The Dark Knight Rises Tom Hardy as Bane XVII

The character is. Given that Hardy is shorter than Bale, the Nolan version does not appear to be.

I know...I know...but they'll be the using "teh camera trickery". Camera trickery can only do so much.

He's wearing lifts in his shoes. Hardy stands the same size as Bale on set.

With the trickery he will be bigger.

Does that end this?

Venus, throw in the "COME AT ME BRO" picture for good measure .

No it doesn't. For some of us, Bane should be around 6'5 or so. He should tower over Batman...not look him dead in the eye. I hope it's a great movie and I hope that Hardy will be great, but there are some things are are unnecessarily distracting. If the Joker didn't have a white face, people would be justifiably ready to riot.

Put a shirtless Hardy next to a shirtless Bale and you'd see. Even with the length difference I bet Hardy has way more pounds/mass, that's bigger to me. But what do I know.

Also Hardy has been wearing lifts on some of the spy-photos they are standing eye to eye.

His size would have mattered if this film were supposed to be the comics-world and Batman too looked like physical perfection. But it isn't and it doesn't.

The size of this Bane is more than enough for the context that is these films and the more grounded world they have created.

That's only because he is in the foreground - with Batman several feet away in the background.

As バット人 said, it's just the perspective.

No...

He stands equal on set. Now add force perspective to that and he will be visibly taller than Batman. They're clearly not shooting them to their literal heights.

Does that ease your mind?

Well the train for that kind of Bane in this movie is long gone. I'm sorry you feel that way and that it will be distracting. But you can't please everyone.

I don't think Bane towering over Batman is something essential to an adaptation of his character. I'm nowhere near that purist. But I respect that some are.

And Batman looks about 3'2.

It's called perspective.

and he looks bigger than Batman. What does your comment matter.

If all the shots in the film of the two were like this Bane would always look bigger than Batman.

So people who want him to look bigger...win.

Meh, what matters to me is that Bane can kick Batman's ass. Not that Bane can kick Batman's ass while looking down at him.

Rag, all the shots won't be like that, though.

That effect would be damn near impossible to achieve when Batman and Bane are directly next to each other, and engaged in combat.

What was the alternative? Casting a giant?

Nolan seems to be doing literally all he can within reason. He cast a great actor AND is seemingly going through pains to make him look considerably bigger. He's not saying "Here's a good actor, but he's shrimpy. Deal with it!" He's literally giving you the cake and letting you eat it.

"Forced perspective" and "camera trickery" can only do so much. The fact that people want to use two seconds from the trailer and a "come at me bro" picture as some sort of proof proves absolutely nothing. When the camera angle is shot from directly behind Bane with Batman standing about ten feet away OF COURSE BANE IS GOING TO APPEAR BIGGER. Every shot of them together will not be like that. There's no way.

It's about respecting the character. Bane's height and size (along with his mask) are his most recognizable characteristics. It's no different than the Joker having a white face, green hair, and a purple coat. No different than the Scarecrow wearing a burlap sap mask.

From the lighting, the environment, the characters involved and the assumed brutality, that scene may be one of my favorite in this franchise.

You guys are still hung up on Hardys height??? Jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeezus....

Sometimes people look taller sometimes they don't I don't think it will be a big deal in the middle of a fight. It will probably be so awesome you don't have to think about every shot and how tall they look.

I couldn't imagine watching a film trying to be immersed and be that picky.

If they establish the visual power of Bane in enough shots it will totally work.

The new pics of Hardy are amazing. That is all I have to say. :D

Physical dominance is Bane's defining trait. So long as that's established (by Bane kicking the living **** out of Batman), I'm willing to compromise on the height/size issue.
