The Xbox One

Yeah blocking used games is just dumb. It's not just used games from Gamestop, its renting games, gamefly, borrowing from friends

Yea i agree, thats just a terrible, horrible idea. Games are still physical, most people still purchase physical copies and loaning them to your friends is still common. Not to mention, like you said, red box and game fly etc.

so MS is blocking used games??

did Sony specifically say that PS4 won't block used games?

that's a game changer for me.

also, did they say anything about BC with 360 games?

The Kinect being integral is a huge minus for me and is really swaying me over to the PS4 at the moment.

Yeah, that doesn't interest me in the slightest either, but I was more referring to how games games obviously come second on this thing.

Totally underwhelming reveal, Sony really put Microsoft to shame. Both company's messages are loud and clear:

Microsoft said:
Do you like Skype, NFL, television, and Kinect? We got that!

Sony said:
Yo. VIDEO GAMES, son.

So what happens if my Xbox dies and I have to buy a new one...does that mean all my games will be unplayable because the new box considers them "used"?

I wonder how long till an Xbox Won meme starts taking off

The tv switching and tv guide stuff looked very good but it looks like it will require cable in order to work. Considering I don't have cable nor plan to subscribe to any provider, I wouldn't be able to take advantage of that. Straight OTA HD and internet for me when it comes to tv

That's exactly how I felt.

I love the X1's features But I really appreciate thePS4's"All Pro-Games/Gamers/Game Developers/Game Features"attitude and that 's a big PLUS for me towards possibly getting a PS4!

They did say (before the reveal) that they'd save the games for E3 and they also announced 15 exclusives for One's first year with 8 being new IPs. I'm not worried.

As for not being able to play used games (or at least having to pay a fee to do so)...I don't mind it. I always buy my games new and I always keep them. I definitely understand why it's a problem though. Especially in the US where the used games market is bigger.

Your Xbox 360 games, physical or digital, won’t be making the leap to Microsoft’s next-gen console.

source:GI
both sony and now Nintendo earned a new audience/ costumers with that part. then aain them doin hd version of Games seems to be where they are headed so it's not that surprising.

No. The article said that they link to your account.

If true, I'll be waiting until Microsoft learns its folly. This has always been the worst way thought up to deal with the used games market.

It's really a question of how big the "used fee" is. Get one copy and pass it around to all your friends who only pay like $10 or whatever to install it.

I'm going to wait til Microsoft explains themselves in the coming days, and/or at E3. Blocking used games, rentals and backwards compatibility are straight-up no sale for me. I've been Xbox all through my console life, but if they take *this* route, I'm jumping ship to PS4 in a heartbeat.

Am I the only one who thought the announcement of the Halo TV Show was completely irrelevant? I like Halo and I'm looking forward to this show, but it had absolutely nothing to do with the new Xbox. Should of had the announcement at the Halo presentation at Comic Con or something.

We did it! #XboxReveal Thanks to all for the support, great reading reactions on Twitter. Couple weeks to E3 #allaboutthegames

Wired asked Microsoft if installation would be mandatory. “On the new Xbox, all game discs are installed to the HDD to play,” the company responded in an emailed statement. Sounds mandatory to us.

What follows naturally from this is that each disc would have to be tied to a unique Xbox Live account, else you could take a single disc and pass it between everyone you know and copy the game over and over. Since this is clearly not going to happen, each disc must then only install for a single owner.

Microsoft did say that if a disc was used with a second account, that owner would be given the option to pay a fee and install the game from the disc, which would then mean that the new account would also own the game and could play it without the disc.

But what if a second person simply wanted to put the disc in and play the game without installing – and without paying extra? In other words, what happens to our traditional concept of a “used game”? This is a question for which Microsoft did not yet have an answer, and is surely something that game buyers (as well as renters and lenders) will want to know.

That sounds...weird.

No wonder Microsoft didn't bring it up on stage.

Yea and thats why im really looking forward to E3. Sony and MS really need to show why i need to stop playing my PS3 and 360 and drop another 400 bux to jump to one of these next gen systems. I mean im still wowed by whats on the 360 and PS3. I mean have ya seen GTA V and the Last of Us?

Yep agreed

It seemed like they wanted to let people know that Halo is still important, but they have nothing to show for Halo 5.

so no BC and no used games..........

the BC doesn't really bother me. but the no used games part does.

It's really a question of how big the "used fee" is.

They're going to have control over that price, which will be undoubtedly close to the current retail price to produce comparable profit, and effectively exert complete control over their own part of the used game market. Know how Activision keeps their games at a $60 price tag over years? Now imagine that for the whole industry. This won't end well.

For me it's going to be all about the games. I have an Xbox 360 and almost never play it...I mainly just use it for Netflix and Hulu. The only way they will get me to buy the new system is if they can show they have enough exclusives to make it worth it. And a lot more than just FPS's and sports.
