You really can't compare this to Avengers (especially) or TDKR in that sense
I updated my post. Lemme know if I'm missing anything.

The other thing I was wondering if previous profits benefit the studio to make those risks OR is the risk solely reliant on that exact series of films?

You didn't miss anything.

I still don't see the reason to make this for 250M

DOFP had a lot less competition and had the novelty of the old cast returning. Apocalypse will be riding of the Civil War buzz and has a few more reasons to worry in terms of other movies coming out in the following weeks.

and the whole capping off a trilogy doesn't mean much because they're not advertising it as such. Remember the TDKR trailers specifically saying "The End to the Dark Knight Saga"

I am the optimist here I think this will hit in the high 800 maybe BIG maybe low 900s. Which to me is fantastic. Theres a reason the international marketing is bigger than domestic. Fox knows that X-Men are very popular overseas. The reason Marvel movies do a lot better is they get big domestic numbers. X-Men has been solid internationally. Deadpool has been the exception. But even this will do better domestically then DoFP. The projections are good.

How so?

And at what point did this marketing push get (presumably) large?
They've been doing the modest amount of actual trailers and clips with some sponsored ads (that sky fibre one would probably cost the most).

We don't have any actual numbers but I think it is a safe assumption. Marketing for a $250M film is always going to be a big number. The standard for a wide release is ~$40M but tentpoles tend to be closer to $100M.

Oh phew.
I overthought you were implying the marketing budget was around Deadpool's.

No he's not. He's pretty generic and boring. Hopefully they give him a little more complexity than the comics.

Honestly, I'm not sure if complexity is really what Apocalypse needs, for the big screen. He's not really an especially complex character. *Convoluted* a lot of the time, sure, but convolution is not complexity.

What he needs to work is *grandeur*. He needs to have a compelling presence, such that you can buy people bowing before him as their god. He needs to give megalomaniacal speeches about rocks and eternal shores, and give them with total conviction.

I really hope this movie will be able to reach one billion dollars.

Is Storm and Magneto only the ones featured in M&M?

Still have had no luck finding the M&M packaging in stores up here in Canada.

Is the M&M store in Time Square decked out in Apocalypse promo?

Alice 2 might be a serious threat to X-Men Apocalypse's box office performance after all.
I just got the press invite for Alice and the embargo lifts as early as May 11th. Disney seems to be very confident with this.

EDIT: I got no invite for X-men so far.

If i am not wrong, Alice and X A haven't the same release date overseas. In France, Alice will open in june. I don't know for US BO but i can fell big sucess overseas.
On social media, hype is big and a lot of people say after CW, they will go see XA. There aren't a war between Fox and Marvel for GA.

It's more a complementarity.

Alice Through the Looking Glass will definitely hurt X-Men: Apocalypse.

Says who?

Media. Have you seen any marketing campaign for this movie? First movie was 6 years ago.
The quality was so-so. Critic reception as well.

Yeah, it grossed 1 billion dollars but many things changed since then.

It will not hurt Apocalypse much. Apocalypse will hit foreign market earlier than Alice. So US box-office could be affected but the not foreign one

Or you are just not interested to the movie?

People said the same thing to Maleficent in 2014. Look at how that film performed.

I'm not saying it would be big as big as Maleficent but its still a genre film that could attract a lot of kids and women, so it would hurt Apocalypse especially both films are opening @ the same day in America.

We'll see :woot: But I hope Alice will flop. I hate first movie so much

Alice Through the Looking Glass will definitely hurt X-Men: Apocalypse.

not as much as people are expecting

- it has no buzz or hype in the media or the general audience
- terrible marketing
- a sequel 6 years later
- doesn't have the luxury of the 3D craze, people forget Alice in Wonderland came out 3 months after avatar a film that made 3D popular
- johnny depp was way more popular and in demand back then aswell

Well, Apocalypse seems to be marketed heavily right now. Hope this pays off.

I didn't even see the first Alice in wonderland movie but I remember a big deal being made out of the visuals which seems to be the same for the sequel but from what I hear the first movie didn't follow the story most people knew very well
