WILL SOMEONE WHO HAS SEEN THIS MOVIE TALK ME OFF THE LEDGE???

But seriously, I am still super hyped for this movie. I think it will be the exact movie I wanted, but I am less thrilled about how my wife will like it (she isn't a big sci-fi/action fan, but loved Nolan's Batman movies). My early hope was that this would be a game changing Superman and everyone would love it, but it seems I was a bit roped in by the hype. I can't wait to see this thing tomorrow, but I am dreading my wife's reaction...maybe I should go by myself...LOL.

Your best hope is that she'll develop a hardcore crush on Cavill. just... don't invite the guy to dinner or anything.

:Overall Man of Steel, while better than Returns & The Quest For Peace, certainly doesn't match the lofty heights of the originals, but isn't a failure either. The film obviously has been designed with sequels in mind which just makes this starter yet another Superman origins movie, but its does have some interesting addtions.

Man of Steel may not make you believe a man can fly, he can at least glide."

This reviewer gave it a 3/5. That sounded like a fair one.

She is going for sure and I hope she likes it. I just know she is going to hate the whole Krypton thing and the action...

Him beating heroes would be another loss in his mind, making it all the sweeter. Too few superhero movies end with the villain winning.

A win is a win. Don't get into semantics. :woot:

Man people are just being to critical of this movie, this movie was absolutely jawdropping. Great storytelling, the scale of the action was just unreal, the 3d was stunningly blended in, the score Oh man the score. I saw it in IMAX so the sound was spectacular.

It is very close to batman begins, which i thought was a perfect way to do this movie. I mean we have seen the other origins Soooo many times, im glad they did it they way they did.

I am still trying to count how many times i was like HOLY SH@!$#. Now i like superman just as much as i like Batman so there is no bias. People are dissecting this movie way to much and seems to be not just enjoying on so many things the team so well. Seeing it again asap.

"Lofty heights of the originals"? Really? Lots of people seem to be remembering the Donner movies with rose-tinted glasses, I watched them again recently, and in my opinion, they are incredibly dated, cheesy, fun movies, but nothing else, certainly not classics in my book, but hey, it's only my opinion, I sure remembered fondly some movies, and then thinking when rewatching them years and years later "Wow, I liked that?"

Yes, a lot of nostalgia about the old Donner films that arent great to start with (in my opinion).

Superman:TM is holy to me. I was 9 when I saw it in theaters, and I cant tell you, the milestone that film was - from a technical point of view. I will always appreciate what Donner did with that film.

The thing is, Im not even the biggest Superman fan - but that movie is not only a snapshot of a time period, but was able to capture magic on film in a way that few very films can compare to.

Its very easy to make "spectacle", when CGI artists can draw up anything you can imagine. But Donner and company had no idea how to make alot of the things that were on the page work. This was a priod is HIGH creativity in the film industry that I sorely miss. Carpenter, Lucas, Speilberg,Scott to name a few.. were blowing kids minds with what they were putting on screen during this time.

Anyway, Superman isnt perfect, but to me, depsite its flaws, its comes just about as close to the pinnacle of creative filmmaking as I can imagine. Reeve was born to play the part, immerses himself in the role, and made me believe he was Superman.... some of Puzo's dialogue, especially Jor-Els is magnificent, and to this day, are quotable favorites, the composition of the frame is exceptional, the score in glorious...

Im rambling. Its hard for me to put into words how much I love the film (Although when I heard of the Donner cut I was praying they would get rid of Lois stupid voice over, but oh well.... )

This leads me to .... Man Of Steel is a different interpretation. Its that simple. Take it or leave it, but Superman:TM has always been a highly regarded film with critics, and its unfair to compare MoS to a film that for so long has been put on such a high pedestal. How can you watch something with a open mind if your watching it and constantly comparing it.

Im more worried about changes to characters (which bothered me in TDKR, and TAS), and some of the things Ive read, I dont like.
Someone from AICN who saw the film, a Superman fan, actually called Superman in this film a sadist, and said Pa Kent is shaky ethically

same here i never liked them they lack depth and heart wrenching emotion i am sure mos will have that i will give them that they were very charming and romantic in a sense

reeve becomes superman way too quick like a light switch their is no battle for it

it never felt earned

Couple of reminders......

This is the MOS review thread....not a lounge.

Keep it clean and civil in here.

Anyone worried about the critics can seek solace in this article. Looks like people are recognizing the stupidity of movie critics.

I don't care about the critics, but when guys like Anjow don't like it, that has me worried. Though I loved TDKR and he didn't, so I guess there's still hope.

Ok... a friend of mine was in the Philippine and was lucky to see the MOS already. He loved it and consider this to be the best Superman movie ever. although he did say there was a lot to take in and he will have to see it a few more times. He rated 10/10, but not over TDK in story wise. Action, this movie tops all that came before it. I'm now more hype to see it tonite.

Fact is I saw the Donner movies a few years ago, I get it must have a totally different impact when you see those as a child or when they are released, must be something special.

^ That's actually a press review :)

But most blogs aren't on RT, and truthfully, they are the one's boosting the movie. When the dust settles, it will probably get a fresh, but BARELY. But audiences expecting good action will probably be satisfied, and I'm sure it will get at least a 7 on imdb.

You'll like the movie, but it isn't quite #1 CBM quality (maybe not even top 10). I'm seeing it again today. If I didn't like it I would've tossed my tickets in the garbage.

If a lot reviews aren't on RT, it's not really an accurate rating is it?

I'll be the judge of that and I will tell you the correct ranking in 2 weeks. :cmad: :woot:

I'll be interested to here your second take.

He doesn't mention SUPERMAN III. Does that mean he thinks that was better than TMOS? :hehe:
