You're nostalgic, idealizing the past... Characters well developed, perfect tone? They barely develop anyone besides Clark and the campy tone of Lex, Otis & co was ridiculous, etc, etc.

The problem with a minority of critics is that they keep idealizing movies that were not that good to start with. MOS has its flaws, but it is better than most Superman and comic book movies IMO.

I'm not being nostalgic or idealizing the past, I'm merely recognizing what superman movies in the past did RIGHT, in light of where MOS has allegedly gone wrong.

Realistically what is the highest and lowest the RT ratings can go to at this point? Is 70% pretty much written off at this point?

I predicted btw 70 & 80 %, I think when all is said and done, it will be in this range.

And what does that statement tell us really? Are we supposed to get excited about that prospect? I realize expectations have changed considerably since 2002, but if you asked if people here if they were expecting one of the best superhero films of all-time, I don't think it is far fetched or reaching to expect a "yes". For whatever reason, the film just isn't delivering on the Avengers or TDK level scale that most people were expecting. I don't think nostalgia and longing for Reeves is the problem. The problem seems to ensue from the movie itself.

I had it 83-85%. Looks like a longshot, but if hundreds are possible and once they roll in after its release, it's possible. Of course, got to look at the bright side. Too much debbie-downing for my case before even laying eyes on it.

The response is actually making me want to see it more!

And the problem with a minority of Superman fanboys is they will bash others' opinions about Man of Steel before they even judge it for themselves

well you could say this about every fan of a movie /book/ game !

waiting so long for a movie like this, read all the great reviews a week ago and suddenly its a "not so good" movie...

its hard to swallow that pill!

but i agree. I didnt see it so i wouldnt attack somebody who saw it. But if you compare the positive and the negative reviews they contradict themselfs.

I have just returned from witnessing Superman throw a punch or two...or a few hundred. The sheer scale of the action in Man of Steel was absurd...and I mean that in the best of ways :)

Iron Man 3 has over 260 reviews. Man of Steel currently sits at 61, so it could change dramatically either way.

For now:

A majority of them haven't seen MoS like you and I have :) we have differing opinions, of course but to those who have not seen it, I would encourage them to regardless of any negative opinion be it critic or moviegoer (that includes your opinion of MoS,) because we all see films differently.

Saying one character was written well but the rest of the movie wasn't is not contradictory

I was referencing how she immediately said that Snyder and Goyer needed to go, and yet she loved Lois was written. More just to point out to the poster that was ticked by her first comment didn't need to take the reviw too seriously.

I did expect Avengers/Dark Knight type reviews, I could say those movies had better directors but did Joss Whedon really prove he was a serious movie director before Avengers? Getting off the critics what the the viewers rating MOS?

Because it's not certified fresh yet, it can go below 60%. It's not getting back to 80%.

Worst case scenario: 55-59%

Best case: 70%-73%

Anything is possible.

Yeah but we're talking zack snyder not kevin garnett. :o

Really though i'm not sure where all these positive reviews are just going to start popping up from? I think all the big-name or "prestigious" critics have already spoken?

Russell Crowe is in the movie lol

:whatever:
I know that, my point is that I doubt that as a parent he'd like to force his kids to be traumatized by the violence in a movie, even if he's in it.

Yeah, basically this. Naturally, it'll probably end up somewhere between the best and worst case scenarios, so I'm guessing it'll stay in the 60s.

I 100% agree. It's not my place to tell anyone to watch or not watch a movie. My job is to give as honest and objective opinion as possible. If anyone bases their attendance on my opinion that is their choice, but not my intention.

I would be cool with a 70-73% tomato meter. Make fun of me for liking the Fast and Furious franchise if you want, but Fast 6 sits at 72% and I loved it.

Realistically, that's how I see it as well. But, lets see how it plays out within this weekend. Hell, the BO is a whole other story of craziness set to begin!

Maybe she only liked that aspect of the movie above all. That's not strange.

Haha, I know.

Well, I'm not really sure where those 270 reviews came for things like TDKR either, but they come from somewhere. By Friday, we'll probably have a good idea of around where it's going to land.
