not charging install fees or Live fees is a roundabout way of competing on price. And any company can choose to voluntarily deny itself revenue to compete. Far more effective, as they've experienced 1st hand, is to compete with great exclusives which show them to be superior and make them money at the same time.

I didn't watch the event, but I have read you guys responses for the most part, and have a pretty good understanding. It sounds like you guys enjoyed the first half with all of the multimedia stuff, but it continued to focus on that, and sports, and people seemed to tire of the second half. However it's the stuff that's not getting air time, reported after the show, that's really turning people off. My guess, those who just watched the event, and aren't following the after reporting are still happy with the conference overall, everyone else seems iffy.

I guess it's up to E3 now. Sony didn't explain quite enough about the machine, and showed a lot of gaming. Leaving people wanting more info. However if they do nothing but show off the system during E3 they could have a bad show. MS showed off a lot of features, but not much gaming. Showing a lot of games during E3 could make for a good show since they got the system mostly out of the way. However they also left a lot unanswered. If they don't clear some of this up, and do repeats from previous years of Kinect heavy, family friendly shows, it could be a turn off as well.

I'm incredibly unimpressed by the X-Box One. It feels so gimmicky. Say what you want about Sony, but at least the core function of the Playstation is still to play video games. I have a computer to be a computer. I have a TV to be a TV, a cellphone to be a cellphone. Microsoft needs to stop with the gimmicks and unleash a quality gaming system that is not so reliant on gimmicks. PS4 still has a long way to go to sell me (as it stands right now, I'm waiting for a substantial price drop), but I at least have the desire to buy it. I cannot say the same for X-Box One.

Microsoft seems to have bought in -hook, line and sinker- to these publishers harping on about the phantom threat of used games. I didn't have any interest in the new Xbox to begin with, this news just confirms the bad trends that video game companies are adopting.

I'll stick to the PC and WiiU. Here's hoping for another video game crash that resets the industry.

Say what?,So now MS want people to pay even more for the cool features?,Fu** that!

you know Microsoft I keep trying to defend you and you go and keep doing stupid sh**

As for the system itself. I'm too attached to Sony exclusives right now to even contemplate switching. If Xbox One has some awesome exclusive that's a must have, I might pick one up down the road. However the news coming out now is making that less, and less likely.

Used games blocked + fee to use them is a huge turn off. I use selling my old games to help pay for new ones from time to time. Gaming isn't the only hobby I have that requires money. This also means simply loaning a friend a game, or renting a game becomes more expensive. We're not even sure what the fee is yet. People in here are saying it's $10, but this fee is esentially "buying" the game. It said after you pay the fee, you own the game now and can install it anytime you want. The fee could very well be full game price, or close to it, $30-60. It will hurt companies beyond Gamestop.

Kinect required. Kinect really doesn't appeal to me, but this was expected, so it's not a plus or minus. The upside of this being that Kinect functionality can be fully exploited now, since it's manditory. The downside being if you don't want a camera always watching you, and that Kinect's not free to make...it will probably drive up the console's cost.

The multimedia functions sound great from reading you guys responses. I expect Sony to reveal more multmedia functions as well though, but atm it sounds like MS is trumping them in that department.

Even if the console itself isn't always internet required. The cloud gaming stuff could leave it to the developers to still make some games require constant internet connection to function.

The mandatory harddrive installs is a pro and con as well. It could make games play better. On the other hand I forsee a lot of deleting old games to install new ones. This system really reminds me of how PC games function (minus putting in a serial code, plus an extra fee). Which makes sense given Windows 8 being on it.

I guess overall, this event more or less is a non event for me. It's nice to hear it's similar to PS4 in power. It means nextgen gaming won't be held back by one or the other. Game developers will be able to go all out. Though I think MS still needs to go into a bit more detail on hardware, like what type of RAM, MB type, ect. On the other hand none of this news pushed Xbox One any closer to must buy status, let alone buy status. If anything, some of the news pushed me further away. I'm also probably the only person here not big on the name One, but that's a non issue as well.

Well, you need a cable box to plug into the X1 in order for the tv stuff to work.

So I can connect it to my cable box receiver?,I thought a device on it's own like a X1 branded accessory!

I read that as, your cable box needs to be through a supported provider (comcast, etc...) and needs an HDMI out. I don't think there's an additional piece of hardware.

I just remembered that X1 will have 15 new exclusive games with 8 being new franchises..But then I realized most of them will likely be Kinect games!:(

I don't think it's fair to call it a gimmick. The Xbox One is genuinely connecting all of it into one seamless experience. A gimmick would have been something similar to Apple's iLife where everything looks the same and has a couple universal features amongst ONLY Apple Products that aren't even needed for anything truly functional.

The annoying thing was that the connectedness of the products took center stage and they BARELY looked at any gameplay, or specs. The specs were on screen for 3 seconds and they weren't even detailed. It's like they went "hmm... Sony released gameplay footage, and specs but no look at software or the console? Let's do the opposite so we don't look like we're trying to copy them."

And then all the stuff they KNEW they would get **** for they told reporters after the fact (like not being backwards compatible or the ******** with used games).

At least you don't need to always be online. The Kinnect always being connected and on isn't a big deal to me. Who the hell cares. You could just as easily stick to the controller.

Speaking of controller, that is a sexy redesign of the controller. Friggen gorgeous.
