Watch Dogs

So what is actually wrong with the driving mechanics? Is it not simple Right Trigger accelerate? Or is it more how the cars handle.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the driving mechanics. I suck at driving things usually....but in Watch Dogs i'm nearly a pro :)

I'm in Act 4 now. I was having a problem running from the cops then I realized you just go to a bridge, jump in the water, and swim to a boat. If a helo is after you use your skill to disable it and you're done. I swear I tried every way I could think of for over an hour on that one stupid police chase. They really made the cops way to hardcore in this game. They will run over pedestrians and shoot all over the place, if the real Chicago PD was like that they would be sued out of existence

Yea, they just have poor physics, but you eventually get used to it and it doesn't become an issue.

Yea the AI is pretty terrible, both cops and pedestrians. Funny enough the enemy AI seems fine.

The only time I have trouble is when the helicopter is directly about you and you can't see it no matter which way you point your controller. Really annoying, but only happens when I've backed myself into a corner.

Evading the police can be easier than hitting water. Jump into a garage and use a Blackout. They can't get in if you had closed the door and they lose you...
Or use a blackout while under the L train. Helicopters lose you easily there too since you're not visible.

It took some getting used to having everyones info pop up on my screen, but it is a neat feature

Ubisoft Explains Why Watch Dogs On PC Had Hidden Graphics Files

Earlier this week, Watch Dogs made headlines after modders discovered hidden graphical files that transformed the game to something that more closely resembered the dazzling E3 demo presented in 2012. Today, Ubisoft took the time to explain why these files weren't used—and responded directly to accusations that they "downgraded" the game.

From the official Watch Dogs website:

The dev team is completely dedicated to getting the most out of each platform, so the notion that we would actively downgrade quality is contrary to everything we've set out to achieve. We test and optimize our games for each platform on which they're released, striving for the best possible quality. The PC version does indeed contain some old, unused render settings that were deactivated for a variety of reasons, including possible impacts on visual fidelity, stability, performance and overall gameplay quality. Modders are usually creative and passionate players, and while we appreciate their enthusiasm, the mod in question (which uses those old settings) subjectively enhances the game's visual fidelity in certain situations but also can have various negative impacts. Those could range from performance issues, to difficulty in reading the environment in order to appreciate the gameplay, to potentially making the game less enjoyable or even unstable.

Thanks for playing Watch Dogs and stay safe on the mean streets of Chicago.

-The Watch Dogs Team

As we previously detailed, some users did report that they had performance issues when they tried out the mod in question—but in general, most people seem to agree that it objectively improved the graphics thanks to a variety of tweaks that changed stuff like shaders and camera angles.

Pretty weak excuse if you ask me

I don't see it as weak. What they demoed at E3 years ago was a very small vertical slice of the game. A small slice which did not have most of what went into the final game. It was very advanced for its time and almost looked too good to be true. I think its totally possible that those high settings came at a cost of performance which could negatively impact gameplay. They've been spending months trying to optimize that stuff and simply couldn't it quite where they wanted so they ultimately made a decision to downgrade so everything overall worked better.

People would be complaining if they had a great looking game with an awful frame rate and bugs. For the first game in a series, it could have been detrimental to go that route so they took a hit in the other direction. If the worse thing a person can take out of this is that the graphics don't look as good as initial trailers, then think they are in a good place bc people aren't as forgiving when it comes to bad gameplay attributed to performance and technical issues

I can see your point there, everyone knows for years game companies at E3 have always bit off more than they could chew, showing demos that they could never live up to. I'm hoping the stuff at this years E3 is the first time they buck that trend but I won't hold my breathe

So the driving is actually pretty fun. Handles well too. You guys had me scared. I thought it was gonna be really bad. I even won a few online races! lol

I still haven't done the online racing yet. I have the trophy for hacking 1v1 but need to get the others

I really only drive around on a motorcycle but, the driving is still not great. It's def not as good as the gta 5 driving.

Never played gta v. Have the 4th one and all dlc though

Oh man I'm horrible at finding hackers in my game. I love when i successfully find and kill one tho. Any hacking tips?

You will fall in love with 1v1 hacking, I know I did. Sometimes it can really get your heart going when they are so close and don't see you. Here are my tips for you:

If you are the hacker

- First off only get close enough so you can hack them. Don't start the hack until you find a good spot to hide. Once you start the hack they know you are there.

