Nolan On Bane:
"The Prologue is basically the first six, seven minutes of the film. Its the introduction to Bane and a taste of the rest of the film. With Bane we are looking to give Batman a physical challenge that he hasn't had before. He's a great sort of movie monster, but with an incredible brain, and that was a side of him that hand't been taped before. Because the stories from the comics are very epic and very evocative---very much in the way that Bruce Wayne's origin story is epic and evocative. We were looking to really parallel that with our choice of villain. So he's a worthy adversary. I felt that if I could get somebody as talented as Tom to agree to hide himself in the character I would get something very special. What I really feel with a great actor is every movement, every hand gesture, every step, has performance in it. Tom completely got it. It's an incredible challenge to remove motion of the face so that you can't put things across in the usual way, and you just have the eyes and a bit of the scalp and the arms and legs. What I knew is that from Tom I would get something where you get a total character and everything has incredible thought applied to it. And a lot of what he's doing is very counterintuitive. He has this incredible disjunct between the expressiveness of the voice and the stillness of the movement of his body. He's found a way to play a character who is enormous and powerful with a sort of calm to it, but also is able to incredibly fast at times. Unpredictable. He just has a raw threat to him that's extraordinary. It's a very powerful thing when you see it come together, beyond what I have ever imagined. That's what you get from working with great actors."

Rag, all the shots won't be like that, though.
That effect would be damn near impossible to achieve when Batman and Bane are directly next to each other, and engaged in combat.
"Forced perspective" and "camera trickery" can only do so much. The fact that people want to use two seconds from the trailer and a "come at me bro" picture as some sort of proof proves absolutely nothing. When the camera angle is shot from directly behind Bane with Batman standing about ten feet away OF COURSE BANE IS GOING TO APPEAR BIGGER. Every shot of them together will not be like that. There's no way.
It's about respecting the character. Bane's height and size (along with his mask) are his most recognizable characteristics. It's no different than the Joker having a white face, green hair, and a purple coat. No different than the Scarecrow wearing a burlap sap mask.
You guys are still hung up on Hardys height??? Jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeezus....
It's a valid concern. It's unfortunate that people like me have been staying out of this forum because of the continued mockery of our opinion, being dismissed and accused of not being real fans, and all of the "Nolan can do no wrong/I'm fine with whatever he does" comments.

Lol its like the cast are all saying how awesome bane is going to be etc etc etc and every pic of him looks intimidating etc etc etc BUT hes only 6 foot 4 instead of 6 foot 6 so FAIL..Its so mind numbingly ridiculous that its to the point of not really even being an opinion, but a complete lack of any kind of vision and complete stubborness. Sorry but seriously if your still clinging to this there is no way your gonna be satisfied with the movie. They may has well have casted the undertaker in the role, then you may have been pleased.
I would never accuse anyone for not being a real fan. And I haven't seen anyone else do it either?
And all this "Nolan can do no wrong/I'm fine with whatever he does" things are so hyperbolic, I've rarely seen a comment like that here.
No it doesn't. For some of us, Bane should be around 6'5 or so. He should tower over Batman.

What is mind-numbingly ridiculous is the continued mockery and dismissal of any opinion that isn't praising Christopher Nolan and his abilities at every turn.

Marx has a perfectly valid point, guys.
Bane being a giant hulk of a man serves as a physical manifestation of his defining traits: physical dominance and sheer force. You see that guy, and you know exactly what sort of hell is about to rain down on you.
Obviously, Bane being the same height/size as Batman doesn't necessarily mean that these traits have been abandoned (and going by Nolan and Hardy's comments, they won't be) - but it's certainly not as "in your face" as his comic-book counterpart.
No it doesn't. For some of us, Bane should be around 6'5 or so. He should tower over Batman...not look him dead in the eye. I hope it's a great movie and I hope that Hardy will be great, but there are some things are are unnecessarily distracting. If the Joker didn't have a white face, people would be justifiably ready to riot.

In his initial appearances, I never pegged Bane for being more than 6'5". Obviously, he's gotten more cartoonish over the years in his depiction - growing to the size of an elephant and just being an anatomical joke. But he was much more grounded in the early days of the character.again these aren't comic books. There's a lot of things in comics that look cool that'll look foolish with real people.
Bane is like 7-8feet in the comics no?
I know...I know...but they'll be the using "teh camera trickery". Camera trickery can only do so much.
