Thor's box office competition - Part 1

Wall-E is my 2nd-favorite Pixar movie ever. And I love all Pixar movies (except Cars). It's a glorious film.

Bridesmaid made 3.4 mil on Tuesday, and Thor comes in second with 3.0 mil. Kinda surprising to see Bridesmaid doing so well.

Checkout this alliteration: Bridesmaid made more money on monday as well.

I don't think it's a surprise, there's good reviews and good wom for it and its the type of movie your girlfriend would make you see after you making her see Thor.

So with that it puts the domestic total to $125 million. The international tally is at $232 million, of which I'm going to venture they'll get 12-13% of. I get that figure from some numbers I saw for Disney's "Gone in 60 Seconds" ....

They've clearly made up their budget and the rest will only add to the allure of green lighting a sequel and the recognized respectability of a character many felt would be too cheesy for the big screen.

I still maintain that the concept could've been even larger had Marvel not intended Thor for a team up .... but I'll take it, because I love the movie so damn much.

I think the sequel we'll get a more fantastical approach. There's alot of potential.

Yes, more Asgard stuff please.

I think they will still try to fit Earth in there somehow, and they have to decide what to do with Jane. If Thor and Jane were to become real lovers, then they can't be at two different places most of the time. Either Thor has to stay on Earth more, or Jane at Asgard.

They don't have to spend alot of time together, they aren't that needy.

I don't think it's particularly fair to categorize someone that enjoys spending a reasonable amount of time with a significant other as needy though.

Well I think it's fair because of how they were written.

Didn't the incredible hulk gross about 230 million dollars, and they didn't seem to think that was enough to go ahead and keep the franchise alive.

Budget: $150 million
Domestic BO: $134,806,913
Foreign BO: $128,620,638
Total: $263,427,551

Again if we use the same number of about 13% that we used with Thor to figure out the cut they got from the Foreign BO (approx $16.7 million), that would put them at just about $150 million .... Thor's done that in two weeks. TIH did the majority of it's numbers between 6/13/2008 to 7/17/2008.

I love TIH to death (was my favorite Marvel film before I saw Thor) .... but financially I could see why they'd have trepidations about green-lighting a sequel. There were some abnormal factors though that contributed to it's poor domestic box office results.

Wonder if they'd bother with The Leader, they already established him, he could be a minor threat to the Avengers. Ah, wishful thinking.

Thing is that number was for TIH entire run while Thor's numbers are only at 3 weeks and counting. But yes, Marvel needs to give us a Hulk movie after Avengers with the Leader as the antagonist, that would be awesome.

Is the Domestic Gross just for USA or is it a North American Gross including USA and Canada?

....you saw Fast 5?.....WHERE are you getting all the cash for these films? lol

Well, two out of the three times I've seen Thor was matinee and I also budget my money very well (always have).

Yeah I normally see the matinees as well.

Yeah, I use matinee whenever I'm rewatching a film or just when I need to save money.

11M for the weekdays and 130M by end of thursday is happening now. Yes!

It's only got to make $4,597,974 between today and tomorrow to get the 130M. Just under $2.3M a day average. Friday it beats TIH's domestic take.

Think it'll get to 400 ww by Monday?
