Saw the new Superman movie, "Man of Steel" tonight. *sigh* How I long for an On Golden Pond or Forrest Gump. I know, I know! That makes me an old fuddy duddy.
I'm just tired of these movies. They're all basically the same. Some bad guys wreaking havoc and destroying everything, then a big fight with the good guy and the good guy eventually wins. Snore. The best part of the movie was the stuff about Superman's origin and his time as Clark Kent.

So why go and see it??? I don't like horror movies because I find them boring and repetitive so I don't watch them. I mean, jeez.

Yeah I know. Why go see a genre of film, if you do not like those types of movies.

I also do not like Horror movies, try my best to avoid them.

Superman origin movie where he wins? Well I never. CBM 101.

WHAT???!! HUGE SPOILER ALERT!! :o :wow:

I thought Superman was going to lose and Earth would be the new Krypton with Zod as Emperor. Then a new Kryptonian would rise up with a following of rebels to take back what is rightfully theirs from the rule of the evil emperor Zod.

I'm not a big fan of campy comedies so I'm not going to go to a screening of The Internship. Maybe someone just gave him a +1 to see the screening -- so might as well go if it's free.

I see a lot of people downplaying the role of Lois in this movie. I'm fine with that. This is still just the origin story for Superman and this will cover his FIRST MEETING with Lois. There won't be a need to really, really delve into that relationship until the second movie.

That shot of the two of them holding hands in the trailer is all we need personally. As long as this movie establishes that Lois means something to Superman, then that's fine for now. They can delve further into that relationship in the sequel. Let's just worry about him becoming Superman for now.

Actually, Drew at Hitfix has been hinting the opposite:

Amy Adams had just as hard a job on "Man Of Steel" as Henry Cavill did. Both of them were stepping into iconic roles, although I would argue that Superman has been written better as a character in the films so far than Lois Lane has.

The biggest problem I've always had with Lois goes to the very heart of the character. She is supposed to be a great reporter, smart and capable and constantly breaking stories. If that's the case, how does she manage to work next to someone every day and not recognize him when he takes his glasses off? That bothered me as a little kid, and over time, I've come to just accept it as part of the price of buying into Superman stories.

One thing that I didn't expect when I sat down to see "Man Of Steel" was that they would finally give me a Lois Lane who addresses all of my issues, making her into a character I can finally respect. Her Lois is smart and capable and unafraid to get herself mixed up in trouble in pursuit of a story.

#ManofSteel was awesome yet nothing like The Dark Knight

Glad to hear that. I guess some people are just pissy that there wasn't more screen time devoted to her, and that's odd because in the trailers it really looks like she's a central figure in this story.

Like I said, it appears this film does a good job establishing that these two experience something together and that the seeds are planted for a relationship that will be further explored in the next movie. And I'm perfectly fine with that.

What's with all the "it's not TDK.. it's not like TDK.." comments?

I think with "FROM THE PRODUCER OF THE DARK KNIGHT TRILOGY" being at the forefront of most marketing....that was to be expected. People who don't know the differences in the characters will make the comparisons. I think it's fair to compare the style of the movies but to compare the stories and characters...no way.

Yeah, TDK is not the be all of CBM's. If it's not like TDK then why even mention it? I mean I loved TDK, my fav. CBM of all-time, but I didn't watch TA or any other movie going I loved it, its not like TDK. What does that even mean?

So MAN OF STEEL was pretty freaking incredible. Michael Shannon and Kevin Costner are my heroes. Best Superman movie yet.

TDK as a comic book movie, is considered the greatest one so far by many. So, most cb movies will be compared to it until something else comes out which is considered "the best" by "some" or "most". I realize they are two different beasts, but the comparisons are inevitable.

Yeah and a ton of people will go in expecting a similar experience to Dark Knight because of Nolan's attachment in the marketing. I also don't think that impression from Twitter meant it as a bad comparison. Just that it's a really different movie, which we of course expected, but many who don't know Superman might not.

Yeah, but it still makes way more sense to expect something like Begins as it's an origin film. It'd be pretty tricky to pull off an origin film that's like TDK. If anything, MOS 2 might invite more of those comparisons. It also stands a chance of being the darkest Superman movie yet.

And before people jump on me with "Superman shouldn't be dark!", that's not a Superman thing, just a second movie thing. More conflict, more drama, things get harder for the main character. Even Joss Whedon is hinting that the sh** is gonna hit the fan in Avengers 2.

A lot of people put TDK on the top of their list. I don't think they are comparing the two, just giving a judgement on where it stands in their "list."

Yeah, but Begins didn't have 1/10000 the cultural impact that Dark Knight had...so that will be the film it will be compared to. Especially considering this is a DC property.

While that's a genius bit of marketing, it's also obnoxious in a lot of ways. I just had a conversation with some friends last night, and they were shocked when I told them that MOS was directed by Zack Snyder, not Nolan - and then they were equally shocked when they found out that other recent movies advertised as "presented by _____" were not actually directed by those people. e.g. Mama (produced by Guillermo Del Toro), Devil (produced by M. Night), The Man With the Iron Fists (produced by Tarantino) - they saw all of those movies under the impression that they were seeing a new Tarantino, et al film.

Had the pleasure of seeing Man of Steel at a screening last night. Great, great superhero movie. The tone was pitch-perfect.

To be fair "FROM THE DIRECTOR OF 300 AND WATCHMEN" is also front and center as well. :yay: But yeah, once people see The Dark Knight Trilogy, alot of them will just tune out everything else and say "I'm in" haha
