Yes, but even casual fans are hip to things that don't work. For example, FOX has (mistakenly) put all of their hope in this First Class actor circle. They plastered JLaw all over the marketing as the leader of the X-Men. General audiences (mistakenly) already think that Wolveine is the X-Men's leader. So a visual change as simple as that can turn viewers off--and that's without even picking up a comic book. It's all about presentation.
FOX has chosen not to cast any A-listers with this new X-Men line-up. They're cheap (compare that to the blinding star ensembles Marvel is casting for every movie). Such decisions appear to be also driven by a lack of faith in this comic material. They let their previous A-list cast (Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Ian McKellan, Patrick Stewart, etc.) go. Clearly these changes are not cutting it for casual fans.
Us fanboys are over it for other reasons.