- I generally try and find a good spot that I think is hard to see and stay away from cameras. Most of the time I stick with my spot but if you think they are going to find you don't be afraid to move. If you do move try not to run unless you're sure they can't see you otherwise, unless they are shooting, running is a dead giveaway.

- If you find yourself by an L-train terminal go up to the train but then climb over the fence to the angles roof part and get on top of the roof. This is one of the best spots I know of since a lot of people don't know that you can get there and even though it feels like your exposed people will rarely find you. Just make sure to move to the opposite edge of their line of site.

- The ghetto is hard to hide in but their are spots. Remember once you hack them you have time to try and run and find a spot and their are some. Look for fences on the side of houses hopefully you'll find one that has a bush or tree by it too. When possible always take cover as it leaves you less exposed.

- If you drive up on them try and make sure your car looks like the game parked it there. If possible avoid making wrecks or parking weird since that is a tell for them on where you may be.

- Never ride a motorcycle for hacking or tailing. If you haven't noticed no NPCs ride the motorcycle so if I see someone riding one I automatically blast them.

- Blackout is your friend and can be used once per hack. It allows you to hide in plain site if you're around other NPCs and once activated they wont be able to profile you for a bit. Get this skill as soon as you can.

- Try to avoid hiding in cars for the most part. Generally that is one of the first places they look. One exception is if there is a big traffic jam you can get into a car and hide and that does make it harder to find you. Only thing is when you hide if they find you your pretty much dead since you wont be able to start the car and ride out.

If your being hacked

- The easiest way to tell if your being hacked/tailed is when you pause the game you will still see the NPCs and cars moving. If you see that they are in your game.

- Always jam coms, it gives you extra time and some xp for doing it.

- If there are cameras around use them. You can cover more ground with the cameras and it makes it easy to profile.

- Get a grenade launcher ASAP. If you profile them and they try to take off blow them the hell up. It's much easier than using any other gun.

_ Use the tips I gave you for hacking in reverse to find good hackers. If they hit a blackout on you for instance don't keep running around. That means your close to them and they are trying to prevent you from profiling them.

- Finally, if you do get hacked don't close the screen out with the xp immediately. Look around and you will find a purple outline of where they were at and use that info to help you find people in the future and give you ideas to hack as well.

Hope that helps!

EDIT: Almost forgot, if you are hacking them and you don't think you have any good spots to hack or they are in a car and you just can't catch up with them pause the game and quit the mission. As long as you haven't hacked them and they haven't profiled you you wont lose any points

Did anyone else have to restart the game from the beginning to get the sides missions to work?

When I first started I realized that I was just hacking for money and songs and cars but not to stop crimes.

Side missions always worked for me. Get the hack that allows you the high value targets and you don't have to waste your time hacking everyone

Thanks for the tips man! Much appreciated. It really is a rush when they are so close to you, but they just can't spot you. I love it.

I know it's a crazy surge of adrenaline when they are running around so close to you. I had a guy that once and he was in the ghetto and there wasn't many places to hide, I took cover next to a fence that had something I could get cover with and a tree. This guy was going around like crazy, finally he was right next to me but didn't have me in his field of vision. I had nowhere I could run so I was just looking at him. I got to 97% and he turned and saw me through the chain link fence and blasted me! I was so pissed, I almost had him and he had a huge bounty. I think it was like 600 points or something like that.

Also don't even bother with the hack if they don't have a lot of points for you to get, just hit left D-pad and keep searching. It's a total bust if it's like +50/-270 since you basically get squat and if they get ya it really hurts your online xp

Another tip, which I think you kind of touched on, is if you are trying to hack someone, choose a really inconspicuous vehicle. The other day I was playing and I noticed a car I hadn't seen before and at about the time I noticed the vehicle, I got the notification I was getting hacked. Needless to say, I keyed on on that vehicle and the hacker didnt get very far.

I had an idiot once that pulled up in one of the baddest cars in the game, parked way up where no cars go and just saw that there. I was like really dude? You don't seem to understand how this works

Haha. Like the first day I got this game i was coming out of my hideout and i heard a muscle car just screaming around the corner and when I turned around, there was this purple hot rod staring directly at me, in the alley where my hideout was.

Although I hate it if it happens to me, it's really funny if you catch someone that just paused their game. First time it ever happened to me this guy was out in Pawnee in the sticks. I was thinking to myself, how the hell am I going to hide out here? He was near the train yard so I took cover in one of the freight cars and was planning on running around it but he just stood there the whole time. Got like 500 online xp off of him too, You know he had to be pissed when he came back to his game and saw the screen with the lost xp
