The Dark Knight Rises Tom Hardy as Bane XXII

Of course, part of what makes the design is the stylized facial structure. Hardy obviously doesn't have a jawbone like that, so it would look quite different if adapted in live-action. Not to mention the fact that the mask looks skintight, to the point of almost looking painted on. I doubt the nose would look so pronounced if adapted with real life materials.

I'd be curious to see bane take a crack at that same concept with more realistic proportions. But I really do love the simplicity it.

Ever seen the movie 8mm?

This would have been perfect for Nolan's World. Practical, faithful to the comics, and looks awesome.

Mmmm, no. This would be far out of place with nolan's utilitarian style. the mask we got is perfect. Its faithful enough in the sense that the open spaces on hardy's face represent the white sections of banes luchador mask. Its very intimidating with the tubing positioned like teeth, and its a great excuse for how he intakes the venom. After seeing what we've seen and understanding the tone of the film a bit better, anything else would look silly

I like Hardy's mask, but I would have been absolutely euphoric if we had gotten something like those. That first one especially is quite chilling. It has a great horror vibe.

QFT

although i think what Nolan did was give Bane's mask a 100% reason for existing complete with back story, etc.

Nolan's Bane mask is barely a mask at all.

You need to see the eyes of the actor on screen. It conveys more than anything.

Nolan's Bane mask rules. Visceral, imposing, yet expressive.

Didn't someone make a mask that combined of both that mask and the Nolan mask?

Yeah I think that's the one.

You know I kinda want to see Tom with that mask. Just to see if he looks good in it. Anyone care to do a manip?

I think it was Dragonator that made one like that.

EDIT: Was this it?

I remember seeing something almost exactly like that after the Bane reveal happened last May, and I was so down with that. But after seeing Hardy in action as Bane in the trailers/sizzle reel; the mask Nolan and Co. decided on is perfect.

The part in the prologue where he gives Dr. Pavel that death glare really sent home the fact that you must see Hardy's eyes during his performance as Bane.

Otherwise, it would be extremely painful.

I wish people would realize a few exceptions to the rules does not negate the rule.

100% agree. V was a special character that only worked in that movie.

Plus Tom Hardy is good but few people can pull off what Hugo Weaving did with that. His body language alone told tales.

The point is we don't know if this could have been another exception to the rule.

@Dark B.

I don't think it's that. Characters can work like that in any movie, as long as the actor behind the mask gives a remarkable performance, like Weaving did. That kind of character, with their face unseen throughout the entire movie is very hard to pull off because the body language has to be spot on. It can't be too over the top where it becomes contrived, but it can't be too subtle either otherwise it's harder to pick up. Also tone of voice, line delivery is very important. The scene where V goes on his v-word rant is awesome.

Another film that did that character well was Hellboy 2 with Johan Krauss. They lamp shade it in a humorous way, mentioning he has very "expressive hands". :D

Point is I think Hardy is a good enough actor, who is good at body language, to do Bane with a mask that completely covers his face. Although I do like the look of Bane for this movie so whatevs.
