Homecoming What should they do with the Spidey franchise? - Part 1

Audiences can deal with anything as long as it makes sense and they are enjoying what they are watching, heck, it doesn't even have to make sense.
Look at 'M' returning for the Bond reboot.

M wasn't the main character though. Spidey is. Having Garfield in the role would be like having Pierce Brosnan in Casino Royale and suddenly being at the beginning of his career and just having earned his 00 status.

It's best to just get a different actor in the role of Spidey. Simplest solution without the baggage of the ASM movies, otherwise people will wonder whether he's still trying to find out about his father, why he never thinks of Gwen anymore, is he still looking for his uncle's killer etc.

I find it hilarious that some people think this is a done deal when there are so many obstacles to navigate. This is FAR from a done deal.

No one thinks its a done deal. Everyone is talking hypothetically

spider-neil, you must have veins popping out of your forehead at the possibility of Marvel getting Spider-Man.

i want to see what Marvel can do with spidey villains that Sony couldn't.I want to see their versions of Sandman,Green Goblin,Rhino,Doc Ock,Lizard,Electro, and see what they would do with new ones that we haven't seen yet like,Kraven and Mysterio.

Two words, one name makes that an issue: Avi Arad. For as long as he's around, Spidey will never be free.

I don't think he's high enough that Sony Japan can't just tell him to **** off.

I said this before in another thread. Please let this happen to Avi Arad at the end of this summit:

Here's what I think will happen.

-A Sony/Marvel deal will occur. How far the deal tips in one company's favor is yet to be determined. But I think we'll be hearing about some sort of deal in January.

-All of the spin-offs will be cancelled. Amy Pascal has said herself via email that the only things a Spider-Man Cinematic Universe would be comprised of are "Villains, relatives, and girlfriends." At least she knows that one character isn't enough to hold a universe.

-The Amazing Spider-Man series is likely over. If Sony and Marvel team up, we'll be seeing a brand new Spider-Man. This also means Andrew will no longer be playing the character, which is something that is incredibly sad to me, but will happen if Marvel Studios comes into the fold.

I feel like Sony won't really be willing to make an ASM3 at this point, since they keep making less and less money. If they still move forward with the project, obviously many things will change.

I still think Andrew should stay, best thing to Happen to the Spider-Man movies IMO> People cry about baggae, hell we have had 3 different hulks 2 of which are part of the same shared cinematic universe. I doubt ppl will freak. I'm pretty sure the first thing ppl will think if they saw Andrew as Spidey next to Iron Man and Cap wouldn;t be "OMG those other movies" but rather something more like "***** YEAH SPIDEY WITH THE AVENGERS".

Incredible Hulk was always part of the MCU

I have no alliance to Sony or Marvel, I just want to watch Spider-Man movies. If I were a Sony enthusiast it is far more likely that after the summit Sony will still be calling the shots but I don't really care either way.

Hulk in Avengers had a different appearance though and a different lead in Mark Ruffalo if Marvel were trying to distance themselves from "The Incredible Hulk", which is part of the MCU anyway. Also, Marvel didn't go and use the same look for Hulk from the Ang Lee film to their own film. You're talking apples and oranges here.

And it's not about the immediate reaction of seeing Spidey next to the Avengers. It's what people think afterwards when they reflect on it. If they see Garfield, they'll wonder quite justifiably afterwards whether the movies with him in it are part of the same shared universe and whether all that was set up in them still stands and is considered MCU canon.

I imagine, if Marvel get the rights back rather quickly, i think they will retain Andrew for the remainder of Phase 2 & 3, just to keep some continuity with the character....that they even realize, Andrew was beloved. However, once Marvel start recasting for Phase 4, that's the time you can expect Andrew to be recast.

Now, if Sony hold on til it expires, and Marvel retain right back in 2020 or 2021, whenever it is...then it's a mute point.

I think some of you are jumping the gun a little bit. First, there's no guarantee that even with Sony in trouble they will want to hand any of the rights back to Marvel. Second there's no guarantee Marvel will have the room in Civil War or Phase 3 for that matter for Spider-Man, their plans seem pretty much locked for the next 5 years and having to co-produce something with Sony is a headache they're probably not going to want. If Marvel gets Spider-Man back the more likely possibility is that he would launch Phase 4, which means no Spider-Man films for at least 5 years. With many of the actors coming off contract after Infinity War it makes a lot more sense to have a big name property launching Phase 4 in case there are no further Iron Man, Thor or Cap movies.

Spider-Man is like ice cream. There's always room.

This pretty much. Unless they still use the dates Sony had planned it really wouldn't effect the over all story going in to Infinity war. Cameo in Cap 3 then a solo before IW.

And I'm totally cool with that
Seems like a great way to start phase 4

Avi Arad is a spidey villain,he has been in five spidey movies, this is one villain that I wish would die,and stay dead.
