Thats actually one of the best and most accurate things I have seen said about this film.

Yeah it's what I predicted earlier. Although if I had to choose between two sides of the spectrum i'd go for Man of Steel's approach.

The pacing in the film is atrocious, and kills a lot of the films emotional moments.

If they paced it any different it would have drug out to an 3 hour movie. I feel it was paced enough to get the message across. The action came at the right time and was a great end to the film...except for the great scene at the planet

I agree.

As far as I'm concerned, This movie is about even with SR for that very reason.

Pacing does not always mean length.

On a sidenote...my viewing started 30 minutes late. Probably because of the storms that came through my area earlier in the day. To thank the audience for their patience, we were given free movie passes.

Score! Superman, baby! :awesome:

Seems like you enjoyed the film but agree that what's holding it back is the pacing and character development of the story.

Yep. I did. I went in expecting action to the face, and the last half of the movie had it. It just didn't know what it wanted to be and it hurt it in a lot of ways.

The pacing in the film is atrocious, and kills a lot of the films emotional moments.

Emotional moments were stifled by the awkward pacing.

Sweet. Showtime's review gives me some hope

Worth seeing it in the theater if not for the action alone.

I agree with a lot of this, Show. I enjoyed it. I don't think it's on the level of Batman Begins, and the pacing issues were evident. There are some things that purists will complain about--I won't say whether they're right or wrong.

Yeah I mean it's the pacing either from the script or the editing that gets you while viewing this. I still found it entertaining, but there are some evident flaws.

I'm probably going to seem like an idiot here, but can you or anyone explain to me what pacing means, in regards to movies? I've never really had a clear understanding of what it meant.

Just got back from my screening. Overall, its an enjoyable movie but it definitely has its issues.

Great performancs from Crowe, Costner and Cavill
Shannon was good but i felt he wasnt given enough to work with
Awesome VFX. Krypton is stunning
Terrific score

Pacing is weird. Certain moments should have been given more time to breathe.
Action is great but its not particularly diverse and it does begin to drag after a point. Theree are only so many buildings you can destroy until the awe-factor is reduced.

7.5/10

Just out of curiosity - was anyone else thrown during the weird dream sequence drug trip scene? lol or was it just me. Having seen the movie twice now I still am like... wtf?

i only wish they would have cut half the scene time for [BLACKOUT]"the piling machine destruction" and put them on clark and lois at the cemetery. and perhaps insert some montage of crowd pleasing saving scenes after the first flight[/BLACKOUT].

Despite the terrible reviews this has gotten (which is baffling that SR got positive reviews, that movie bored me to tears.), I really enjoyed this. Cavill was a fantastic Superman, and I really look forward to MOS2. This is coming from a non-biased (non) Superman & Snyder fan. Everyone was awesome in this movie. Definitely gonna see it again.

It's funny, most everybody said this would wipe SR from the map and make people forget about the Donner films. It doesn't. It has a place among them for sure, but it's not that home run people thought.

It's how long the story feels as it develops. A short movie can have a slow pace. A long movie can have a fast pace. How scenes are dragged out or obviously edited for runtime can greatly effect a movie.

Snyder just isn't a great director.. We all knew it when he got the job and had hope but he can't tell a story.. He just knows visuals..

This is the NON-SPOILER thread. There's a certain other thread for spoilers :whatever:

My wife and I loved it.. She said it made her want to cry and she's not a comic person. She said dc does adult movies and marvel us for kids

I choked up several times myself. These are characters you care about. LOVE what they did with Perry White as well.

Frankly, this is the comic book film where I feel most attached to the characters. The Reeve Superman films were great (I & II), but it never looked like Superman was threatened. Lois' death was the emotional high point. But this flick was far more personal.

I feel little attachment to anything in the Marvel films. They are fun movies, but the characters don't really portray issues I can identify with or sympathize with too often. I'm not knocking those films overall, but the level of emotional involvement in this one is high.

It's also much higher than in the TDK Trilogy. I kind of gave a "wow" when Rachel died and Harvey holding the Gordon's was pretty rough - and Batman's "sacrifice" at the end of TDKR was moving - but this one is on a different level.

I think that may be part of the critics' issue. You sympathize with Clark's plight. Frankly, you also get where Zod comes from. Zod's not supercomplex, but the movie explains why.

This isn't your daddy's Superman. There's more moral complexity here and a lot more destruction (another thing that some could take issue with).

I can see where some of the critics come from, but I don't agree with them. I didn't detect any plotholes like some have said, but often times critics will call the lack of explanation a plot hole.

All that said, the movie is so dense that one viewing cannot do it justice. I'm aching to see it again. There's so much to take in. I'm not too sure any critical review based on a singular viewing can be completely fair.

Ultimately each person has to decide for themselves. I loved it. I teared up several times. I laughed several times. My jaw about hit the floor on more than one occasion.

I think the "too much action" or video game action gripes aren't really justified. Just because Kryptonians are moving superfast and doing crazy things at the speed of sound or faster may look like a video game, but how else do you pull it off. The action is not realistic at all because Kryptonians are involved. Unlike Avengers where everything moved at mostly normal speeds, this doesn't happen here. Building don't collapse because they are hit by missiles or falling ships - the fall because a Kryptonian got thrown through one or into one. The incredible powers of all involved here are on display. It is unrealistic because we know of no one that can actually do that. If the criticism is unrealistic action then that person shouldn't be watching a comic book flick. Just sayin'.

To give a good example, Superman: The Movie is about the same length, and the pacing in that film is almost perfect.

Ha. I forgot about that. That was very pointless.

Thanks.

So it's like how TDKR just dragged on and on and on and on and on. :woot:

You pretty much summed it up perfectly.

IMO, if anything, this movie made me realize why STM is so revered. And its not out of a sense of nostalgia.

^ UNTIL it rushed over to the climax, resolving all plot points like a superhuman film. If BB is like a rollercoaster, and TDK is like a thrill ride, TDKR is the drop tower. Spends a lot of time building up and floating-and then WHOOSH, it's over ;)
