It's a great result. The film deserves it.

Very interested to see what lies in wait for Thor in Infinity War.

Those numbers are the ultimate proof showing how well Marvel is managing their brand, movies and characters and how over the years people became invested in fictional characters that were virtually unknowns 10 years ago.

Domestically, Thor went from making 181M back in 2011 to making 300M+ in 2017.
And the same thing happened with Iron Man (318 to 409) and Captain America (176 to 408). Worldwide the increase is even more staggering which is a testament to Marvel's commitment.

That's awesome that all 3 Marvel created movies this year have topped $800 Million. They keep producing such great products, so you just know Infinity War is going to be a monster in the Box Office.

Surfer

Next major milestone will be $300 million domestic, which is going to happen but it'll be a bit longer.

Those numbers are great, and this film is so deserving of it.

Awesome to get $800m up! Looking forward to $300m domestic next.

Ehh, I don't know if Cap's should be looked at like IM3 or Ragnarok since it was basically Avengers 2.5.

And as a result IW gets 230 million trailer views in 24 hours! I imagine Avengers 4 will smash that record too.

We could indeed be arguing semantics over Civil War but my point still stands. Marvel Studios started 10 years ago from basically nothing and they are now dominating a genre that they helped completely reshape to the point that the competition has a hard time staying relevant. This is an achievement in the industry that you could easily put on par with Star Wars in terms of cultural influence without being accused of using hyperbole.

Civil War was also in the early May slot, as I recall, which is the Iron Man/Avengers slot that Marvel has owned for years now.

So it got a boost from those aspects. But the overall upward trend is clear enough.

If they can deliver on the quality in Infinity War, and really give audiences that "Wow!" reaction that so many people got from the first Avengers movie, then it could really take the whole thing to the next level.

And then when you consider that they might be able to add Fantastic Four and even the X-Men somewhere down the line... Holy crap.

Agreed

Domestic = 291M
Foreign = 525M
Worldwide = 816M

Boxofficemojo got updated with weekend estimates.
http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?page=main&id=marvel2017.htm

Weekend estimate is $9,659,000(-42.7%). Very good hold, Doctor Strange dropped 51.3% on this weekend while Thor: The Dark World dropped 56.6%. Domestic total is now up to $291,406,599. If it follows Doctor Strange's drops after this weekend, it would end with $316.2M.

The OS total went up by $11.1M over the last 7 days. OS total is now up to $525,000,000 for a worldwide total of $816,406,599.

Is 330 M dom. out of the question?

And is there a chance that in one of the future weekends this actually rakes in more than JL?

A fair way past $800m now and closing in on 300m Dom. Surely we get another Thor after this.

It would need a 5x multiplier off this weekend to reach $330M. Only 4 out of the previous 16 MCU movies even got a 4x or higher 4th weekend multiplier. With Star Wars around the corner(and a load of new releases the week after which will take more screens), $330M seem very unlikely. But if it keeps holding well it may still have a shot at $320M. To do that it needs to hold on to a good amount of theaters over Christmas(more than DS).

Catching up to JL's weekend numbers will depend on the theater counts after the Christmas releases hit. If more theaters decide to drop Justice League, Ragnarok could very well catch up to it.

Close to $10M domestic for the weekend is really great. Looks like the IW trailer did give it a slight boost. I'm really hopeful it will hit that magic $300M domestic by Saturday (Friday looks to be a bit too hopeful now for this milestone).

I feel fairly confident that this will overtake Justice League in daily domestic earnings at some point, considering just how much that movie is dropping. It's having some 70+% week-to-week plummets, even when it didn't start out that strongly in the first place. Justice League may unfortunately fall off a steep cliff once it crawls past $200M domestic (it's at $197M currently).
