Apocalypse X-Men: Apocalypse Box Office Prediction Thread - Part 2

I am surprised at all the negativity and proclamations of doom and gloom.

This is bad, but Fox also had a huge hit with Deadpool, The Wolverine 3 is right around the corner, and this is the first X-Men movie to underperform since 2011. Fox isn't about to reboot it all or just go crawling to Marvel like Sony did, because unlike Sony (or Fox in Fantastic Four's case), they built a pretty sturdy foundation that has survived for 16 years.

There will be consequences and fallout, but fans wringing their hands that this is the end of the franchise or that a reboot is imminent... it's very chicken little.

With that said, if Kinberg continues writing them, because I do suspect that Singer is done, the franchise might be in real trouble if the next one performs like this.
There really isn't doom and gloom except from a poster or two.

I think most see this film as a genuine creative shortcoming/misfire that led to an underwhelming final product as opposed to say some sort of deeper, fundamental issue with the studio and the creatives who might mangle the source material to high hell. Singer certainly doesn't have any disdain for the source material at this point in his career and most definitely approached this film with the intention of embracing the comic books. It just doesn't come together well, like Superman Returns. It's an issue regarding the individual approach of the filmmaker, which can be replaced by bringing in someone new.

We're in a much better spot than we were in a few films back. Obviously a creative retooling is needed but it doesn't seem like this train is slowing down anytime soon.

Again, I don't think that people are fed up with Singer's grounded X-Men approach. I think the problem was that the trailer made it look like a cheesy cgi mess of a colorful superhero movie!

you are describing something that many have wanted from X-Men for a while though, yeah many may stick up for these movies because they are fans but deep down they want the colorful outfits and cgi powers going everywhere in big action scenes

People were asking for a mess?

There's a way to do this stuff right.

and when they try to give more of what they want it backfires.

thats normal for this place.

I think the only box office thread I've seen with 99% positive posts was Deadpool's thread... after it came out. People were rooting for that movie like it was Rudy. Fox, DC, and Marvel fanboys came together like comic-con had a million man march.

Judging by the $400 mil the wolverine made with 3D... not as many as you might think

People like Wolverine in the context of the X-Men, that should go without saying. There's interest in the X-Men franchise regardless, but without Wolverine front and center it definitely takes a hit. You had people here acting like matching or beating DOFP was a given, just because it's a sequel.

maybe some vocal comic book nerds on the internet...and look what a horrible horrible movie came out of it because FOX listened wrongfully to this group!!

The general audience loved Singer's approach for 16 years. If it ain't broke don't fix it. "Days of Future Past" is such a beloved movie how can the filmmakers/studio be so dumb to accept a dumb, dull, pointless and heartless destruction porn script like the one we got?!

X-Men: Apocalypse is like the anti-Singer movie and of course it did not work: critical fail, commercial fail, and only 25 fans in this forum enjoyed it. WELL DONE, FOX!

even Marvel started to ground their movies again...isn't it ironic that "Captain America: Civil War" was so successful with a recycled X-Men plot??!?!

That colorful and epic action stuff is built into the X-Men. X-Men's source is huge in scope but the redundant narrative of the films is also being criticized and does not have the same impact.

X-Men has to evolve. That goes for storytelling as well as visuals and action.

So who are these people that didn't see the wolverine but as soon as they see he is front and center of a team movie they are booking their tickets?

To have wolverine In X_men film again is eather going to require a recast or a reboot.Jackman Is done after he wraps the wolverine solo film he is filming now.

You can look at DOFP's BO and see for yourself.

Wolverine has always been more appealing in team films than solo film.that is true in comics too.it's a moot point now

and we have evidance that DOFP wasn't hit just because lawrence was in it.

Yeah, Wolverine ain't always guaranteed to sell.

A poor film like Origins did alot of damage. First Class and The Wolverine helped bring things forward. Along with the good wom of DOFP that led to it's success.

Oh that is some grade A spin by a Singer fanboy. Impressive.

sorry, but at least I can tell why the X-Men adapations have been successful!

Taking away the critical acclaim and tone, of course this brand collapses! See for yourself what happened after "X-Men Origins: Wolverine"...

A hard reboot would solve continuity issues and offer a more faithful adaptation of comics. There could be more of a team emphasis which is what people want. With Deadline mulling the possibility, it seems like the probable outcome.

Write a poor film and that's how things collapse.

Days of Future Past was more of an event film than Apocalypse. Timetravel, joint casts, giant robots. Combine this with great reviews and you get a franchise high at the box office.

Apocalypse lacks the nostalgia of the original trilogy cast and has a pretty simple story that has been seen before. No Wolverine on the poster. Lots of new faces people don't care about yet.

Nah Singer just ****ed up by making an ugly ass looking film with a horrible version of Apocalypse. It's not the early 2000's anymore.
