Most the reviews I have seen said she was fine on her own but their relationship was underdeveloped.
We know she's not just a damsel in distress because we saw her with a laser gun :yay:

I know, right! She hasn't struck me as one in what we've seen so far, but trailers can also be very deceiving. I suppose my expectations in this regard were sky-high and I was expecting every other critic/viewer to praise her character and Amy's performance, just like we've seen Cavill's, Shannon's, Crowe's and Costner's performance being constantly praised thus far.

How many times has the love interest in a CBM been praised? :whatever:

I know :csad: I wish it was different, especially now with Lois.
I thought Pepper Potts and Peggy Carter were very interesting characters, but I haven't read any Iron Man or Captain America reviews, so I don't know what critics/viewers had to say about them.

In all honestly, though, I hope Lois stands above all other love interests and she's seen as much more than that by the GA.

I'd be OK with Lois being a DID at times. It has to do with the gender of the lead, not sexism of any kind. If you had a Supergirl movie, you'd have a guy in distress.

A woman can be "strong" or self-sufficient without downplaying the need for her male hero.

I fully agree and they do in some reviews but the GA don't really talk about their performances that much.

In the case of Peggy it's usually "she's so hot omg" you know the usual :cwink:

@IoMPaul
Yeah...#manofsteel is everything you wanted it to be. Absolutely amazing.

Saw #manofsteel at an advance screening today and I gotta say...it's fantastic. We'll have a full review next week.

In my eyes, the lighthearted "fun" thing is much more of a fad. How many dark and gritty superhero movie do we have in the last 8 years? BB, TDK, TDKR, Watchmen, Dredd, maybe Amazing Spiderman. Thats it.

That certainly is not it. I found Dredd to be mediocre, and ASM to be terrible, but beyond that, you're forgetting 300, 30 Days of Night 1 & 2, Blade Trinity, The Spirit, both Punisher films, Daredevil, Surrogates, and Priest. Tiptoeing outside of the genre, we have exemplary films like Immortals, Clash of the Titans, Underworld, and The Wolfman. Surely I've missed several, but you get the idea. Let's try to be a bit more impartial, shall we? In any case, my point is that tone is not and should not be the most pivotal barometer for judging a film, but time and time again I see folks dismissing certain movies for no other reason than the lack of a dark tone. That's nonsense. In the case of many of the films I mentioned, it's quite clear that the producers sacrificed substance for style in their approach. A movie should never get a free pass for being excessively serious, filled with bleak overtones, and angst; those aspects, like anything else, need to be done well first.

All of them were loved by most of their audience and all of them were widely regarded as good to great to masterpieces. Thats not a fad.

I disagree. For one thing, all of those films are definitely not masterpieces; at least half of them being the furthest thing from such a designation. Anyway, I believe it is becoming a fad because many fans seem to default to "dark & gritty" as the primary criteria for a film before anything else. Check interviews from filmmakers and industry people, and they often times echo the same sentiment - "we want to approach film XYZ as a more serious, dark and grounded affair." In my opinion, this is approaching things in reverse. Tone should match an already established story, setting, and characters, not the other way around.

How many "fun" superhero movies did we have? IM, IM2, IM3, Thor, CA First Avenger, Avengers, Kick Ass (it gets dark a lot, but is still more of a comedy than a really dark and sombre film), Wolverine Origins, Green Lantern, Superman Returns and more. Thats a fad, if you ask me, since most of those didn't get as much recognition as the darker ones (IM and Avengers being the exceptions). So, when you look at quality... dark is still most of the time done in a higher quality than "fun", because they take the whole subject more seriously (at least in my opinion).

Again, I don't believe this to be unequivocally true, or even remotely so. Your last sentence is the main issue I have with this approach. Your logic implies that since a dark film takes its subject matter more seriously(which isn't necessarily accurate, but I'll concede the point), this results in a better film. That simply is not true. Seriousness for the sake of it is not quality, it is simply an approach. Said seriousness needs to be done well, and be anchored by an otherwise solid film. I'm reminded of other filmmaking approaches that audiences and critics both tend to give free passes to. True story, 'feel-good', and uplifting films are among the worst offenders(We Are Marshall, I Dreamed of Africa, Seven Pounds). Realism is another. I always roll my eyes when I see realism listed a selling point for a movie, because realism, in and of itself, does not and cannot automatically impact quality. My point is that tertiary approaches and characteristics should not be held in higher regard than the actual content and substance of a movie.

In any case, don't assume that I'm pulling for light over dark, or funny over serious, because that's not the point I'm trying to make. I simply would prefer that films and fiction in general be approached with storytelling and characters in mind before style, mood, tone, realism, or whatever the flavor of the day happens to be.

A woman can be "strong" or self-sufficient without downplaying the need for her male hero.

And I am perfectly fine with that. In fact, I want him to rescue her, so far as she's not there with the only purpose of being rescued - if that makes sense.

In the trailers we've seen Lois
shooting a laser gun and being rescued by Superman.
I am extremely excited to see both situations. As a matter of fact, I would feel cheated and seriously disappointed if
Superman went about rescuing random people and not her.

I fully agree and they do in some reviews but the GA don't really talk about their performances that much.

 people...

Note: all that I just mentioned within the spoiler tags has been already shown in the trailers.

I'm having good feelings for Monday. I hope this thing takes off on Rotten Tomatoes. I want it to be in the 90's club with Avengers, Spider-Man 2, Iron Man and The Dark Knight.

^ I want it to start in the 90s. It will probably settle down into the mid 80s or so .

I don't know where this thing will end up, but I've heard enough to feel a lot more comfortable about my movie going experience on Friday.

The tweets are great... I just truly hope that the movie will have its emotional core throughout the entire film, and not just within the first half hour, whereafter it's just full blown action. I NEVER want the action to drown the story! The two needs to be in balance!!

Cavill said that the first 30-40 minutes of the film is extremely emotionally powerful, and that he him self were on the verge of crying like three times. I LOVE hearing that!!! I want the entire movie to be this gripping. I don't wanna be thinking that the action at points is overshadowing the film and that story suddenly takes a backseat! That's how a film becomes to feel "hollow". This just can't happen in MOS!!! So, here's to hope!

I think the emotion will be there like no other Superman film. I keep replaying that Nokia Trailer where Henry looks scared and unsure of himself and Jor-el says to him with intensity

"You can save them, you can save all of them".. Great stuff..

anyone in here know how the flying is?

what i mean is, in the Donner movies, there was a grace in how Reeve flew, the way he turned his body and his arms... now i know there is going to be some shaky-cam in this movie, but my question is, is it ALL shaky-cam, or is there going to be some smooth flying in this movie?

i really hope it's both

Snyder has openly said that while Donnerverse flying was graceful, MoS flying is violent especially the takeoff.

Looks like it will be both. The space shots look smooth, the battle scenes, not so much.

One day and a few hours until the end of the embargo and five days until the midnight showings.

AWWWW YEAAAAAH!

hopefully in the sequel, Snyder or whoever it will be gives Superman the chance for graceful landings and takeoffs

3.5/5 here

http://www.theobserversblog.com/2013/06/06/man-of-steel-movie-review/

Claims the Clark Kent pre-suit development stuff felt rushed, including impact of the supporting cast, but everything else is great.

Hope it's not the case for me and more reviewers :P because we've only seen a little of young Clark, let alone Cavill Clark in his wandering phase -- which is the real draw of the film besides up to date SFX. Can't have Clark spending 12 years training through Kryptonian mind meld.

^ No, that site actually uses the traditional FOUR star system. I know because I posted it. So 3.5 is actually fairly high :woot:
