IM2...what a letdown that was. It set the bar so low that some critics deluded themselves into thinking the latest Iron Man was the best. I like IM3 but it isn't in the same league as IM1.

I think you might be underestimating how much of the GA actually did love TDKR. 92% audience rating on RT with an avg. 4.5/5 score. Down from TDK's 96% audience rating, but still pretty darn impressive.

Idk, maybe it's just cause I'm a huge Star Wars fan but I'm very used to the middle films being considered the best so it doesn't bother me too much. It's when you have a mediocre first sequel like Iron Man 2 that I get a bit weirded out, haha.

Plus IMDB has TDK at 9 and TDKR at 8.6 which is not much of a decrease, especially when compared to the scores of other CBMs. Not many CBMs have scored over 8.0. Not even IM.

I loved IM 2 and have no clue why some people whined so much.. The gen audience clearly liked it.

Fully agreed. I like IM3 more than most probably, but the first film is in a class of its own for that series.

Yup. Some fan backlash was inevitable given the story they were telling, but TDKR fared impressively well critically and with general audiences, especially considering what it had to follow.

I'm hoping we can get:

2015: Flash, MOS2
2016:Wonder Woman, Batman reboot
2017: Justice League

But Warner Bros probably won't shelve Justice League any longer to follow the Marvel formula.

I want them to get a decent GL in there, too. Instead of a reboot take the approach of The Incredible Hulk and tell a new story with new cast and creative team with a nice little nod to the origin in the title sequence.

Did they? It had mediocre legs at the box office despite a pretty weak slate of competition in May and June of 2010.

Well it did get generally good reviews from critics and audiences. Just not as good as the first movie. It got similar reviews to Thor and TFA, they all work better as part of the MCU rather than as stand alone movies. IM was great as a stand alone as well as part of the MCU.

But yeah I don't agree that IM2 got generally negative reviews.

I liked all three Iron Man movies. I'm still not sure why so many people hated IM2, but that's just me.

Even Favreau admits that Iron Man 2 was rushed. He wanted to go for a 2011 release to give them a full 3 years to make sure the script was in a good place, but Marvel would've have it. The 2 year turnaround is brutal for a movie of that scale. It's pretty incredible that Spider-Man 2 turned out as well as it did considering it got rushed out pretty quickly too.

I don't think Iron Man 2 is horrible, just kind of dull compared to the first one. There is some good stuff there, but it smacks of being more of an Avengers setup film than a sequel to Iron Man. Again, not really Favreau's doing.

I didn't say it got negative reviews. It actually got a pretty free pass from a lot of critics.

It made well over 300 mil domestic again and out-grossed Iron Man 1 Worldwide. It also sold 130 mil in DVD sales alone without counting up any of the Blu-Ray sales. And people can credit IM 3 blowing up to the Avengers if they want but if IM 2 was viewed as a mess by the gen public the buzz would never have been there.. Avengers simply gave a well liked franchise a boost..

The only thing I didn't like about IM2 was Scarlett Johanssen. She was nice to look at, but was almost a non-character in it. But she redeemed herself in The Avengers, so I welcome more Black Widow to other Marvel films. But the other stuff was fine. Loved Sam Rockwell, the IM/War Machine fight, Whiplash, etc.

From a forum: was way lucky to see a screening of this a week early

for real, this is Superman on a level we have never seen before. in terms of ACTION, CHARACTER, DRAMA, CRAZY COMIC BOOK SCI FI, AWESOMENESS..... nothing ever on this level.
very similar to Batman Begins for me in that it makes you think about just what makes this superhero just so incredible. Zack Snyder pulled it off & this film is the superhero standard to be judged by.

i was happily surprised to see how successful the odd marriage of Zack Snyder's fanboy sensibilities and Nolan's keep it reality style was. in my opinion it's perfect as it, much like Nolan's Batmans, reboots Superman cinematically & it keeps the basic mythology perfect. It's an all new Superman doing things we fans always wished we could see on screen.

Henry Cavill brings a new layer to Kal-El and thankfully isn't needed to and doesn't try to copy Christopher Reeve's classic performance. This is a new Superman and it works.

Michael Shannon as Zod is great also. No wink wink fan pandering "kneel before Zod" or anything like that. just anger, rage and a great performance.

The only negative i could think of is that is kind of the exact formula used in Batman Begins but with Superman. While the origin story told in flashbacks work well in both, it rings slightly of something we've seen before. I mean i freaking love Begins so for me, if it worked one time then sure do it again but i could see it bothering some.

I heard some dumb dumbs outside the theater last night complaining about Man of Steel's dialog. "The Phantom Zone?! Why would the screenwriters pick something so stupid?!" Much like Kal of the House of El, i learned to control my rage.

Now that is funny. BB's origin formula was basically a modern update on Donner's Superman origin formula. And now a new Superman movie is using BB's formula. It's 6 Degrees of Donner I tell ya!

I'm shocked to see a lot of you guys against Luthor for the sequel. I think he's pretty much a given and I expect it to be nothing short of amazing. He's Superman's most dangerous foe because unlike his physical adversaries, Luthor attacks what Superman stands for. He wants to turn the people against Superman, and he has the power and the influence to do it.

I can already see the viral marketing. A faux press release sponsored by Lexcorp or something like that questioning if the world really needs Superman. I could also see like a mock Obama campaign. Luthor's face with the word "Hope" underneath. Now THAT would be interesting. Luthor being the one championing for hope - not Superman - on that grounds that we need to free ourselves from this alien we can't trust.

Man Of Tomorrow could refer to both Superman and Lex.

I think "hope" would be too soon. "Victory" would be an awesome catchphrase, though.

I suggest hope because it would flip the theme of Man Of Steel on it's side. Superman being a symbol for hope and then Luthor being the one to take it from him.

I'm just tired of Lex. I want Brainiac.

I think he's pretty much a given and I expect it to be nothing short of amazing.

If they're going to to use him (and they probably will), I want them to wait until the third film.

Well, to some extent I agree with you (and Nolan did indicate that he was heavily influenced by the Donner film) but BB is a bit nonlinear, at least in the beginning, showing Bruce's younger years in flashbacks. Superman '78 is completely linear.

^ Braniac would be nice. I guess Mongol or Imperiex should be for Justice League ;)

Right, modern update. :cwink: IM1 followed the newer formula very well too. Love the way the timelines jump around in BB and IM1.

Yeah, me too. One of my only complaints about Superman 78 is that I feel it takes a little too long to get to Reeve, who gives the best performance in the film. Nothing against Jeff East, but they probably could have just made Reeve look a little younger and had him do must of the young Clark scenes.

I'm glad that in BB (and apparently in MOS) we get to see the grown up hero early on.
