The Xbox One

$400 would be a super-competitive price for what we're getting. That is surely the absolute minimum.

I don't think it's muddled for those who are going for Scorpio at launch. But more confusing for those who are thinking of getting the S but also might be looking for the Scorpio later. For me it's become very clear and I don't think I'll be getting S or Neo or NX any more (although will be trying to persuade 2 of my PS4 friends to upgrade to Neo. Wish I had a hardcore Nintendo friend who lived close :woot:).

agree with the bolded.

definitely. MS would be losing money on the console but they would probably need to take a hit if they want it to adopt fast, especially since they are so far behind the PS4

thats primarily an issue though for those who download their games. Hopefully the new specs allow the install/delete process from disc to be faster, like the PS4 so space is less of an issue. I think they might stick to having at least 2 SKUs so they are able to sell the thing at a lower price point. At the very least a 1tb will be minimum but Im not sure we'll see a sole model for 2tb

I could see them offering a 1tb model for $400 and a 2tb model for $500.

if Scorpio launches with those price points, that would be very competitive and attractive for the specs you are getting.

However, I have a feeling $500 will be the lowest price we see at launch, and that's being optimistic. I've seen some say it could be as high as $800 or $900. But, I think anything above $600 would be suicide for MS.

that's why I probably won't be buying Scorpio at launch - if nothing else because I don't own the right equipment ( 4K tv ) for it.

with those specs, $500 does seem likely. i think part of MS' messaging has been to stress that the Scorpio is not needed and if you dont have a 4KTV (which most dont), then its not for you. They are trying to make people of the normal XB1s feel like they arent being left behind, so marketing the Scorpio as a premium product (much like the Elite controller) with a higher price point is likely what they will do.

$800. Whoever said that is crazy. After the PS3 debacle at $600, there is no way anyone would be crazy enough to launch a console for $200 more than that. $600 is the highest Im guessing we will see this and at that price, it would probably need a 2tb to help justify it with people

It might work out well. The Elite controller is relatively much more expensive for what you're getting and has sold like hotcakes.

agree with both, Havok and Iceman.

speaking of the Elite controller, you think they will include that standard with the Scorpio?

or will Scorpio have its own new controller?

Doubt it. It's worth too much and completely sells out.

^ yeah. that's true.

and I forgot that the new S controller has some new features, like Bluetooth. So, I'm sure MS will want to build upon that with the Scorpio controller.

posted this in the PS4 thread, but according to the rumors in this article, a less powerful Neo ( $499 ) will be released this fall to counter the X1 S. And a more powerful Neo with 2 GPUs for 5.5 teraflops will release next year at $599 to counter the Scorpio, which is also expected at that price.

http://www.gamepur.com/feature/2339...formance-ridiculously-expensive-possible.html

Again, these are rumors so take them with a huge grain of salt.

but, if true, it does provide a glimpse at the target price for the Scorpio at launch - $600.

If that is indeed the case, then I'm definitely not buying a Scorpio at launch and I'll wait a few years until that drops to at least $400. I'll just get an S this year and use that for 2 or 3 years, upgrading to a 4K tv during that time and waiting for the Scorpio to come down in price.

The Xbox One Elite Bundle is Now On Sale for $349. June 20, 2016 . 6:30pm

The Xbox One Elite bundle is now being discounted by Microsoft Store down to $349 –
the same price as the upcoming 1TB Xbox One S.

It seems like every time we turn around, there’s an Xbox One on sale. Just last week during E3, all Xbox One’s got a big price drop to $279 for the 500GB model, and a $299 model for the 1TB model. At that time, the Xbox One Elite has its price cut from $500 to $399, but then took a further dive this weekend with the Xbox One Elite falling all the way down to $349 – the standard list price of a regular Xbox One.

Considering the Xbox One Elite controller retailers for $150, this is a great deal. You get an Xbox One paired with a 1TB solid state drive (not to mention other little tidbits such as a controller carrying case, pictured below). Better yet, in this deal the Xbox One Elite Bundle will also qualify for a free game and extra Xbox One wireless controller promotion at the Microsoft Store (free controller is the regular Xbox One controller).

The Xbox One Elite $100 discount showed up unexpectedly on Friday and was sold out temporary through Saturday and Sunday, but it is now available again as of writing. We don’t expect supplies to last very long after the week – and to be honest we question if Microsoft will continue producing the premium unit after the introduction of the Xbox One S in August.

As a final note, at the $349 price range the 1TB Xbox One Elite is now squarely matched up with similar priced 1TB Xbox One S. Unless the Xbox One S has a hardware performance advantage elsewhere not listed, we don’t see any reason not to go with the Elite bundle for the speedy 1TB SSD and a much more expensive (and valuable) Elite controller. Of course, if you’re not looking for an Xbox One, this comparison is a moot point ;)

More detail in the article it's self

they really are trying to clear out the inventory of existing models......lol.

still, I'd rather buy the $400 2TB S instead of the Elite bundle, if nothing else for the smaller form factor, sleeker design, internal power supply, and the 2TB of storage.

It's good the S will support HDR. May just get it as a media player and spare Xbox. I'd rather get Scorpio of course but it's a long wait!

you already have a 4K tv, right?

Yes, bought 2 recently and only have one 4k player. And I would really want a player that can do HDR too.

ah, cool. then the S would be great for you.
It'd be cool to bridge the gap but Scorpio's getting bought as soon as it comes out. I want to hear more about exactly how integrated pc is going to be with xbox live.

I think I'll make the leap to 4K later this year when the Neo is released - provided there's a good trade in offer for my PS4 for the Neo and good deals on 4K tvs this holiday.

If you don't buy TVs too often and care about watching films in top quality I would wait till 4K HDR is affordable for you. HDR is gonna be huge, and much more noticeable of a difference to the man on the street than 4k. But if it's for games mainly go ahead.

oh, yeah. I meant 4K HDR tv.

there's a 40" 4k HDR tv on sale at Best Buy now for $700. That's not an unreasonable price, but I'm hoping closer to Black Friday or Xmas a tv like that will go down to around $500 or lower.

this is the one:

I'm not paying 700 bones for a tv right now. Unless I'm watching theatrical releases constantly.

I pulled the trigger and bought the 1TB S model for the $350. I am selling my Fat One to a buddy of mine and since the 1 year warranty that came with it is non transferable to the S he gets 10 months of warranty even tho it is used.

so, when/where do you think MS will talk again about Scorpio?

do you think they will remain silent about it until next E3?
