But I know this movie will still outgross XDoFP. The movie will have better legs than XDoFP.
Not going to happen. I can actually see this thing doing a BvS: opening up decent but dropping hard the second weekend. The trailers for it do nothing at all. Between this, ID2, and BvS, it all looks the same: destruction pown.

Not going to happen. The competition is too much. It is still early, though. The reception appears to be mixed, with it doing better than DOFP in some places, but not as much in others.

Agreed! They kind of overestimated their brand. They really added nothing new to the franchise.

no, I disagree with you. They did not overestimate their brand. They completely missed the point with this movie why this brand was successful in the past!

It is a little bit harsh to say it out loud, but I actually really wish this movie would fail commercially. Maybe then Fox will realize what made the X-Men series so loved. It is not CGI but the important socio-political subtext...!

Instead of all this fan service scale down the budget again and please realize why people actually watched this movies series in the past...

Of course critics hate this movie. Because it feels NOTHING like a Bryan Singer X-Men movie!

sorry, but I'm extremely disappointed that Singer could direct this mess! (is it maybe possible that there was a second director stepping in right after the Quicksilver scene? lol)

Didn't see it yet so I can't debate this but from what I've seen from the trailers, you are right. X-men have always been kind of political but not sure you could have gotten that from Apocalypse. I do plan on seeing it though, just not sure when.

I wrote down in the spoiler thread my opinion how the political subtext could have been easily integrated into this movie...don't want to spoil it for you.

But the (non-existent) motivations of the three horsemen would have been key in my eyes to make this movie easily work and enjoyable...

We shall see. Like i said, better promotion than XDoFP, despite of mixed reviews.

What do you mean by "X-men apocalypse as a film has good legs?" Sorry maybe I'm reading it wrong coz in the same sentence you contradict yourself after.

Good set of characters and bringing back some stand outs, biggest villain yet , coming off a well-received movie ect ect, it had good legs to attract the audience but Reviews may not help it though and competition may not help it either, so movie had good legs, box office may struggle.

its like i was very prepared to see this movie in 3D and on a bigger screen and then reviews started coming in and like everyone i started to lower my expectations thinking this film probably will have very little spectacle in it in typical bryan singer fashion so to avoid money worry i decided to see it in 2D instead and now all i see is people saying this film is so worth seeing in 3D as it looks great and now i kinda regret it ;p

I also was gonna see Fan4stick originally before i started reading the reviews and then i changed my mind and still haven't seen it to this day

At the heart of Apocalypse's worldview is survival of the fittest. Social Darwinism is one of the most important topics in the age of globalization and the robot revolution.

So critics and movie goers complained that past movies felt too much like singer movies and needed to be different, and then when he finally makes a movie that's different than the rest people complain that it's different than what he's done in the past?

Mm hmm....

Bullcrap. Singer is still focusing on specific characters other than the damn team itself. He didn't change anything except the amount of CGI in the movie.

X-men apocalypse as a film has good legs but for the box office though it's gonna struggle purely because reviews will have some effect, dunno how much effect but they have hurt films before and then of course the competition it's gonna be up against and another being the fact it's coming after BVS and CIVIL WAR

You cannot know the legs until after it comes out. The 2nd weekend is the big test.

X-Men may not even be the #1 movie the week it comes out. Then you have TMNT2 for some reason was made, and enough people like it, being released the week after.

People don't hate it because it feels nothing like a Bryan Singer movie yet at times it's just a convulted mess, Singer did with this film what many had been asking for years so that's not the issue. It's it being to much like his previous films is what the issue it. Over saturation of the same characters over and over again, not having such a great plot and all over the place storyline, the repeated cycle of having pointless muted henchmen with nothing to add to the story because they choose to focus on one character. Those are the issues, but at heart it still does feel like a Singer film. Point blank they just need to retire from Singer/Kinberg and use someone else with fresh ideas.

Speaking facts like that makes you a "hater" let some people tell it. :o I keep saying the same thing though. This movie will not touch DOFP due to competition and the franchise basically maxing out.

It does not make him a hater saying that people just have high hopes for the movie and want it to succeed only time will tell how well it indeed does.

How? Alice doesn't seem to have that much hype, and being a sequel 6 years later isn't likely to help. Civil War is performing like a typical blockbuster, and will be barely a factor. Angry Birds and Neighbors 2 did not open very strong.

Goodwill and marketing are what make the opening weekend. It will do fine this weekend.

How could you have mistaken that for being serious? I was clearly being sarcastic.

Like every X-Men film, it'll open "fine". Not amazing or even great, just fine. It'll come in just under whatever everyone starts projecting on Friday, and it'll have terrible legs for the next two months.

It's just sort of what you have to expect from this franchise.

The first Alice did have a higher weekend than DOFP and that was with a 3 day holiday.

It's possible.

I think in the end Fox and Disney playing chicken may hurt both movies.

Agreed. Angry Birds and Neighbors made only 38m and 21m. Is not impressive. It won't be a factor.

Alice seems so boring, I think maybe kids will see it, but I doubt, kids nowadays love Marvel movies. I'm sure they'll want to see x-men.

Oh Alice is still gonna make money, but it more likely won't reach what the first one did.

If I was Disney, I would have been announced a squeal for 2012 the minute the first one reached a billion.

I didn't say you were serious I was just commenting on it in general.

Ah ok. But yeah, it kinds of urks me when you get labels for speaking what is blatantly apparent. I don't think anyone would want the X-men to fail if they were treated with respect to the material. I think this time it may have been but I think the MCU has us all spoiled to a degree.

Alice is tracking less, but I would say it hurts X-Men in one obvious demo. Females, especially the younger set.

I mean, I'm sure more than a few were interested in Jackman's butt.
