TMOS Reviews Thread - Non Spoiler Review and Discussion - Part 2

Ok, there seems to be a general criticism of MOS I'm seeing in a lot of posts now....

It's too long.

Pacing issues, too much info... Who knows?

But it seems to be the biggest sticking point.

Mind you, IM3 and STID were pretty long too, though so was SR (not a good comparison...)

And most posters here wanted a 3 hour cut???!!!

By a lot you mean 10 out of 250.

By a lot of reviewers, I mean all the people who've replied to Twitter about their experiences watching MOS.

Even Devin (who HASN'T said anything positive or negative about MOS...yet) has only acknowledged its length.

If it suffers from serious pacing issues, this could end up being a big deal... I hope it's nothing that'll damage the movie!! That would be so sad.

No question that it WILL be good, no doubt about that.

Solid web reviewers like Drew at Hitfix and Nick and CHUD were positive (the latters response in a forum: Love. Love. Love it.)

Be aware of the criticisms though...

Expecting at least batman begins caliber for this one. Anything less won't be good enough.

Agreed.

Just don't be expecting a TDK level of praise, honestly. It rarely happens with the first in a reboot.

Casino Royale was a fluke, but worked more due to Craig than story, even with Dench (didn't make sense).

As for Star Trek 2009, every good review criticised the poor story.

Look at the story for CR, the controversial casting, the retaining of Dench playing M (who is NOT M), the writers of Brosnan's last few films...

It worked BECAUSE of Craig, more than anything else. His Bond made the film.

Ah Martin Campbell.

Yes, he DID do Goldeneye (Brosnans best Bond), but also did GL (....no comment), and at the time, had finished the underperforming Legend of Zorro.

Not a good sign for CR....

But it worked!

Thats what i am referring to , i have tracked and posted most of the tweets, 250 - 300 of them and only 10 mentioned it being too long

And the winner of SHH's inaugural "Golden Worrywart/The sky is falling" trophy, for selfless acheivements that go above and beyond the call of duty in the field of 'excessive and needless fretting about other people's opinions' goes to Naite22.

Naite, I want to thank you for all of the devotion you have been putting into the art of worrying and "what if-ing?...." about this movie for the rest of us. Simply put, you have sucked every solitary iota of hesitance and trepidation that the rest of us might have had about MOS from the room. We are left with absolutely nothing negative for any of us to glom onto.

Darn it, I was so looking forward to spiralling down a bottomless rat hole filled with the other nattering nabob's of negativism! Now I'm free to clear my mind and enjoy the movie for what it is, rather than what others think it could/should have been. Bravo! Btw. Do you need a hug?:cwink:

I've yet to hear a real problem with the film.

It'll be good / great (some will love it), and others will have issues.

In other words, not a disaster.

If it WAS, there'd be hints by now.

Screenings would NOT happen.

The embargo would mean we'd get NO responses. No twitter, no public reviews. Nothing.

We're not getting that.

Relax.

This is NOT another GL situation.

This is NOT a SR situation, where fans fell in love with it but failed to engage the GA.

Everyone take a deep breath. It's going to be ok. We're going to see some reviews calling it great, some calling it pretty good, and some calling it disappointing. Reviewers, like us, come from different backgrounds and like different things. I guarantee you that the reviewers that tweet stuff like, "I didn't like it and haven't heard good things," are talking to like minded individuals in their usual circles. So the few get presented as the majority, when they're not. Overall, the buzz has been great. I've heard enough to know I'll have something to like and, possibly, love in this movie. I'm satisfied about that. I'm NOT satisfied that I have to wait til Friday to verify that feeling.

That's pretty worrisome.

It doesn't look like the movie is gonna be all that good, I think a huge chunk of critics are gonna trash it. Also he continued his tweet:

MPfly88
@SizzlerKistler "The advanced response from the majority of tweets say the movie is awesome"

Alan Kistler
@MPfly88 "All my own sources who saw it say otherwise, so I still consider it anyone's game."

I think once that embargo lifts we should prepare for disappointment.

We seemed to have moved on from the directors cut talk, but deborah snyder elaborated a bit on the 3hr20min cut. They said it was the assembly cut, with all the takes and everything thrown in. That they only cut one entire scene that they didnt think fit with the rest of it. Everything else was just shortened and trimmed. It didnt sound like they had enough for some 3hr MEGADIRECTORSCUT.

Rotten Tomatoes is what I'm excited for. There's only 4 movies in the 90's status (recent CBM) being TDK, Spider-Man 2, Iron Man and the Avengers. I want this to be in that class!

As I said before and as this guy said, HIS OWN SOURCES say otherwise.

When a movie comes out that I'm interested in, I have a group of friends I turn to give me their thoughts on a film. I do that because we tend to agree on things and so I value their opinion. I'm sure this guys sources are like minded individuals that like and dislike certain things. So rather than this being an opinion representative of the majority, it's an opinion representative of only those in this group.
