Only reason the younger women in my family care about X-Men now. They are all for her leading the X-Men, and don't care at all for Cyclops.

You're a bad role model. :o

But the OT cast... :o

just a sidenote, but people here have to stop to understand big Hollywood stars like Jennifer Lawrence as 'artists': They are brands, they are companies! Why do you think she wins all these awards? Big franchise studios make sure to secure their sellable brands!!!

...just saying...

sorry, I have a Marxist week! ;-)

p.s. Let's better agree to disagree.

In DOFP, they didn't bodypaint her whole body, instead they had a bodysuit. It pretty much covered the naughty bits, with a hole for her stomach.
Really? I did not even notice and I am quite attracted to Miss Lawrence. So I have no problem starring at her when she is on screen. :funny:

People seriously have issues with something like this? I mean I understand the RDJ floating head complaints, but this literally makes no noticeable difference.

I guess its better than Rottentomato Critic Conspiracies. I guess. :loco:

I doubt young women care that mystique is leading the X-Men, just that lawrence is in the movie at all.

I can't see alot of unhappy young women not seeing this movie because she wasn't leading a team of mutants.

This is not the first time I have heard this. :funny:

Yeah, you clearly were not here for the DOFP filming stuff. Most of the complaints came up with a few behind the scene pics surfaces, where the suit/stocking was kind of obvious. And people still claim that it is noticible in the film, even though it really isn't.

Haha They don't read the comics so Cycs role in the OT is a tough debate to win. At least they are interested in the IP now. Lawrence is a big role model for them based solely on Hunger Games.

I'm sure they would still see it, but having their favorite actress and character in the franchise be the lead definitely grabs their interest. I don't see why that's difficult to understand.

$125M 4-day is way too high. Think closer to $80-90M, which is fine.

if it over 4 days only grosses 80 to 90 million then it is major disappointment.
i would say odds are slim it makes 200 million domesticly.

Then question remains what is future of the franchise.

I remember Randolph pointing out a noticeable seam in her confrontation with Trask in DoFP. I thought it was so  because it was so miniscule.

You could see a lot of problematic logics at work with how the original Mystique was constructed and how some fans treat Lawrence today. It isn't hard to imagine the people responsible for making Mystique naked in the first place wanted her to be sexy and cast Rebecca for her body. The movie absolves itself somewhat with that (one) really powerful line she had in X1 and the idea we get that her naked blue mutant body is a huge protest to human normality. The fact that her scales form clothing when she shape-shifts develops the logic of her design. Still you would never see a male character constructed with the same reasoning or a woman that didn't look like Rebecca. We know from Rebecca herself that the painting process was hell and had negative side effects. Rebecca had no star power so not much was changed about the process (this usually gets interpreted as "commitment" by fans).

Fast forward to First Class hiring Jennifer Lawrence, an up and coming actress who of course wouldn't turn down a big role in a big franchise, even if it means a difficult make-up process. Her allergic reaction to the paint combined with the star power Rebecca never had forced DOFP to build a skin tight suit that worked well (imo). Seeing a lot of "Raven" in the trailers for Apocalypse has caused a considerable amount of fans to label Lawrence as not committed and ruining the character. Lawrence doesn't have the modelling training that Rebecca had which probably made her more used to enduring "hell", but I'm sure even Rebecca would change the process if she could. Lawrence resisting a very invasive make-up process that causes an allergic reaction has been taken up by some fans as a point of criticism, which is utterly bizarre. Not a single male cast member has to endure a process that invasive, but when a woman speaks out against it she is demonized.

That's all I have to say on this annoying reoccurring topic.

People were *****ing about the bodysuit. Which tells me they wanted naked.

People are b****ing about the bodysuit because it's not of the best quality.

I don't think many people are under the illusion that JLaw was walking around naked before, without the bodysuit.

yes sure, I think you have a point.

But I am personally quite annoyed to discuss "sexism" in the context of powerful white millionaires like Jennifer Lawrence...Let's keep it real here for a moment, there is NOTHING non-privileged about this woman.

I spent a little time here. I may have just forgot this. Most of my time around these places is closer to release though, so it might have passed by the time I came around here.

She is getting millions (!) to get painted blue and say "mutant and proud"..buhuuu what a horrible horrible sexist world she must live in where a system is rewarding her for being an "artist"! :whatever:
Were you trying not to sound sexist here? Because you failed, miserably.
