The Xbox One

It's not going to be a complete break no. Will be powerful enough compared to the X1 to possibly be compared next gen but will be running the same games etc, just running them a lot better.

Shouldn't be anywhere near that high. Did you consider trading any (or both) of those consoles in for it?

When the time comes I would trade in (or sell off) my original Xbox One.
Currently have my original connected in another room and will move the S there once I get the Scorpio.

Makes sense. I have 2 regular X1s, one in the lounge and one in the bedroom. Will get Scorpio at launch but keep changing my mind on whether to get the S. Do you think it's worth me upgrading one of the regulars to an S? (then would upgrade the other regular to Scorpio when it comes out).

You are correct, I put in a regular Blu Ray and it was 1080p. Did not notice before as I have only watch one regular Blu Ray and one 4K BR (San Andres) rest of the time its Netflix or games.

thanks!

I'm glad I'm not the only one then.

yeah. that's why I'm wary of the Scorpio and not sure if I'm going to get it now.

especially since I'm getting the Pro in a few weeks - that also makes it less likely that I'd get the Scorpio next year.

I've had nothing but trouble and headache with the X1 this gen. So, this gen, I'm most likely sticking with the Playstation. Next gen, with the next Xbox and the PS5, I'll reevaluate the situation.

at this point, I'd say no. it's not worth it, unless you need another 4K player in that other room ( and even with that, the value of the S as a 4K player has dropped in my eyes since it doesn't properly upscale regular Blu-Rays. ).

if you don't need another 4K player, and if your current X1s both work fine, then I'd suggest just waiting for the Scorpio.

If you did not currently own an X1, or only owned one and needed another one, then I'd suggest picking up an S for the time being if you want to play Xbox games and need an X1 for the other room.

but in your present situation, I don't think it's worth it for the slight visual upgrade the S provides.

will be interesting to see what the VR sets will do for Xbox gaming.

Is anyone planning on getting one anytime soon? Need some opinions.

I wonder if any of those VR headsets will work with the X1 S?

X1S confirmed to get Dolby Atmos and it will work with games too! Time to order those ceiling speakers!

I think it's a given that the VR headsets will work with the XB1S.... less so that they'll be fine with the XB1 IMHO...

yeah. I read that.

I know that was a point of contention re the S.

so, it looks like the X1 just got a Blu Ray player update to add support for BD-R and BD-RE discs.

does anyone know if that update also addressed the issue of the Blu Ray player not upscaling standard Blu-Rays to 4K?

So I see that there's a major new "Holiday" update out now for the X1.

for those with an X1 S and who've got the latest update, do you know if the update does anything to address the Blu-Ray issue, where the S does not upscale 1080p Blu-Rays to 4K?

thanks.

Question: so I'm about to move somewhere that has Comcast Xfinity Cable. Is it possible to stream live Xfinity feed through the Xbox One.
I heard that you can basically use it as another cable box but I don't know if it works with Comcast

I didn't even think that was a feature. Thought the only 4K was either through streaming or 4K specific blu rays

the X1 S is supposed to upscale/display "everything" to 4K when you enable the right settings.

http://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/console/4k-on-xbox-one-s

so, it upscales 1080p games to 4K ( it did for me ).

and one would think it would upscale 1080p Blu-Rays to 4K, like standalone 4K players do.

and apparently, at one point, the X1 S DID upscale 1080p Blu-Rays to 4K, as some Preview members have stated online. But some people complained ( why??!! ) and they removed that feature.

Hm that's pretty cool.

Maybe the feature didn't work properly during preview so they've pulled it until it can be fixed? IDK. I don't have an S (my sister does tho).

Reading some views on internet discussions on this topic it seems some are confused about upscaling. There is upscaling that just makes a 1080p signal fill a 4K screen by duplicating pixels (if it didn't do that your 1080p image would fill only 1/4 of the screen on a 4K TV. That doesn't imply any improvement at all in picture quality even though your picture is now technically 4K. It is also still really 1080p in terms of quality. But when algorithms are run to interpolate pixels rather than duplicate then you would expect to see improvement. Upscaling is a confusing term as it implies improvement even when it is sometimes meant only to refer to the basic duplication of pixels.

perhaps.

it just seems like a stupid thing to not include, especially when you do give the impression that EVERYTHING is upscaled to 4K.

well, whatever it's called, I just go based on what my TV display info is saying......lol.

so, I heard that this new November/Holiday update actually improves the UI and download speeds?

is that really true? is there a noticeable difference after the latest update?
