I pulled the trigger and bought the 1TB S model for the $350. I am selling my Fat One to a buddy of mine and since the 1 year warranty that came with it is non transferable to the S he gets 10 months of warranty even tho it is used.
Cool, how is it?

I just want to get an idea of the Scorpio price. because if it is indeed going to be $600, $700, or higher, then I'll definitely just spring for the S model this year and wait several years for the Scorpio to come down.

in fact, I'll probably do that, since I really don't think I'm the target market for the Scorpio.

I don't own a 4K tv and have no real need or desire to upgrade right now.

I'm not into VR, at least not until those headsets come way down in price.

And I'm definitely more of a casual gamer and not a hardcore game anymore. I don't really play much. I just want a console that can act as a media hub and a browsing device ( which the PS4 sucks at ) that can also play AAA games like Gears and Forza and Mass Effect and Injustice 2, etc..

I think Dave meant he preordered the 1 TB S model, because the S hasn't released already has it??!!
Oh right yeah.

You're not the target to buy at launch but probably one who they would target to buy at some point, even if years later. Every year from now a big percentage of people will transition to 4KTV (as availability moves much more strongly towards 4K than HD).

yeah. that's why I'll wait another 2 or 3 years ( or more if possible ) to make that transition. by then, the Scorpio should have dropped some in price, 4K tvs will be even more affordable, and even the VR units might be more affordable.

one lesson I learned from the X1 is that sometimes it pays to not buy a product at launch. Even with the PS4 which I bought at launch, in hindsight, I think I was a year or so too early.

basically, I'll try to hold out upgrading to a 4K tv until the market starts dictating it - when 1080p HDtvs start getting phased out entirely, for example.

same with the Scorpio, I'll hold out until it becomes clear that they really are leaving behind the original X1 and X1 S.

so, I think I should at least get a good 2, 3, or more years out of the S if I get it in August.

At the very least, I'll wait for 2 years until the extended warranty plan runs out. Then, I'll evaluate the landscape to see if it's worth upgrading to Scorpio then or sticking with the S for some years more.

I wonder in 2 or 3 years time how long there would be to a real next gen, if there were going to be on.

there's also that, too.

will there still be an Xbox 2 or whatever after the Scorpio?

or, will the Scorpio really kill the conventional ideas of console generations?

I have a feeling it's the latter.

I think it would be even more "cruel" to get people to spend a premium on a Scorpio next year, only for them to announce a true new gen console a mere 2 to 3 years later.

I think, at the very least, the concept of backwards compatibility and new consoles not being BC is over, at least with MS. Even if there is a new gen of consoles with the Xbox 2, I strongly suspect all X1 games ( and BC 360 games ) will be playable, since they all should be running on the same platform and OS ( Windows 10 ).

I went into Best Buy today and checked out the TV section for the first time in a while and the thing I noticed was that every TV on display was 4K. They really are pushing that. You could still buy 1080p but those were in boxes on the show floor. BB is probably the biggest electronics retailer in the US and I hadnt realzied they completely made the switch.

As if all this stuff with HD, UHD, 4K, and HDR wasnt enough as it is, now I noticed something new....SUHD. WTH? TV manufacturers are really going out of their way to confuse consumers

^ well, hopefully that's a sign that 4K UHD HDR or whatever they are called TVs will continue to drop in price and become more affordable.

The 4k consoles like the Neo and Scorpio need those 4K tvs to become more affordable and thus more mainstream. otherwise, they will indeed be relegated to premium niche products.

How and why the **** is Halo Guardians over 82 GB? I noticed that the game is up for a free try and right away saw that it was that much..unless I completely read it wrong, It's even way higher than GTA V!

It is correct, I'm not sure if that was always the case. Yesterday I started getting warnings of disk space and when I was checking the sizes of installed games I noticed the 82GB, weird I didn't take note of that before

Which would be a really great thing if so.

Yes, it was apparent from the CES (Consumer Electronics Show) a few years ago that all the manufacturers were fully getting behind 4K (they never did for 3D for eg) and at that point it becomes irrelevant whether the customers want it or not as the majority of newly manufactured TVs will become 4K either way and the old standard no longer widely available within a few years. The question becomes do you want/need a new TV rather than do you want a 4KTV. And they've used the 4K jump to push other improvements like HDR (which I'd very much recommend) and wider colour gamut at the same time to make the difference more obvious.

Edit: SUHD is Samsung's version of 4K. (Samsung Ultra High Definition)

I should've waited to buy Doom. I just got it about 3 weeks ago.

Oh well...

Which would be a really great thing if so.

Thank you so much for posting that and to MS for advertising it just in time, I was actually just about to buy Witcher 3 today, With the save I may actually go for two games!

you're welcome.

As a PS4 owner, I have to help out my X1 brothers ( and sisters ). It's all about unity, right?? right?? :o :oldrazz:

anyways, I'm really hoping KI Seasons 1 and 3 go on sale for a good discount. I already own Season 2 digitally, so I'll pick up the other 2 seasons for........."future use." :cwink:

Is there a way to watch digital movies from the Xbox Store on different devices? I'm guessing the smart glass app might work but is there a way to do it with out the console being turned on?

looks like it has been confirmed that the X1 S will upscale games to 4K.

http://winbeta.org/news/xbox-boss-mike-ybarra-xbox-one-s-will-upscale-games-4k

since that is the case, doesn't that mean that the S is technically more powerful than the original X1?

I wonder what the actual hardware specs of the S are.....

We'll know later next year. What I don't understand is that Phil Spencer also made it clear, Scorpio is intended to exist alongside Xbox One and Xbox One S — and that all games will be available for each console — but it appears developers might be forced to choose which platform their game is optimized for. Do they design a graphically superior title for Scorpio and hope that enough gamers are willing to pony up the cash, or do they settle for a game made to perform well on Xbox One that simply upscales when played on the Scorpio?

There better be some exclusive Scorpio games for me to even justify buying it. For now, I'll wait and see.

I agree, the messaging has been a bit confusing.

that's my biggest concern about getting the new S model next month - that the Scorpio will get exclusive games and/or features within the games that the S and original X1 won't have.

hopefully, if that does indeed happen, it won't occur until a few years into the Scorpio's cycle.

that way, I can get at least a good 2 years or so out of the S before feeling the need to upgrade.

question about the Edge browser on the X1?

can it play Flash videos?

Or, at least, can it play the videos on an Anime streaming site such as this one?

http://www.animetv.to/

thanks.
